Trigger Warnings: Death, Child Death, Arranged Marriage, War, Childbirth
"For most people it is," He pointed out, giving her forehead a light poke as he rolled his eyes lightly over. They weren't most people, but she should at least be aware that others probably viewed her as showing off. "Oh sure. Just give it a few years," He quipped, not bothering to hide the fact that those Council meetings were often something. When her fingertips traced the line of his jaw, he simply turned into her touch. His eyes settled on hers as the corner of his lips lifted slightly. "I can see that," His own voice was no more than a low murmur. "Hm," His grin only grew as she watched a grin find its way across her lips. "You start," He decided, having a feeling she'd seem less squeamish at the idea of asking him a question first. "Ask me anything. You've got twenty questions and I have twenty I'll ask in return. Deal?"
While she understood his point the vampire merely shrugged. In her mind neither of them were most people. A commonality they shared. Both having lived a life of immense monetary privilege since birth, though she wasn't sure if he knew as much about her. The Song's reputation in Lunar Cove preceded him, while her history remained a secret shrouded by time. There was more she could've said but saved it, as she was momentarily more interested in the way Seo-Joon's face turned into her palm. With gentle admiration Gia continued to touch him. The pad of her thumb grazing his cheek, as her smile deepened to match her date's. With wide grins and eyes locked they began a game Georgiana wasn't sure either of them could win; or lose. "Of all that I do not know about you, Seo-Joon.. What is most important to you that I know?"
Meena' clanked her glass lightly against Gia's before she brought it up to her lips to take a sip, all the while humming as she did. It was only at Gia's musings that Meena placed her own glass down as she passed a glance over toward her friend knowingly. "An Alpha in Celestial Hills," She corrected. "It's good for us, even if it might not feel like it, and even if he didn't do it for the Clan. It means times are changing," She whispered faintly under her breath. "And anyhow," She sat up slightly at the thought as she promised Gia. "Being Alpha, means that he's the most in control of all of the wolves, and on Full Moons, he'll be over in Echo Acres. There is nothing to worry about, dear. I promise. JC isn't your enemy. And yes, it does make me happy," She admitted, though she chose not to dwell on the way her cheeks flushed slightly at the thought. "As does donating the Manor. It feels like, well-" She let out a sigh of relief at the thought. "As though Teddy is out of our lives for good."
The urge to down the contents of her glass allowed for a longer sip but tenured manners as she sat so visibly in the public eye gave Georgiana restraint. "Alpha." She echoed with a nod. "A Lunar Cove power couple of a very different kind.." There was a time, in not so distant memory, that she'd scoff at the thought of interspecies entanglements. While Gia's mind had not changed in regards to the wolves, given her recent trauma, she had softened to the company of others beyond the clan. "Nothing to worry about.." She mused with doubt she could not withhold. Only enduring the worst fate she'd ever known, again. A horror so great her mind had yet to recover, as it remained tattered by torment too great to speak for fear of the shrieks that would follow. "For that," She spoke in earnest. "I am happy, hermana." Her hand briefly grazed the back of her friend's to convey her candor. During which Gia caught the blush on Meena's face. It brought a warmth to her chest she did not know how to articulate. "Ah, yes. Theodore." His name uttered like the annoyance Georgiana had always perceived him to be. "May the worms have made a good meal of him." A sentiment that actually made her smile while her eyes returned to the parade. Two names on the short list of persons Georgiana could stand on the float before them, and it momentarily showed in her gaze.
"Stalking you? You're fuckin' with me…" Though a sharp, hollow laugh echoed through the space, his voice dropped dangerously close to a growl at that accusation. "Do you know what stalkers are capable of doing?" His mind flashed to Elif and Damien, thoughts to what he had done had his irritation flare up overshadowing the worry upon hearing about the crash. He did not need to see her face to pinpoint the emotion, it lined every syllable, coated every letter of what she said. Layers of hate, dense and fiery, wrapped around his already frantic state of mind threatening to make it worse. "For god's sake, shut your trap," he snapped. "You hate me. You'll kill me. I've heard it before." Breath came out in a loud exhale trying to regain composure, but blame the heat, the humidity, the storm, the approaching full moon, tension did not curb and annoyance from that added to his fast diminishing mood.
"Now I'm sexist?" Features flickered with incredulity, "I have to shift. You realise tonight is full moon, yes? Tell me you didn't forget what happens." No. He knew the answer to that. She couldn't forget what werewolves were like. Monstrous in all ways. She faced the horrors, seen the effects, and well, he'd been told time and time again that it was all his fault, did he? How could he not believe it? Pain and hurt were ever present even if irritation masked that right now but as he looked to her intensity of anger lessened instinctively. Because above all there was concern. A fucking lot of it.
"I'd like to have a shirt when I turn back, am I allowed?" He let the dress fall by his feet not bothering to pick it up. "Fine. Keep your kit off." Mutterings continued though, "...calls herself an archaeologist..." Thoughts he didn't care to hold back spilled out in hushed tones under his breath, "...traversed through sewers but suddenly mud is a problem…" he huffed, "…prissy vampires…" Retreating into the shadows, Dhruv put more distance between them. He would not beg this time though, would not plead, determination set in to not let hard won control falter so easily in her presence. "Stay away, you hear me?"
Violence had not been innate. It was a beast born in blood. As a child, the vampire followed her brother's scholastic endeavors. Sought, shamelessly, the truth about the world. Chided for it by society as inappropriate, but pride would not steal her curiosity. It continued ceaselessly until running into the sharp end of a blade. Weapons and the brutality they caused ordinary men to muster of no interest to the book worm. No stomach for it, even in paper and ink. Yet, at some point that changed. Not after her first kill but no later than the dozenth. There was a rush to it. A power trip unlike any other. Drunk on the savagery she'd once shielded her eyes from.
It raged within her now, like a kettle over filled, only seconds from boiling forth. Consequences left without consideration, as anger blacked everything out. She could see it in her mind already. A hand through his chest, plunged to rip his heart out. Would the scientist find it interesting? She darkly mused. To watch his own heart beat? A singular step forward to enact such horrors frozen in place at the mention of the moon. Made of metal and precious stone, the watch on her wrist besmirched by mud and all but useless to her now. What was the hour? The vampire didn't pause to wonder but began to tear through the hay in a flurry, as she sought something she did not disclose.
While her hands remained busy as she flew through the barn in search of dry clothes, her mouth was not silent. If simply because he'd told her to be. "What else would you call this!?" She spoke coldly, every syllable with condescension. "Dr. Mheta." The way she said his name was like something foul. "I am aware." While Gia had yet to find clothes to wear. she'd uncovered a few half drunk bottles of booze. Each of which she launched behind her with no regard for what or who she hit. "Difficult for you to fathom, hmm? That I'd be experienced or well educated? I can see why you adore Darwin so much! Two pompous bastards in a pod! If only your contributions to society could be considered great, but all that arrogance is for not!" When she finally found a garment she pulled it on with haste. A shirt that belonged to someone more than a foot taller but that served its purpose well. "Less offensive for you!? No matter! I am leaving, for I would rather be struck by lightening or falling limb than spend another second with you!"
Georgiana fled the barn as fast as she could only to be stopped just outside its doors by the howling of wolves in the distance.
"I'm pretty sure you'd have given half the town a heart attack if you did, but could have been funny," He quipped, tilting his head over at her with a lazy grin. "No," He answered after a prolonged beat. "Of all the things to know about you, Georgiana, I wouldn't say that's what interests me most, but I also try not to pry in other people's lives. Not if it's not something they willingly want to disclose. So is there anything you want to tell me or is this going to be a twenty question situation, because if so, I'll bite."
"You say that as though it is a lot of money.." A soft musing she uttered with a tinge of confusion. "Good." She quietly decided. "I trust the council will allocate the funds appropriately." In the beat between her question and his answer the vampire's fingertips grazed her date's cheek in wordless appreciation of his grin. A rare but favored expression that briefly appeared on her lips soon after. "I know." Quiet confirmation proceeded by honesty in a way that surprised even her. "That has been one of the attributes of your company I appreciate most." Yet, her apprehension to vulnerability had waned as trust formed. "I.. do not know where to begin.." Unencumbered candor given once again as she contemplated the suggestion.
"Twenty questions?" She sounded a little unsure. The lure of this particular date making itself known to her as her eyes flickered over to her watery escape. Georgiana had chosen the boat for its offer of a quick get away. The urge to flee from Seo-Joon flared, like a frightened woodland creature, as she had on the couch during the snow storm, only to recede when her eyes moved from the blue depths to his brown. The vampire reminded in the molten hue of his gaze that she was safe. "Okay." She nodded to assure him she was sure. "You'll bite." The humorous irony in Seo-Joon's choice of words was not lost on her and allowed her grin to return. "Would you like to begin?"
"You haven't?" Nyra asked with a turn to Gia, "Oh, you are in for a treat. By which I mean, a very human retelling of a disaster that, yes, like you said, rather obvious would be sinkable." While movies weren't always what she turned to unwind, sometimes letting something play as she went about things wasn't a terrible way to pass the time. Sometimes she even paid attention if it was engaging. She had seen this one, a few times now, once for curiosity, the other times for the sheer ludicrousness of it all. "I don't know where I was but I do know Sirens that were in those waters at the time."
A head shake answered Nyra's question. The vampire didn't care much for television or the movies, but she was glad to distract herself from her current state of existence with the company of her few friends. "Remarkable." Her dry humor continued. "I await such... entertainment." An accurate description if she were to put it vaguely. The retelling of history for Hollywood's benefit had not ceased to annoy her. Historical inaccuracies that spread false information. It was one of a few reasons Georgiana believed immortals were the true keepers of time and entitled to the spoils of such. Hence her expansive collection of priceless artifacts. "It is difficult to recall time the more of it that passes, hm?" A blessing, for her, to forget parts of her past. Though it'd come shrieking back in recent months, like a haint in the night as it plagued her restless mind. "I certainly do not recall anyone dressing quite like that." Gia pointed out some of the costumes on screen.
A twenty-four hour rave sounded like a full day and night of distraction. Her mind still muddled following a Spring time attack, which made escapism her newest personality trait.
"Aaliyah!" The younger older vampire let herself into the back office of Eclipse. After an untold amount of time drinking and dancing she grew board of the crowd. The sea of faces becoming familiar, which lost Gia's interest as quickly as it came. Her biggest issue with these temporary fixes were their lack of longevity.
The vampire crash landed on a coach that felt too comfortable to belong in an office. "Do you sleep in here?" She had to ask. "Do you sleep?" Gia pointed to herself. "I do not, rather cannot?" A shrug dismissed the question. "I'm bored!" She pouted. "Come dance with me!"
The lightless night sky blanketed the town with a heaviness she could not articulate. Anticipation in every breathe the vampire drew. As if time was an orchestra and they'd played until the swell. The fear of what was to follow not divine intuition but anxiety. A monster afraid of the other monsters in the dark. Her hand gave the siren's beside her a squeeze. The release of pressure in tandem with the illuminating of the night. No longer dark but a sky full of fireflies.
Molten mahogany hues followed the light and glimmered the reflection of its incandescent hue. Her eyes growing brighter still as the county fair was lit up, too. Already she could smell the sugary delights. Her mind on funnel cake and the like, but she still asked to be polite. "Where should we start? Rides, food, or games?"
"50 billion dollars, hm?" His brow curved up as an amused smirk toyed at the corner of his lips from where they lounged at the front of the boat. "Who knew you were such a big fan of charity?" He couldn't help but tease, drawing out each syllable as he eyed her over top of the bottle of whiskey he had been milking.
"Hm?" Eyes on the water, it took a moment for the vampire to respond. Her mind at ease, as the same bubble of peace they'd made in his bedroom engulfed the sail boat. "Should I have bid more?" The value of currency was lost to her. A measure Georgiana saw no need to keep up with beyond the employment of competent financial management. "I am." It eased, a mere modicum of, two centuries worth of guilt that remained buried deep within her chest. A truth, momentarily, visible in her eyes when they met his. “Seo-Joon... of all the things you do not know about me is that what interests you most?" The question posed with more meaning than she directly exposed, but the invitation to ask and know extended no less earnestly.
"I did," Meena hummed under her breath, as she leaned back against her own seat she had set up under an awning for the two of them as they watched the parade. Her eyes lit up in amusement as she caught sight of Aaliyah, dressed up in a getup that would likely have Teddy rolling in his grave. The sight couldn't help, but elicit an amused giggle from her lips as she plucked up a champagne flute and raised it towards her dear friend. "Cheers?"
"We have," She gave Gia a coy nod as her eyes fluttered back toward the parade floats. "I nearly made an offer without him, but he's decided to move to Celestial Hills, so we found a new place. We'll actually be living directly across the street from Aaliyah, believe it or not. Though, I will miss my room at yours," She assured her.
Meena's cheery demeanor was not enough to lift Gia's spirits, but she did her best to mitigate how much her own displeasure showed. A waste, perhaps, in the presences of she who always knew, but the effort remained. Even though she didn't understand it; Meena's happiness. An experience inspired by something the younger vampire had yet to know or consider herself capable of. "Cheers, hermana."
A hum of contemplation buzzed in her mouth before her head turned towards Meena. "A werewolf in Celestial Hills.." Musing aloud her living nightmare put her situation into perspective. She wouldn't be able to escape it. The reminder of what happened to her lurking on every street in town, and now in the home of her oldest friend. "I'll miss our sleepovers, but I am glad that this.. makes you happy."
The woods were no place to shift tonight he quickly realised as franticness took hold. Already on edge given the summer heat and humidity, annoyed would still be far too simple to describe his mood when warnings sounded of an oncoming storm. Sparing no glance nor uttering a word to his colleagues, Dhruv took off. There was time still, yes, but with head fuming and weather really pushing limits of patience, to seek shelter was of utmost importance — not just away from the hurricane but to shift when the time came.
Dipping into a barn as rain petled down, Dhruv grew still trying to assess if any occupants were present, but no noises indicating life, some tension was released with a slow exhale and a little more by taking a couple of sips from the hip flask he had snatched off a colleague before separating himself from the group. He knew he shouldn't drink but tonight like every other night was an exception. Settling down on a haybale, despite the dusty and damp nature of this place, it was better than nothing.
Growing too warm due to the liquor adding to his naturally high body heat, and thinking ahead, Dhruv had just taken off his shirt when he sensed another presence, another scent that different greatly from what he was growing accustomed to, one that — he turned sharply towards the entrance just as lightning struck somewhere in the distance, illuminating the place and the figure in a bright glow.
Of all the barns in these woods, she had to walk in here.
Body tensed at the sight of her. He shouldn't care anymore but a multitude of emotions swirled within before he was able to push them down. "What are you doing?" The question echoed over the storm. Emerging from the shadows bare shouldered, Dhruv leaned against a support beam as gaze locked with hers for a moment before it shifted to her shoes that lay discarded. Then slowly but surely, with no other direction to go, his eyes travelled up her frame taking in the way her clothes seemed to cl— senses caught him and eyes snapped up to meet hers in a flash. "Keep them on."
No sooner had the vampire freed herself of her mud soaked dress did a voice come forth from the dark. The sound of his movements lost to the raging storm outside, though her voice boomed loud and with clarity. "What the fuck!" Hands drug, heavy down her face is exasperation before she theatrically threw them into the air. "Are you stalking me?" An accusation that actually caused Gia to laugh. The sound distorted by something else; disgust. "First the crypt and now — what? You saw me wrap my car around a tree and followed me in here!? I'm never going to forgive you! I hat-" Her ranting and raging cut short at Dhruv's hypocrisy.
"Keep it on?" While it was dark, the room only lit by strikes of lightening, the expression on her face was unmistakable. If only because her annoyance was audible in her voice. "That's sexist!" She agitatedly gestured between them both in states of undress. "My clothes are covered in mud!" Georgiana threw the soiled garment at the wolf, as she demanded." What's your excuse!?"
Street racing was Gia's only interest when a rodeo was decreed as the town's next community event. The vampire's love of cars began with the first automobile. The collection in her private garage a reflection of such appreciation, coupled with the time and means to acquire a lofty catalogue. It was exhilarating to sit behind the wheel of a vehicle and make it fly. The severe weather announcement and sudden downpour of rain not enough to stop her, until she hydroplaned off the road. In the madness of her uncontrollable spinning through a flooding field, Georgiana began to laugh. Her hands off the wheel as she enjoyed the ride until her car collided with a tree and stopped.
Unharmed, the vampire climbed from her wrecked McLaren and into the storm. After a short attempt to walk home, that soaked her clothes in rain and mud, Gia ducked into a nearby barn to avoid electrocution as unrelenting lightening lit up the dark sky.
It wasn't the ideal place to wait out a storm, but she committed to making herself comfortable. Her shoes came off first, then began her attempt to peel off her clothes. Every layer stuck to her skin in a way that made the fabric difficult to remove even as she hopped and wiggled about.

at the parade.
A crowded street was one of the last places in Lunar Cove that Georgiana wanted to be. Yet, she pulled herself together without a hair out of place. Polished on the outside to distract from the uneasiness brewing beneath her dark eyes. The younger vampire a shadow to the older, as they settled into seats to watch the parade. Memories were harder for her as of late. Two centuries of time muddled by hallucinations. She could recall similar times to this. Lunar Cove was a town of traditions, and they both had lived there a very long time. Yet, there was doubt. A level uncertainty that she wasn't about to be dragged back into agony. Her thoughts remained her own now. Articulated to Meena once, in the privacy of Gia's home, after she'd scrubbed her skin clean only to realize she could not do the same for her mind.
After, it felt like a cruel thing for the both of them to recount. Especially as Georgiana watched her oldest friend experience what she perceived to be genuine happiness. Love was an elusive concept she didn't much believe in, but whatever Meena had found in JC was notably different. While she wasn't in the JC fan club, she didn't count the werewolf as utterly deplorable, which was more than Gia could've said about Teddy.
"You donated the manor." Gia swirled a drink in a hand, as she spoke. Her eyes flickering between Meena and the parade as she waited for the advisor's float. "Does that mean you're moving in with me?" An obvious jest she made with the faintest roll of her eyes. "Or you two settled on something?"
It wasn't that the vampire had become a recluse, but that she'd become even more selective about her company. The public annoyed her, or so she pretended. When in reality she still felt on edge after the last community gathering. "I've never seen this." Gia gestured to the screen as the title 'Titanic' came across. "I was living in England at the time, and I knew the boat would sink before it even set sail." She sighed. A sound of exasperation. "They called it sinkable. Damning, no?"
Song didn’t ask why she came. He didn’t need to. The tension in her shoulders, the way her gaze refused to linger for too long, spoke for her. He said nothing as he guided her back, his movements sure, unhurried. The backs of her legs hit the bed, and he caught her in that moment of surprise, letting gravity do the rest as her body melted into the mattress. His own followed, deliberate and controlled, lips trailing down the curve of her throat until the sound of her soft moans bled into the quiet hum in his head. She came to him to forget and he was more than willing to oblige.
It wasn’t until the storm passed, their clothes scattered, and her chest rising and falling gently against his, that the world returned. The silence was heavy, but not uncomfortable. It stretched between them like an unspoken truce. She lay across his chest. Their limbs were tangled, covered only by a thin sheet, the heat of her skin still clinging to his. But he wasn't about to be the first to break the silence and whatever peace they'd managed to find together, admits the dark. Instead, his dark gaze found hers, steady and unreadable. His thumb brushed along her bottom lip, before he finally reached up to tuck a stray strand of her hair back behind her ear. It was a simple gesture, in the quiet way he looked at her, he was giving her a moment where everything else didn't need to exist.
Silence had never soothed her. Instead, it had a tendency to allow her thoughts to become deafening. A damning fate after her mind remained scrambled following a wolf bite. Yet, in the bubble that was his bedroom the quiet felt like a warm blanket. Under which, the monstrous voices in her head were banished back under the bed. Gia assured of such in Seo-Joon's touch. A delicate gesture that promised nothing else had to exist. Which she didn't seek to change in a hurry. Instead, pulling herself in closer. Slow but with intention, as she tucked her head beneath his chin. Even once her eyes closed it remained obvious that Gia was awake, as her fingertips grazed his skin and twirled around tendrils of his hair. The both of them mute but seemingly content in an embrace in which the vampire began to feel something unexpected; safe.
There was a certain image he gave off - weirdly charming, off-kilter, flirty, unflappable. It was curated, a façade for the world to see. It was easier to maintain a mask when it adhered to a certain script. It was part of him, rolling with the punches and always taking some enjoyment form the insanity around him, but there were times when he didn't know how much of his façade was actually him, or just part of the illusion he showed the world. The Linden that spent time with Gia wasn't the Linden the world saw. The flirting and smiles was still there, but she got to see the obsession, the intellect, and the quiet that he kept hidden.
She had haunted people's thoughts, a wraith dancing between them - so he had come to see her, access to her library a bonus and an excuse. He didn't know if it would help, but knew that sometimes someone in the silence would make it feel less lonely. "Ἰλιάς." Linden replied in ancient Greek, looking up from the script in front of him. "I'm terrified to ask when this is from, because it might make me scared to keep reading it for fear of accidentally ruining it." He joked, knowing Gia knew well and good that he would do unspeakable things to protect this library if needed. "What are you working on Indie?"
There was something that annoyed Georgiana about overly flirtatious men. A measure of disgust for the audacity that they posed in their vain assertion she'd ever deem them worth her acknowledgment. Which was her opinion of the witch upon their first meeting. It'd come as an unexpected surprise that he possessed a brain. A brilliant man hidden beneath bravado. She brought it up sometimes. It was only fair, she thought, if he could be in her head then she could be in his. Though she said nothing of the kind now, with her mind on lockdown.
A quiet hum of understanding acknowledged her question's answer with vague interest. It was a piece in her current rotation of professional projects. Endeavors she'd all but abandoned since October when beginning a new pursuit. A race to find out who was behind the abductions and to what ends before they all met theirs by an untimely hand. "That one," She began honestly but with little energy. "is a replica I had bound at the turn of the century. The original cannot be touched by human hands anymore." Sealed away for its own preservation, not even she had seen it in decades. "At this moment? Nothing."
