Victor Nunes Puts Everyday Objects To Use In A Creative Way

Victor Nunes bids goodbye to his art direction days and is now a 63-year-old artist with a huge fan base on social media. Nunes lives in Sao Paulo, Brazil and his light-hearted sketches with a resourceful twist is quickly turning him into a favorite among his fans.

His specialty lies in using everyday objects such as discarded waste, food and other household materials by integrating them into his illustrations. Nunes brings out the quirkiest side of his nature as he uses orange peels, pencil shavings, rubber bands, pen caps and a huge assortment of other knick-knacks to turn his doodles into creative works of art.

The simple beauty of Nunes’ art is that he sees a piece of scrap and imagines that it could play a bigger role in our surroundings. Victor Nunes relays a crystal clear message through his humorous illustrations - nobody needs to be a Leonardo Da Vinci in order to create art.

Photograph by @paulnicklen // Last summer I traveled with a group of friends to Svalbard, Norway in search of polar bears. We went to my favorite spot where I have always been able to find bears roaming around on sea ice throughout the summer. On this occasion, however, we didn’t find any sea ice and we never found any bears alive. We did find two dead bears in this location and other groups found more dead bears. These bears were so skinny, they appeared to have died of starvation, as in the absence of sea ice, they were not able to hunt seals. In all of my years of growing up in the Arctic and later, working as a biologist, I had never found a dead polar bear. It is now becoming much more common. Definitive list of whales, ranked.

Right Whale: It has an upside-down head — a bold move that pays off.

Sperm Whale: Has a silly name but really excels in all areas of being a whale: staying underwater, fighting squid, spraying sonar around the sea, looking like an ocean bus. Having teeth rather than baleen means not having to eat krill.

Narwhal: Sea unicorn that has ocean sword fights. Slightly less cool when you realize its horn is actually a big tooth, making it the whale version of this.

Orca: Doesn’t look anything like the other whales and hangs out around the Pacific Northwest, so it’s basically the hipster whale. Eats real food like seals rather than krill. Was in Free Willy, but, then again, was in Free Willy. Kind of an asshole, but you can’t argue with success. Secret shame: actually a dolphin.

Humpback Whale: Basic canonical whale. Has good press. Bit too mainstream, really.

Beluga Whale: Ongoing experiment in whether white privilege applies to cetaceans.

Blue Whale: Coasting on its size; must try harder.

Gray Whale: Blue whale that’s smaller and more boring.

Minke Whale: Kinda puny for a whale.

Fin Whale: Second biggest animal in the world, i.e. the first loser. Described by Roy Chapman Andrews as the “greyhound of the sea,” and we all know what Captain Hank Murphy of Sealab said about greyhounds. (”Too pointy.”)

Beaked whale: You are not a bird, please reconsider your choices.

Pilot Whale: Dolphin with ideas above its station.
