The mission of the Georgia SPCA is to reduce the number of healthy animals euthanized in GA by implementing successful adoption and spay/neuter programs and by promoting responsible pet ownership.  A no-kill animal rescue organization, we offer regular low-cost vaccination clinics to the public as well as educational opportunities to enhance your relationship with your pet and to promote animal welfare in Georgia.

We've received hundreds of dollars in donations over the past few months. The program runs on an annual basis beginning Aug 1, so everyone needs to re-enroll their Kroger Plus card in order for the shelter to continue receiving donations for the next year. All you need to do is "Sign In" to your Kroger account, go to "My Account", scroll to the "Community Rewards" section, select "Re-enroll" and enter our org number: 40105. Shelter Volunteers - We're testing a new online signup system for volunteers who have already attended our Volunteer Orientation and are ready to help out at the shelter. Betty is the Dog of the Week Betty is an adorable 2-month-old Border Collie/mix. What a doll this little girl is! Her siblings, Fred, Wilma and Barney have already been adopted, and Betty is waiting for her chance at a loving home. Betty is sweet and friendly. Her foster mom says she loves to run and play with other dogs and chase her ball. Betty is going to be a fairly large dog, and she will need a home with room to run and get all the exercise she needs. Betty loves kids, and will make a wonderful family pet. Gidget is the Dog of the Week Gidget is an 8-month-old American Staffordshire terrier/mix. Gidget came to us from a local Animal Control and has spent about a month with a great foster family taking care of a few health problems. Gidget is a great dog. She is a happy girl, and her tail is always wagging! She gets along with all other animals and she loves people.. At her foster home she even spent time with several farm animals including a goat and a pig! She would love to have a home with at least one other dog because she loves to play, or with a family that would take her for play time at doggie day care. For those of you that have been following Wilson's story I thought you would like to know that he now has a forever home!!! A huge thank you to his trainers Troy Petee, Amy Eagan and Willy Petee that helped make this day possible. To Diana Lamphier and your family; Wilson will be forever grateful to you for never giving up on him. Join us at the Animal Emergency Center of North Fulton for a safety event to help educate the public about pet fire safety and disaster preparedness. Home fires are the most common disaster and also the most preventable. According to the United States Fire Administration, an estimated 500,000 pets are affected annually by fires. The best way to protect your pets from the effects of a fire is to include them in your family plan. This includes having their own disaster supply kit as well as arranging in advance for a safe place for them to stay if you need to leave your home. In the event of a disaster, if you must evacuate, the most important thing you can do to protect your pets is to evacuate them, too. The event is open to the public and will be held Sunday, July 13 from noon until 4 p.m. There is no charge to attend the event, so come on down and enjoy a nice day with your pets and family. Local American Red Cross, fire and police departments will talk with attendees about how to stay safe, and how to evacuate those you love during life threatening disasters. Other scheduled guests include the Georgia SPCA, q100, Home Depot Kids Workshop, Camp Bow Wow, Top Dogs, Heather Gaston Agency Insurance Professionals, as well as many other local pet friendly businesses. There will be activities for the entire family. Pets are welcome, but dogs must be kept on a leash. Pinky is the Dog of the Week Pinky is an almost-6-year-old short-hair Chihuahua/mix. Pinky is just a tiny little thing. She is very friendly and sweet and wants nothing more than to be a companion where she can get lots of attention and petting. If you are looking for a very small dog who is just as sweet as can be, Pinky may be just the one for you. Pinky is living with her foster and gets along nicely with other dogs and cats. Here's an update as promised on the two puppies with demodex mange we rescued a few days ago. Loving foster Katie is cuddling with Jessie; Jessie and Mowgli are snoozing in their warm, clean bed. So much of fostering is just providing the basics: good food, a clean, warm place to sleep, a little attention. These 12 abandoned kittens were discovered in a shopping cart at Publix. A kind soul brought them to the shelter today. All of these sweet little ones appear to have eye infections. This is little Red Ridinghood, a super sweet 12-week-old female orange tabby. She was found infested with 3 wolf worms, including one lodged in her throat, which inhibited her breathing. She underwent surgery recently to remove the parasites, and she was treated for an allergic reaction, swelling, dehydration, and possible infection. Her medical bills will total $500, but how could we turn her away? Wolf worms (or screw worms) infect all kinds of animals, including pet cats and dogs. Of the genus Cuterebra, wolf worms are the parasitic larvae of the Cuterebra fly. The wolf worm enters the body through the pet's mouth, nose or a wound in the skin. It then migrates through the pet's body and comes to rest at a location under the skin. When it nears maturity, the wolf worm may be up to an inch long and is easily visible with the naked eye.
