The whole "bring back bullying" statement pisses me off to no end.
Bullying is a legit traumatic experience many people go through. My bullying experiences felt like psychological torture, and it caused me to develop unhealthy thoughts about harming myself and others.
I remember one day in class I got trampled by a large group of kids, none of them apologized for it. For one entire school year this girl would spread gossip and shit talk me and even turned some of my friends against me. I remember being harassed by a large group of boys because of how I dressed at the time. In elementary I was beaten and harassed by classmates, and often baited into being the butt of a joke because I am on the spectrum. On my second day of school in my freshman year I was being threatened to get smacked by older boys. That same year I dated this boy who ended up cheating on me, and the girl he cheated with called me names like "whore" and tried bragging to me she was his new girlfriend. I got called a "stupid fucking ho" by one of his friends, too. And just recently, a coworker made a rude comment to me when it was my second day on the job.
I often witness others face the constant struggle of bullying, and it makes me sad to see how it can severely affect someone. It even makes me sad when I hear their "friends" gossip and talk smack about them when they don't even know it. I see other Autistic people become targets of cruel jokes because these assholes targeting them KNOW they are, or tend to be oblivious to that type of stuff and easily fall for it. I see many people who dress goth, emo or any alternative style not only get verbally harassed, but physically and sexually get harassed as well.
I often hear people say "everyone nowadays are too sensitive and need to grow thicker skin." While I agree with that statement to a certain extent, it is absolutely no excuse to act like a complete sociopath towards someone all because they live their lives differently. Showing basic empathy/sympathy is not a weakness, it shows you care, and many people need that in their lives. You could literally save someone's life by showing them a little kindness and compassion.
