Keeping bees at the orchard would be perfect, with how many wildflowers and locust trees we have, apart from the fruit trees and plants in the garden. Unfortunately, I’m not going there often enough to be able to care for them. Eventually I’d love to get the experience of having a beehive. 

Luckily, there are enough people around me who keep bees, so I’m never out of honeycombs and honey.

Today I took extra care. I played the keys, the strings. I wiped the dirt and dust off all of the leaves of my plants. I played vinyl. I lit incense. I took a moment to breathe and sat down to read a book. I wiped the mirrors in my bathroom, took out the garbage. Drank a glass of cold water. Took another deep breath. Dried my sheets. Wrote a poem. Played and sang a song. Smiled because of that song. Sat in the sunlight on my porch for a minute. Forgave myself. Remembered I have a heart separate from my thoughts. Quieted my thoughts, listened to my heart. Took a deep breath and felt less heavy. Then I cleared my thoughts except for just one: now, now is alright.

When this is over, may we never again take for granted the simple things in life. Coffee with friends. A Friday night at a concert. A handshake with a stranger. Time spent with your grandparents. Hugging those you love most. Conversations with your neighbors. The morning commute. Going to school every week. Full shelves at the store. A typical Tuesday night. Life itself. These times can be challenging, but may we allow ourselves to slow down and reflect on what matters most. Once the dust settles and the light shines brighter, may we find that we have become the people we have wanted to be, who we always hoped we would be, and may we all be better for each other having gone through the unimaginable. In this crisis, hold on to love, hope, and empathy. That is my wish - that we are left with and experiencing more love and humanity during and after all this.
