alright, this is going to be long and nasty.
this season was the worst thing that has happened in this series. like seriously. they managed to squish a badass antagonist in 13 episodes, who in the end accepted defeat. this season really didn’t make any sense whatsoever. i’m going to be honest here- as much as allurance is cute and all, (to me) it had no connection. i’m not saying this because of klance and whatever, i’m genuinely saying that it had no connection.
allura likes lance right? lance likes allura. no no, lance loves allura with all of his might and heart. allura said that she does too! but that’s not my point. lance has been comforting and supporting allura since day one. he has been embracing her with compliments and even flirtatious comments. yet, allura -kind of- never reciprocated those actions. if i call back correctly, she never comforted him in the first place. she never tried to help him with his insecurities, and even if she wanted to- lance never went to her. it’s odd right? it was portrayed badly. it feels out of place, and i’ll talk about klance later on.
so that voltron and atlas fusion was terrible. it seemed fine at first, but then those wings came. i swear- they’re the size of a titanic ship. it was unnecessary to add those jumbo wings, when they kind of didn’t do anything. for crying out loud, the black lion’s wings are faster than that thing. it’s awful. as you can see, they rushed it. they rushed all of it, and i’m extremely disappointed.
they managed to rush the final season of a show that has been life-changing to countless of people. they managed to disappoint us and to make us not even care that it has ended. i’m pretty sure a lot of people could agree on this, so they couldn’t make this any worse. they killed allura. they gave lance altean marks for some odd reason. they made lance completely heartbroken and not being able to move on. ever. it’s just- chaotic.
oh yeah about those altean marks. i’m sorry but- what the actual fuck? i’m so, very confused over why lance has those. and i know for a fact it’s not because of the kiss, because they kissed in episode 1 and nothing happened. let’s say allura meant to give him those, (which is most likely true) but why? did she want him to remember her forever? as if he wouldn’t. it just doesn’t make any sense. why would he have them? is it something that happens to a human after they grow an ‘intimate’ relationship with an altean? who the hell knows.
overall, this season is a mess and boring.
honerva was probably one of the good/best things about this season. she just wanted a reality where she could live happily with her family- yeah, she did want to delete all realities if she couldn’t have what she wanted. but, this woman is sentimental. she is morose about her family being apart. honerva is witty and intelligent. she has waited lifetimes to just see her husband and son. personally, she was my favorite antagonist of the series; however, how she accepted defeat in the end was kind of bad, but i guess i’ll let it pass.
not to mention, baby lotor is one of the best things to ever happen to me.
to add on, Day Forty-Seven was an amazing episode, i loved it. also that episode where they were in the arcade was great, i love when they add stress-relieving episodes.
can we talk about the endings real quick? they’re all amazing. i’m proud of everyone, i’m so happy for shiro (can’t actually believe the leaks were real all this time). but lance? nah. to be honest, they did lance dirty this season. a lot of people are complaining how they made a hispanic character a farmer, as if he has nothing else to do. i personally don’t like how they made lance not move on from allura. but the whole farm thing, i can’t give my take on it.
oh boy, klance. it’s still thriving after those 3 scenes. probably the best 3 scenes in the season in my opinion. no matter how much they try to force allurance, it can’t beat klance. let’s name the differences. one- the two have so many scenes together where they comfort and encourage each other. this is all the way back in season 3. for example, this season keith talked to lance about all the good things he has. how he always has his back. how he knows who he is and what he has to offer. how he is an amazing paladin of the red lion. now if you don’t see how important that is to lance, i don’t know what to tell you. lance is very insecure about his position as a paladin of voltron. nobody has approached him about his insecurites except keith. he knows how it feels to be left out. so, lance just hearing what keith said means the world to him. he never liked to talk about his feelings; yet, he didn’t have to because keith saw his sorrow. that’s huge for lance and his character development.
the same happened with keith when he was chosen to become the black paladin. he was unsure and panicked, he didn’t know how to do deal with this huge of a responsibility. but, lance believed in him. he told him to accept the fact that he is the black paladin, which is not a bad thing. he’s telling him that he accepts black’s decision because it’s the right thing. lance knows what keith is capable of, he knows he can become the black paladin and be good at it. just like when keith saw lance with the red lion, he believed in him.
back to allurance, they have very little quality time together. it’s all lance and no allura. he is the one who comforts her and no vice versa. she never made time to talk to him like he did, which is kind of shallow. however, lance accepted allura as the pilot of the blue lion, which is lance’s precious girl. but, he knew allura could do this, he knew what she could do. but still, allura never compensated. do you see the difference? it’s a huge one. klance is far more powerful and passionate, while allurance is cute and loving; yet, it’s not reciprocated.
final thoughts on this season, it was terrible. everything was rushed. they needed like 2 seasons to beat honerva because she’s that intelligent and powerful. allurance was protrayed horribly, they didn’t give them enough time to grow a stronger bond, they could’ve given them that bond since season 6 or 5. the atlas is overrated. the fusion is terrible. honerva was great. each paladin had their moment (kind of, except lance). the original paladins budging in was also great, i liked that. but still doesn’t cover up the fact that this was a horrible season. it ended the show on a very bad note.
but, it has been amazing in general. this show changed my life to the better. i’m eternally grateful. it’s been an honor flying with you guys.
one last thing to my fellow klancers, kick.
