Alcon. A four day convention run by Anime League around the beginning of September each year. After having a phenomenal time a year ago, I returned once more and this time I brought friends. So with three friends, four cosplays, my conbag and the conbook I ventured forth into four days of cosplaying, stalls, panels and parties.
The panels were just as inspiring as last year, with Parlé Productions and Bandursnatch Studios both making fantastic returns, similarly the youtube Abridgers were all there but due to the amount of new stuff available to see I couldn’t make all their panels this year. My other personal favourites of the panels included the informative Script Writing 101 and the incredibly touching Terry Prachett Tribute where everybody shared stories of how his stories had affected their life.
The parties as usual were rocking, filled with dancing, fun and the occasional freebie, like glow sticks and inflatable guitars, while the Masquerade was the epitome of elegance as people in an array of masks took to the dancefloor as a myriad of music played for them to dance to.
And now I have a slight confession. I have many great memories from this con, great panels, great company but I am a huge fan of Five Nights at Freddy’s, something that kind of found footing at last year’s Alcon, and to see how the fandom had grown in the year in between was so exciting. From a murmuring of it’s existence amongst con goers (and a visit to someone’s place to have a go or two) to a much louder presence. Keyrings, prints, posters, necklaces etc and of course the many FNAF cosplayers, including the Springtrap who came third in the Cosplay Masquerade. Obviously this was but a small part of a phenomenal weekend but still it makes me smile.
Overall the weekend was so much fun and already there is a slightly larger group of us making plans already for next year. Maybe we might see you there?
