Feeding off the vibes and energy of other people can be powerful and empowering. We were in a two-story reggae bar; lights were flashing and shining on the tipsy tourists dancing in front of the stage, the band was jamming to the most-demanded reggae songs of all time (queue Bob Marley), and around us people were laughing and singing along. Before we entered the bar, I was feeling a bit mentally exhausted – we were in another country surrounded by a totally different set of cultural values and ideas, so my body was feeling tired. Once I stepped foot in this place, everything changed. I saw all these people swaying and drinking to the music, people having a great time, and instantly I felt happier. Just seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces made me grateful that I hadn’t turned around and gone to bed.
It makes you think that it’s possible to change someone’s mood by simply smiling.
