Oh — are you here to look at a property?
joel harvey:
“Seems like Georgia Finley is all but one of those things. Would you have said no now?” The question tumbled from his lips without the thought Geo could’ve been merely making a joke, but to him, he was completely serious. Joel never made the first move when it came to the blonde woman, not that the idea crossed his mind often. He entertained it, flirted as they fell into the routines, but stepping over the line became a waiting game. Besides, Georgia left town long before he could work up the courage to make the decision. “Emphasis on the terrifying part. I know ten men for every one woman to scare them shitless. Mass respect.” Joel narrowed his gaze in pretend contemplation, “Well, you did just admit you found me hot.” The man hummed and held out a hand to her, “I thought you’d never ask.”
Geo raised an eyebrow and took a moment to think his question over. Would she say no now? It was a question she hadn’t expected Joel to ask. They’ve always been friendly, after boarding school when she decided to stay in town they’d built a friendly relationship. She wasn’t a stranger to his attractiveness, but she never thought that he would consider her. Geo was the young Finley, the black sheep of the family. She was a kid when her siblings were adults and a kid to her nephews and niece when she should have been an adult. Her life was confusing and complicated, and she considered anyone who wanted to be in it longer than a short time crazy. So, Joel’s question threw her – the possibility and consequence of it. “I rarely say no to anything,” she answered honestly. She quirked a brow happily and shrugged, taking the hand he offered her. “Sorry for keeping you waiting,” she said fondly as she led him onto the dance floor.
joel harvey:
I’ve learned never to disagree with you. I can’t win.
Another girl earning my attention, sounds like a bite of jealousy wafting my way. You lot are just a duo of double trouble like a female version of Rocket Power. Now the dancing…it doesn’t take much for you, sweetheart, just have to ask nicely.
“I never thought I would hear that, I’m so glad you’ve finally come to terms with it.”
“Jealousy? I was young, dumb and drunk most of the time, I had plenty to entertain me – you wish. Though... you have always been a hot, Harvey. I can’t say I would have said no.” Georgia wagged her eyebrows at the older man and laughed. He was older than her, but back then he was one of the people her friends and her would talk about. Joel had the whole ‘grump’ and ‘hot’ thing going on, it was appealing a rule break like herself. “It’s a me thing, I bring out the most glorious and terrifying versions of women, I’m an enabler of their female power and rage.” She raised an eyebrow, surprised by his words. Geo liked spending time with Joel, he always made her laugh and relax during stressful times with her sister and family. She didn’t think she’d have such an affect to get him agreeable to dancing. “Well, will you pretty please dance with me, Joel?”
nathan finley:
Even if I hadn’t been dragged here by my suit and tie, I wouldn’t dare forsake my own Aunt’s guest of honor party. Who says I’ll be the stick in the mud, see, I’m even drinking Grey style which I shouldn’t.
Shouldn’t, schmouldn’t. You should be drinking to have fun and forget everything else, I don’t want to hear any business or Robin talk all night. Just let your gorgeous hair down and say hell to the rules of proper etiquette.
robin finley:
It could have stood with a better caterer. My steak was overdone.
Oh, I don’t mean anything by it, Geo, as if I’d ruin your big moment. Can’t say the same for others.
Maybe you pissed off the chef. Mine was beautiful.
As if... what do you mean by others? Are you expecting trouble or something?
joel harvey:
I’m not disagreeing, darling.
Damn, where the fuck was I? Aria is already on my tail about having fun and I’m on my second bottle of Jack, I got the booze part covered. Now, dancing? Needs a little more convincing.
You better not be.
Probably off with one of those girls who were always hanging off your arms. Well I’m on your tail too now, and no one ignores the force that is Aria and I. So, what’s it going to take to get you out there dancing?
grey finley:
Booze and dancing, how can this night get better?
My spawn.
She finally graces me with her presence.
aria magnuson:
If anyone argues with me or you about too much, then they don’t belong at the party. There is never a thing as too much when it comes to you, darling.
I’m starting to think we should just get married and put our wealth and beauty together. We’d be the new hottest thing, we could beat out Lo and Mads for sure.
nathan finley:
Disown me? Be still my heart, what have I ever done to you to warrant such a potential punishment? You wound.
Yeah disowned. If you didn’t show up to the party thrown in my honour I would forsake you. I have no room for a stick in the mud, Nate.
aria magnuson:
And I adore you, my love. I hope I’m doing you justice.
Of course you are, there is no doubt about that.
One might argue you doing me too much justice.
robin finley:
It’s quite the turn out, Georgia.
Who knew you were so well loved?
It is, Aria knows how to throw a party.
I don’t know why that would be such a surprise.
nathan finley:
Well, when there’s a party thrown for my favorite aunt, I can’t miss it.
I would have disowned you, otherwise.
joel harvey:
Who knew you were so well loved, Georgia? When you’re blackout drunk by the night’s end, you tend to forget what happens. As long as you have fun is what matters.
Is that really such a shock? I’m extremely loveable.
That’s how most of us ended at those parties. Well I want you to have fun too, don’t make me force you, Joel.
joel harvey:
So, this is all for you, huh? Impressive.
Of course it is.
It’s always been a tradition to have a big rager when Geo’s back in town. How could you forget? I think I saw you at one or two.
aria magnuson:
Welcome to the night of your life, darling, do enjoy yourself.
I adore you.
Hi — welcome!
joel harvey:
Joel lightly hummed his agreement with a small nod, imagining anyone else threatening him with pepper spray he would confiscate in a heartbeat or offer his substandard grumble of an unamused response. On paper, it wasn’t normal to want someone from the Finley line in his orbit, but Joel realized that line of thinking wasn’t fair on Georgia when she proved time and again how unlike her sister she truly was. She harbored free spirit, rebellion, unafraid to toe the straight-laced traditions. It isn’t any wonder where Grey inherited the bite from. “Convenience, sure. If you think I can’t handle wine and scotch, honey, you clearly haven’t been at my sister-in-law’s for Christmas. Every year, she makes the whole thing awkward for all of us.” Perhaps, he said too much or revealed more than intended, but Joel was somehow blindsided by Geo’s presence. He had a soft spot, just wanting to protect her from Robin’s chaos. In time, she would see the truth and understand, for now…no way. “You aren’t a wounded bird, that’s not what I’m implying.” The man sighed, playing the casual route, “I just don’t want you wrapped up in Robin’s craziness like your nephew is. She puts too much pressure on that boy. Look,” He fixed her with a shadow of a smile, “You’re more than capable of keeping yourself protected. I never doubted that for a second, Georgia.”
Georgia grinned, “Then the next round is on me, but I’ll let you choose the red we have.” She hadn’t expected this conversation to focus so much on her sister. There was something in Joel’s tone that was sending warning bells in Geo’s mind. He was definitely not telling her something, and it made her wonder if it had something to do with whatever Nate was going through. “I just don’t understand what I need protection from. There’s something you’re not telling me.”
