my college!richjer band au plot / summary :)
This AU takes place post-squip, two years into college for Jeremy (following his second year). Rich and Jeremy lost touch during high school; Rich dropped out and they had a a weird situationship, therefore, they lost touch because they had no reason to see each other anymore. He’s aware that Rich ends up moving to California to live with his brother, and in an unrelated manner, Michael ends up going to college there, so Jeremy has a very lonely first year of college, luckily being able to spend it in person with Christine and Brooke.
Jeremy dabbles a little in college life, dating, barista-ing, and photographing local rock shows for a bit of cash, and he eventually lands a very boring boyfriend named Ethan. He is so insanely boring. His jokes are mid, intimacy is mid, everything about Ethan is just mid. Michael, Brooke, and Christine often tell him that Ethan is mid and kinda doesn’t treat Jeremy with all the love he deserves—he’s not mean, just very inattentive—but Jeremy still dates him because of course he does. Because at least he has someone, and it’s not Bad, just not exciting.
Following his sophomore year of college, summer arrives and Jeremy decides to fly out to see Michael because duh. However, Michael has this super secret plan. He asks Jeremy if he would be interested in photographing his friend’s show while visiting, and Jeremy’s like, “yeah, what the hell, sure. I like taking photos.” …But really, Michael has been in touch with Rich, who’s totally not over Jeremy :) and he has an evil plan to hook them up! Because he knows how Jeremy really feels about Rich ;)
When Jeremy gets to the show and he sees the band come onstage, he immediately notices Rich on the drums. Immediately, he’s like “oohhh my god is that who I think it is. Holy fuck Michael I’m gonna kill you.” And he has a very fun and gay night watching the band play and taking a tad bit too many photos of the drummer. He’s honestly just very glad Rich is alive and well with a life outside of the bullshit everyone threw at him for years. After the show, Rich comes up to him, and he’s like “Heyy, sooo… how’s it been lol” and they start talking and catching up! It comes so naturally and makes Jeremy yearn and swoon so bad :’)
But oh no, he has this boring ass bf… Jeremy ends up making some very bad decisions over the summer he spends in California. :) But it’s okay because Rich could treat him better and is also more swole and talented and also funnier. And cuter and sexier. Thus begins their “touring photographer x drummer” fucked up situationship :-) if you have any other questions drop em in my Box!
btw: Rich is very aware of Michael’s plan to get him and Jeremy together from the beginning. He hasn’t stopped thinking about Jeremy since high school and he’s hard to get over. He very much supports the messiness.
