Train Misconductor is a pixel art railroad switching puzzle video game under development by myself (Luna Rose) and @msasterisk.
In Train Misconductor, you operate South Lymer Railway's SLYM-11513, an Advanced Steam Locomotive on the alien planet Gymnome, to shunt train cars between siding tracks in increasingly convoluted rail yards, while minimizing your move count and time so as to hopefully keep your Engineer and Conductor-Brakegoo's spirits up.

Train Misconductor is a game based on model railway shunting puzzles like John Allen's Timesaver and Alan Wright's Inglenook Sidings. It has been under development since December 2024. What began as a simple prototype based on the Inglenook has evolved into a much bigger project that has pretty consistently exceeded our expectations. We're having a lot of fun developing it and our closed playtesters are having a lot of fun playing it.

Q: Who are the developers?
A: The development team is myself (whirligig-girl / Luna Rose) and my friend @msasterisk. I am the lead designer and the artist, MsAsterisk is the excellent programmer. In addition there is a closed playtesting group, a work in progress soundtrack being volunteered by SpockAndStep et al, and some additional scenery art assets being volunteered by @vivvy-of-the-lake.
Q: What engine is it?
A: an advanced steam engine utilizing compound expansion of steam to--oh you mean the game engine? Oh. Ok. We're making the game in Godot.
Q: When will Train Misconductor be released?
A: It depends on a whole lot of factors. We want to make sure it's good and ready before it comes out. Some fundamental features are still not yet implemented, and there is a lot more art left to do. It all depends upon how long a two person hobby indie dev team with no budget can go before getting burnt out. My cute little soundbyte is "if it comes out in 2025 or 2027, something will have gone wrong." But we just don't know.
Q: What platforms will Train Misconductor be available for?
A: PC for sure, likely also Mac & Linux.
Q: Where will Train Misconductor be released?
A: We intend to release on Steam and Itch.io.
Q: Is there a Steam page?
A: We're waiting until near the end of this development sprint to do so. at popular request, a steam page has been made, the link is at the top of the post.

A: Not yet; though there will be a short free demo before the game is released.

Q: What is an Advanced Steam Engine?
A: Historically, Gymnomi locomotives looked something like this: large articulated steam locomotives, garratts especially.
By the 2310s AD, planet Gymnome had largely phased out steam locomotives and switched to diesel-hydraulics.
In 2329 resulting from a regular shift in the planet's orbit as it encountered the coorbital giant planet Omen, a global oil crisis began, which led to steam engines being taken out of museums to run the railways again.
By the mid 2330s, brand new high efficiency steam locomotives with modern electronics were built. The SLYM-11513 is one of these new locomotives. These fictional engines are loosely based on real world concepts like the ACE 3000, LVM-800, and 5AT.
Q: Will there be a story?
A: There will be some character dialogue and narrative tied to the player's progression. More info to come later.

A: Although Train Misconductor is designed to resemble games that use prerendered sprites, we actually use 3D models rendered in real time with a pixel shader.

I know that on the internet transfemmes tend to get accused of “separatist ideology” the most for speaking about our issues, but I do think it’s hilarious (evil) how the more marginalized you are the harder it becomes to actually be separationist or isolationist because of the exact systemic discrimination that creates those desires.
Like ok, you’re transfemme. You have hella bad experiences with non-transfemmes doing transmisogyny to you so you end up interacting almost exclusively with other transfemmes.
But you’re also Black, and you hope that also being marginalized will help cut out the antiblackness and transmisogynoir from non-Black transfemmes, but it turns out they still gonna do that shit to you, so you retreat to just other Black transfemmes.
And then you get hit with long covid or literally any other disability, can’t work anymore because of it and become reliant on mutual aid to survive. Surely, you think, the double whammy of being Black and transfemme means they’ll understand ableism too. Maybe mask so you can be with them safely without getting even more disabled.
And then they don’t, so you try to find other disabled Black transfemmes, a sliver of a sliver of a sliver, but they’re all ALSO broke and isolated and surviving on mutual aid and luck and they tell you your options are to accept everything being done to you so that you have a chance of surviving via mutual aid and community resources, or simply give up.
So you go back to the larger community to have a chance of surviving, because the average lifespan for Black transfemmes is mid-30s and you’d like to beat the average at least, and you prepare to suffer again, to survive.
Last year, two of the best known/loved cis Black women who were disability advocates on Twitter died due to lack of mutual aid. One couldn’t raise funds for her chemo, the other couldn’t raise funds for a rideshare to the hospital the day she died and knew that an ambulance would ruin her financially.
I look at them, two well known and loved disabled Black women who put so much effort into helping their community only to die due to lack of help, and then I look at the other disabled Black trans folks I know surviving off of mutual aid and I wonder how much longer it’ll be until it’s them, because they damn sure don’t got the same amount of people that even know who they are.

Hunter Schafer had her passport gender marker changed back to M after years of having at as F, and she said the only document not changed was her birth certificate. Implies the agency responsible for passports is cross referencing with other documents and is not just denying new gender marker changes but will start forcibly reverting them to their original marker. God knows what else they have access to but I'm sure it's not pretty.
I need people to understand how serious it can get. And if you only start noticing now and ringing alarm bells, better late than never; but it's also a shame if it takes a white celebrity to sound off in order for people to take institutional transphobia and transmisogyny seriously. Even if this is a notable escalation, it displays a serious devaluing of the violence faced by any invisible transfem, seeing as we are typically the canary in the coal mine. Marginalized transfems of all stripes, nonwhite, disabled, poor, have been begging for people to pay attention and take stuff seriously and it's a disgrace that it's just been met with, at best, performative gestures. We need to keep us safe, and we need to do better to do that.
Ok so, I just remembered how people in the comments of a tiktok video were being assholes, and I want to rant now :3
The video showed two wheelchair users at a train(?), who had just arrived to their stop to find nobody was there with a ramp so they could leave the train. One of them blocked the door so it wouldn't close, and this lasted for 15 minutes. The train was stopped for said 15 minutes. There was a button by the door, that said that it'd contact the driver when pressed. It didn't. People offered to go find the driver, and they came back with the news that there were no people in the platform to put the ramp. In the end, passengers had to go out, and place the ramp themselves, before the train could carry on. The wheelchair users had warned they were coming, and asked to have the ramp put there so they could get down. The platform turned out to have workers, they all just ran away because they'd never encountered the situation in which they needed to do this simple task.
Because of the workers' negligence, the train was forced to stop for 15 minutes.
Everyone's comments?
"Why did they block the doors and stop the train? So selfish"
Selfish were workers who refused to do their job.
"What if someone had needed to get to their stop urgently? They shouldn't have stopped the train"
It wasn't the disabled people's fault, it was the workers who were negligent.
"Why didn't they just wheel themselves down those steps?"
They shouldn't have to risk their (expensive) chairs just because people didn't do what they were paid to do.
"If I had been in that train I would've been pissed, how dare you stop it"
And you probably wouldn't have even thought about fixing the problem yourself, would you?

Ok I'll leave you stranded in a train with everyone who could help you get down outright refusing to. Let's see who's an entitled asshole now.
If someone fights for accessibility, as much as it might be a bother for you, you do not have the right to be mad at them. If someone fights for accessibility, it is exclusively the fault of a world catered exclusively for able-bodied people.
So next time you think, "hey the consequences of these disabled people fighting for their rights bother me", instead of blaming them for this, help them solve the issue. This way, next time they will not have to fight at all.
Able bodied people, go out and fight for a fucking accessible world if you're not an asshole.

we have twice been in this situation of missing our train stop because they forgot to let us off with the ramp and it's not just distressing, it reinforces the sense of helplessness you get when you lose your agency - and it means you're always worrying after that in case they forget again - luckily for us it never added more than an hour to our journey but ffs
