fourth of july,
my body is wet and it’s my brothers birthday today.
every sound in the city is living, it is 7:53 in the morning and the birds are chirping.
the occasional engine goes by and disturbs the peace of the natural movement of the world.
when do the birds get to decide?
when do the birds get a chance to do what we’ve done to them?
the birds are chirping this morning on the fourth of july just like they did yesterday.
fireworks, screaming, chirping, reeling.
out through the window there is a never-ending hum of electricity coming from the machines nearby; faintly wafting around and into every home in the city that accepts it, it sings.
how sweet it is to be able to hear the song of the machines and the chirping birds on the calm morning of fourth of july through the window.
tonight when the blasts begin and the birds hide away wherever they find safest, the movement shifts organic to synthetic.
and unlike the chirping, the sounds we will hear will proudly blanket the sky to gratify our desire for satisfaction; our innate collective greed in a beautiful display of light.
