KB: So hey. Guess what. While messing around with some friends on Roblox recently, we accidentally stumbled into literally the coolest thing we’ve ever seen before. A large scale Paper Mario RP world with exceptional attention to detail and quality. And I wanted to tell you guys about it because it’s really cool and figured you all might be interested.

The character select room is so massive, I couldn’t get even half of them on screen for a cap.

They have virtually every character that’s ever appeared in a PM game, a lot with alternate color schemes and outfits to pick from! They even have some characters from the general games as well!

The landscape is massive, and it took me hours to actually fully explore everything they have to offer. It looks amazing and it feels like you’re actually walking around in a PM game!

Like, I can’t stress this enough, I’m sure a lot of you hear “Roblox” and sorta roll your eyes and think of 10 year olds playing with shitty virtual off-brand legos. But the stuff Roblox is actually capable of is surprisingly in depth, and I wouldn’t be sharing this if I didn’t genuinely think it was the absolute tightest shit ever.

ANYWAY. SO. I know how much you guys love Mario and RPing. So I just figured this might be something you might wanna check out. If you’re ever up for it, I could set up a private server for a handful of us and we could have some fun together! Alternatively, it’s fun to just jump into the world full of people already and get thrown into the chaos.

Have either of the mods ever considered running ask blogs for other characters? If so, who? (Note: Not limited to other Mario Fandom characters)

KB: If we’re talkin mario specific i would be either Flavio, FLUDD, E Gadd, or possibly maybe Toadsworth or Kamek

Non mario specific, there are only 4 things i have actively considered making ask blogs for: Dr. N. Brio from the Crash Bandicoot franchise, who I did run a blog for a while back but shut down due to Reasons. If sparks start flying in the fandom again after the remasters come out, I’m def gonna revive this one.

Slappy and Jimmy O’James from the Goosebumps novels, but specifically my Slappy and Jimmy from my AU where Goosebumps got a saturday morning cartoon and everything is wacky and cartoony.

Atom Ant. Just you know, the lil guy from the old Hanna Barbera cartoon of the same name. He’s cute, I like him, I have put a lot of thought and consideration into him as a character and would probably enjoy running a blog for him.

OR. A blog with all of my gijinka Thomas and Friends characters. Just all of them. All of them one on blog, step right up and ask literally any train from this show a question and I’ll have a human version of them ready to answer. Primarily it would focus on the steam team, but literally everyone else would be there, I just want to draw a million train gijinkas.

All of these are really too obscure or not all that popular so none of them could really make for a good ask blog that more than 5 or so people care to look at. So I went with King Boo instead who is from a series with much broader appeal.

M: I would do one for Goombella, definitely, if I had the time. I love her so much she’s my favorite mario series character. Otherwise, I do have a blog for N. Gin from the crash bandicoot series also! But it’s sorta dead ATM. I too mostly just want to be obscure characters no one knows about haha. Like Gene from the playmobil series Super 4. Or Sweet Tooth from Moshi Monsters…

Do you have any plans for plot on GhastlyKingBoo?

KB: Naw.

I’m not really into that sorta thing. I had ideas for a little bit but trying to force them into the format of an ask blog just seemed like the worst idea. If something happens naturally or KB/Mario gets entangled in someone else’s plot then that’s possible but for the most part I’m just here to throw jokes at people.

BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT all the plot ideas i had are most likely still gonna happen. But instead they’ll be done as just stand alone comics, posted as is without prompting. People would be free to ask KB or Mario questions about the new information presented but it won’t add to it or move the story forward at all.

i just made my first nintendask blog and i was wanting to ask, do you know any tips that can help me out?

((OOC: Hmmm. Well the stuff you’re gonna get from me is pretty much the same stuff people have been saying every time THEY get asked this question, too, so I’m sorry since this all sounds so familiar. qvq

Do this blog for you. Literally the absolute number one thing I will keep telling people again and again and again is do not rely on a crowd. If you have a story, a character(s) that you love, then THAT’S where you should draw your inspiration from. Questions do help but they won’t always be plentiful. Also when you do post, tag everything. First five are the most important but the rest will also show up in the search.

Don’t feel bad about not getting asks immediately because it doesn’t always happen. People flock to familiarity. They KNOW Mario, they know KNOW Luigi, they KNOW Bowser or Peach or Rosalina. And even then you shouldn’t assume (for example, I’ve beaten one Paper Mario game so like I dunno who the paper partners are, tbh, I’ve learned through dash osmosis and even THEN it’s hard to keep up). You have to garner people’s interest in your interpretation or your OCs.

On that note, if you do have an OC (or even an obscure character), you have to prep because unfortunately, OCs are harder to garner attention with. I know that personally. This isn’t to discourage you! There’s plenty of AMAZING OCs that drift around tumblr! But you gotta fight that uphill battle! You also have to make sure that you create a hook. Make them as interesting to outsiders as they are to you! Because you made them and they’re amazing, you just have to let everyone ELSE know they’re amazing! There’s no formula there, unfortunately. ;-; (A bio especially helps people to get to know your OCs, though)

Be friendly! Interact with people! But!!! Do not feel discouraged if you don’t hit it off. I have contacts on Skype that are great nice amazing people! But then I only talk with them like once a month. But then on the other hand, there’s people (like p much three) that I’ve met through Nintendask that I literally talk to daily. If you don’t click with a person, that’s okay! You shake it off and talk with other people. uvu Don’t be discouraged!

Please, for the love of all that is mighty, have a home page button. It McFrickin’ sucks to have to delete a line in a URL and refresh to have to get back to the home page.

Legible fonts! Test your theme and make sure you can read the color and size! Your blog should be accessible! ovo)b Ask your friends to check if they can read it!

I, personally, will straight up leave a blog is I can’t find the “next page” button in 5-10 seconds of searching. I’m so picky with that, like, unless I’m dedicated, I peace out.

KB: I HOPE YOU DON’T MIND ME ADDIN TO THIS A LIL BIT

as someone who as been in the ask blog business for like damn near 5 years maybe more idk i’ve Lost Count, i know a thing or two about this here stuffs. This is a good post, covers all the basics, i just wanted to throw in some tips and suggestions on specifically how to get more attention/likes/reblogs.

People are more likely to appreciate full color art as opposed to black and white sketches. That isn’t to say you should ONLY EVER reply with only beautifully detailed full finished pieces or anything, but the amount of effort you put into your replies greatly pays off as people will appreciate the pretty picture over the unfinished sketch!

funny posts get way more attention than dramatic ones. Not to harsh or discourage anyone from being drama-centric, but a quick joke is a much more easily shared bit of content over context sensitive dramatic situations, ya know? Humor driven replies are a great way to build up your followers so that you can hit them all with the Emotional Turmoil Hammer once they’ve fallen into your comedy trap 3:P

if your blog is plot heavy, please please PLEASE put some type of page on your blog that neatly details/organizes said plot. People are less likely to follow you if they come into the game late and can’t make heads or tails of what’s going on. It’s a little discouraging, you know? A nice little page on your sidebar with a brief description, and even helpful links to related plot heavy posts, works wonders!

it goes without saying that a lot of ask blogs are very art driven, and the ones that get a lot of attention are the ones with artists with a bit more experience under their belt. BUT DO NOT LET THAT DISCOURAGE YOU. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH, DO NOT LET YOUR ARTISTIC SKILL DISCOURAGE YOU FROM MAKING AN ASK BLOG. The most popular post on my blog right now is a doodle that was drawn intentionally bad with 500+ notes. Why? Because it was Hilarious. Hammering point number 2 again, people respond VERY WELL to comedy. If you can tell some good jokes on your blog, people will come crawling to it for that delicious content. Doesn’t matter how well you draw, doesn’t matter if your character is the most minor of forgettable characters ever, doesn’t matter. If you can tell a good joke then you will most certainly gain a following.

dont be afraid to send yourself anons. fuck it. you got a good idea for a post? send yourself an anon. who cares, just do it. it’s your blog, you can do it. all you’re doing is setting up the joke to deliver the punchline. THERE IS NO SHAME IN SENDING YOUR OWN BLOG A QUESTION IF YOU’VE RUN DRY AND NEED TO OIL THE GEARS A LITTLE BIT. NO SHAME.

aaaaand now i’m actually gonna list my pet peeves too actually hoo hoo

Theme was already talked about BUT I ALSO WANNA STATE if you are an image/art heavy ask blog, and you regularly interact with other blogs in image based rp, PLEASE find a theme that doesn’t squish the images inserted in text posts. It looks so bad and it’s hard to parse when someone is looking through your old content on your blog!

if your blog has ocs you need to make reference pages for them and explain why they’re there please i’m so lost i have no idea what’s going on who are these people i dont know!! you gotta tell me!! i’m a potential follower, i need to know what i’m signing up for!! ocs are cool but if i follow something like Ask-Rawk-Hawk and all i see are pics of like, a random goomba everywhere, i’m gonna be really confused!! Inform me. Punch me in the face with this character bio, i gotta know!!

dont be a dick. don’t be that guy. it’s easy to get discouraged and envious if other blogs in the community are getting more attention than you, i know. but like. just be cool, man. we’re all friends here, we’re all in the same community, we all love the same things. This other ask blog of the same character shouldn’t be viewed as your rival, you should see them as your friend! combine your forces! CAUSE DOUBLE THE TROUBLE! embrace the fact that you both devoted an entire blog to this character you love so much AND THEN A FRIENDSHIP IS BORN.

where does the super mario sunshine king boo fit into your king boo canon (if at all)?

KB: i thought this post made it sorta obvious, but i guess it’s hard to tell where my jokes end and my actual headcanons begin whoops

Sunshine King Boo is just something Bowser Jr created with the magic paintbrush. Probably wanted a bad guy that would scare Mario so he was like “Hm!! What’s the scariest thing!!? I know!!!!!” and then drew his best depiction of King Boo

Sunshine King Boo (or Boss Boo) is canonly an entirely separate character from regular ol’ King Boo so. He literally matters very little to my King Boo’s canon. But those are my personal thoughts about where he came from, and it’s most likely my King Boo wasn’t even aware of that particular incident and has no knowledge of this other Boo.

Alternatively, he could just be a regular old Boo that likes gambling a whole lot. Maybe Boos don’t react well to heat so they’re all dazed and chill on Isle Delphino. THere’s lots of different explinations you could put forth.

I usually call that Boo specifically Boss Boo or Kingpin Boo

I was wondering if it would be okay to ask what your headcanons were for King Boo when he was alive? I already asked him on your main blog, so if you would rather answer there that is fine. I just wanted to also ask here just in case.

KB: the main blog has gotten several questions asking about this, actually! And I do plan on answering them on the main blog, although not with anything that I can’t also answer here!

King Boo was never alive. He was always a ghost. He never had a past life, he’s always been a Boo.

I’m of the headcanon that Boos aren’t the souls of the once living, rather they’re just their own species of ghosts. They’re paranormal entities that exist as their own thing, ghost-like and by all technicality still considered ghosts, but never “alive” in the mortal sense.

I was actually kind of surprised how unpopular of a headcanon that is, I had always assumed that was the more prevalent belief up until I started hanging around this community. Especially with the release of Luigi’s Mansion and other games that clearly depict Boos co-existing with actual dead people ghosts (Portrait Ghosts, those smaller ghosts, even that dead Toad on the train in Paper Mario 2). TBH it makes me feel a little alienated, like I can’t really connect or interact with other Boo characters in the community because our headcanons clash to much, ya know?

NOW. ON THE OTHER HAND. HOW KING BOO CAME INTO EXISTENCE IN THE MUSHROOM KINGDOM IS A WHOOOOOLE STORY. One that I probably won’t tell on the blog because it’s convoluted and irrelevant, and I like to keep the main blog relatively easily accessible to newcomers, ya know? But I’ll definitely get into gritty details about all my King Boo headcanons in this OOC blog eventually.

Yo be honest, I watched the film When I was six years old (Now I'm 16) and I loved, and im gonna love that movie for the rest of my life, even When a lot of people hate it Dat movie is my life <3 (Sorry if the english in this is bad, I'm Mexican)

KB: I watched it a lot when i was a kid too!!! I don’t know my exact age, probably somewhere around 8 or 10 years old. I would rent it every other week and watch it over and over again, it was my favorite movie. At the time I like, was aware that something about it wasn’t quite right, but I never questioned it. “Wait,,,, bowser isn’t a dinosaur.... oh well that’s fine.”

Still one of my favorite movies to be honest.

To be honest im glad you like the Live action Super Mario Bros Movie. It was beautifully made and with witty characters. And yes i had a crush on John Leguizamo who played Luigi and made him brave. I wish the movie didn't get hated on so much but hey what can you do? Also i like the fact they chose Daisy and not Peach.
