I-SCREAM SANDWICHES // HOME

I normally couldn't care less about Halloween, never really got why it's even an event. But I do know one thing - it's a pretty good excuse for some I-SCREAM sandwiches. How's that for a bad pun?..

I've been wanting to test these for a while and yep, they're as messy as I expected but super tasty. Cookie dough ice-cream wedged between choc-chip and double choc cookies; satisfying and surpassing any sweet-tooth cravings you might've had. 

The only thing to be afraid of is that you might want more.

1AM CHOCOLATE TART // HOME

This recipe is (surprisingly) not named after my midnight feast eating habits but actually for the hour my Australian brother gave me the recipe. Via Viber. On his Saturday night out, bless. 

This indulgence is the Poor Man's version of a chocolate tart, made from simple beauties like Digestives and Galaxy milk chocolate. Screw the 70% dark stuff, Galaxy all the way. 

Add a little banana to lift the guilt and/or extra tang.

SKATE CAKE // NOTTINGHAM

Something a little different this time. My latest culinary creation may not have been the most complex of baking conquests but there's no denying the nerdy amount of colour co-ordination that went into designing it. 

My clever housemate Alex Fowkes gained another year so we decided to make him a birthday 'skate cake'; a homage to his skateboarding obsession and, of course, decorated in the designer's favourite colours. 

And those silver beads were placed using tweezers - how's that for dedication?! Big thanks to Catt Godon for her precision and ideas.

AUTUMN SCONES // HOME

I'm usually in denial about the end of summer, made even more painful this year knowing it's warmer back home than in England. So to ease myself into autumn and my lazy Sunday, I made these simple beauties. The recipe is from my British grandma so it's somewhat fitting that they're my first batch over here. Always best straight from the oven and eaten outside in the dwindling warmth.

Okay, so I'll preface this with admitting I'm not a very experienced baker, yet I do love it and have recently begun extending my skills beyond Betty Crocker. I come from a pretty foodie family, my brother Chris and cousin Sam were recently on My Kitchen Rules so it's been fun collaborating with them. This recipe, however, is borrowed from a close friend of mine, who started up Holistic Fit Food, initially as an Instagram account, which has now exploded into a flood of clean-eating-health-loving followers. Definitely keep your eye on this girl. These are her gluten-free banana and walnut muffins. So easy even I could make them and totally guilt free. Good times.

THE VILLA WEDDING // UMALAS, BALI

So the whole point of visiting Bali was to celebrate my beautiful mum's wedding - pretty good excuse to hang out with my family for the first time this year. An even better excuse to stay in a stupidly stunning villa for a week beforehand, which is where this lovely, laid-back gathering took place. 

I'd been weaned onto finger food delights (hello 4pm cheese!) from a young age; anything delicious and bite size suits me just fine so I didn't expect anything else from my mum's planning. No sit-down-stuffed-shirt-dinner, just handfuls of happiness. And that way, we got to try about a dozen desserts. Big win.

SEA CIRCUS // SEMINYAK, BALI

I was pleasantly surprised at the array of good Mexican food in Bali. And even more surprised at how much a solo margarita can make a walk on the beach far less lonely. I've got the cute girls at Sea Circus to thank for that. 

I think I've raved to every blogger, Instagramer, friend and stranger about this place; it's neon sign draws you and your summery mood inside and the awesome food keeps you there. It's multi-coloured goodness includes oozing quesedillas, fresh fish, lots of spice and frozen tequila concoctions. And the confidence from said tequila to make friends with this guy.. I swear he liked me. 

Oh, and you can even buy the waitress' dress! Ha.

POTATO HEAD // SEMINYAK, BALI

Potato Head had always been on the to-do list. I'd sat through too many reviews of post-Bali devotees not to go. It's right on the beach, swimming amongst the other high-end haunts. Potato Head is Sydney's addition to the coast, just like Ku De Ta is Melbourne's two cents.  After a considerably long queue, you can choose between three restaurants: Lilin, Tapping Shoes and the Potato Head Beach Club, my choice. The cocktail menu was longer than the food - I liked it already. Beautiful beef burger with hand cut chips; casual, easy-going, yet a little bit of flash. Sydney.
