My friend said I should post this but PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong but the BMC and DEH fandoms are kinda ableist. Jeremy is neurodivergent coded but everyone pretends he isn’t because he doesn’t fit into the exact “UwU soft autistic bean!!” Stereotype however it is becoming a more popular headcanon. Christine having ADD (an outdated term) is one of the reasons she is infantilized to just being hyper and such. To add on, Michael, who is constantly seen as autistic or ADHD, is always infantilized in those fanfics (ESPECIALLY the ones where he is autistic or has some sort of disability). This is the same thing with Jared being neurodivergent coded like Jeremy but everyone ignoring it because he’s a sarcastic dumbass and not “UwU pure”, unlike Evan who while is yes neurodivergent coded, gets infantilized because of his anxiety. Even with Christine everyone’s headcanon of her being ace is somewhat constantly feels like rooted in BOTH racism and ableism because of infantalizing people with ADHD and the fact that it’s always the “weird Asian” kids that are headcanoned as on the asexual spectrum

in additon٫ after the events of the play where Jake ran around on two broken legs٫ there's no way his legs would've healed properly and no one talks about it? not to mention the clear ptsd symptoms Jeremy and Rich would experience after their experiences with the Squip. and the way Jeremy canonically regularly has breakdowns (i've assumed panic attacks but the shutdowns/meltdowns commonly experienced by autistic people are also a possibility) but people ignore it to talk about Michael's panic attack ٫ that very easily couldve been a one off event

(not to mention the ignoring Zoe’s PTSD symptoms to forgive Connor’s abusive actions bc “he has bipolar so he couldn’t help it”)

Not only does Jeremy canonically have breakdowns but we hear him start to hyperventilate during BMC Pt 1(in the Broadway version at least) and in the live show he legit starts going "oh god oh god, oh no" and I feel like that could play into the discussion some.

Okay the book is honestly the only time I ship Micha and Jeremy and canon, but Richemy would also work rlly well in the book. Also stan Nicole x Chloe in the book because then I can have Michael just listen to "Pink Triangle" while being upset that Nicole wasn't "the one"

Why is Michael the designated “player one” when they’re at Jeremy’s House like everyone knows the gamer rules are 1) Owner of the console gets dibs on the P1 controller and 2) If you play regularly in a co-op game then you swap out every few sessions or turns bc no one likes a controller hog

Michael being designated player one is most likely a metaphor for how Jeremy, even in his own life (represented by his home) feels out control and as if he’s merely secondary to the people around him. This is a prevalent theme in Jeremy’s character arc, and something he has to learn to grow from. In this Essay I Will-

So I feel like it’s important to bring up that Jeremy’s neurodivergent coding plays a lot into this. Neurodivergent individuals, for pretty much their entire lives, are constantly told that their feelings and emotions are somehow wrong, but they don’t know why or how. This, along with traits such as difficulty in decision making, often leads to (from my experience) a reliance on other people to help guide you.

Jeremy suffers from this. A lot. It’s difficult for him to feel confident in his own choices, whether as small as taking the bus vs walking, or major as asking Christine out. His own insecurity in himself is why he got the SQUIP in the first place. Which leads me to my next point: the few people actually present in Jeremy’s life, although with good intentions, still aided this issue.

Michael, I love him as a character, but when I mean both parties aided in the friendship’s destruction that includes Michael. He had difficulty understanding Jeremy’s issues (which my projecting self is totally attributing to low empathy that some neurodivergent people deal with). Jeremy had an inability to properly communicate his issues, and overall just was unable to be upfront about his gripes with Michael. Michael probably needed Jeremy to be blunt in order to understand. And so, we have a friendship in which neither party is truly emotionally fulfilled.

This loops back into the original post. Michael takes player one, even at Jeremy’s house, because he doesn’t understand Jeremy’s insecurities concerning always feeling secondary, and Jeremy, unable to properly express his feelings about the situation, just going with it. And as such, two player game is actually the perfect set up that, while portraying their strong friendship, never truly gives you the security that it’s actually succeeding. So, disguised as a happy song, Two Player Game is actually genius foreshadowing into the main conflict of Be More Chill.

I actually was okay with Christine in the book— like she’s not anywhere near as amazing as musical Christine but she’s,,, okay I guess?

I don't really... Like book Christine but it's mostly due to her weird ass rules about dating that make no sense. Like honey there's no rules to dating(so long as you're consenting and have a legal age gap ofc). I'm just glad that they made Musical Christine a more likable person, because book Christine reminds me so much of girls that I can't stand in school and just... Musical Christine is just so good I love her.

Fair. I'm very meh w BMC x DEH ships(other than Kleinman) because I have a love/hate relationship with DEH. But those are honestly cute ships, and Zoe definitely deserves someone who won't lie to her. I can see Christine singing while Zoe plays guitar and that's a really cute thought... Richemy is legit my favorite ship, that's mostly because I kin both Jeremy and Rich and shipping them is lowkey coping with my self loathing but also because I just love their dynamic a lot.

Honestly, after Stage Dorks, I think it's the next most likely Jeremy ship but I'm bias so... They're just... I love them. A lot. I'm actually writing a fic that is partially Richemy(its Richemy + Stage Dorks bc Third Act makes me w e a k).

I have a whole ass headcanon about how Madeline and Dustin are best friends and my favorite part is that they just get really high and at one point had a whole discussion about how hot Jake is. And Dustin is Christine's cousin in my hc so she comes downstairs during her time dating Jake to hear her cousin and his best friend talking about her boyfriend and it's really funny.

I love Madeline.

Ummm what’s your opinion on rich?

I fricking love Rich. So much. Like he is my second comfort character and kin so it makes sense but like... I just love him a lot and find him so interesting as a character. Gerard Canonico compared him to Algernon from "Flowers for Algernon" which is hella depressing because it's in reference to Rich spiralling down this depressing hill of frustration and self hate and trying to regain control of himself because he's not only being abused, but he's seeing firsthand how the Squip effects other people(i.e. Jeremy), and he probably doesn't like what he sees.

Also he was the first bisexual male representation I had when I came out to my friends as a trans guy. I had never really seen a bisexual male character in media, and that may be why I attached to Rich even more when I got comfortable with my identity.

He just brings me a lot of joy whilst being probably the most tragic character in the show. His character is so complex and interesting and emotional and I want more of him, honestly.

All in all? I love him. A lot.
