the pastor & his wife were seen as saints for taking this baby in , left on their doorstep a few weeks into november ; countless attempts were made to appeal to the infants mother but no - one came forward . instead , the pastor & his wife decided to raise the child ; sawyer's home became a former church with graveyard still attached . the first time he got in trouble for speaking to his imaginary friends , it was by his mother & he was warned to never do that around father . but these friends kept coming , some with ghastly , mangled faces it was easy to tell, but others so pristine sawyer might have mistaken them for someone anyone else could see . sawyer was six the first time his father punished the way he "played" , alone in the graveyard & talking to himself . ( that's the way of 𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝖉𝖊𝖛𝖎𝖑 , don't you know ? ) each time sawyer had to be punished for speaking to the ghosts , the severity grew . the last of the three times involving sawyer being held beneath lake water over & over again . the realization of each "punishment" being exorcisms didn't dawn upon sawyer until he moved out at seventeen . naturally kind & charming , with the help of any person buried nearby , sawyer found it easier than most adjusting to life alone ... he prefers to see the world in it's positives , knowing too many people that have died way before their time .
