I really love the speech that the Thing gives to a traumatized Franklin Richards after the latter was trapped in literal Hell by Doctor Doom during the “Unthinkable” arc of Mark Waid’s Fantastic Four run! Learning that the world is a dark and dangerous place at a very young age, realizing that your safety is never 100% guaranteed, can be a severely overwhelming experience. But as Ben Grimm so eloquently states, “Safety ain’t all it’s cracked up to be. Not if ya live a life worth th’ risks. Sure I coulda wallowed over one lousy break instead o’ facin’ th’ world. An’ some days. I still do. I backslide. Yer gonna get lost in th’ bad. But so long as ya got folks around who love ya, ya gotta remember tomorrow c’n always be better.”
