Support for Public Media
PBS and NPR have been important to me in my everyday life since I can remember. Public Media has been present in my upbringing, as I grew up watching Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood, Reading Rainbow, Zoom, Sesame Street, and a lot more. NPR was on the radio in the car and The PBS News Hour was on TV in the evenings. Me and my family have always trusted these platforms of public media more than any other and we still do.
Politicians want to control the narrative by severely restricting funding and ultimately eliminating access to PBS and NPR. These public media outlets have relied on public support and grants since their creation in order to remain free for the public. Acts that try to eliminate entire narratives and access to current news, information, and other forms of public media are just another way the current administration is trying to invade and dictate our lives. This isn't new historically, as regimes that seek power need to control the narrative to protect their relevance and dominance.
The next time you're watching TV or listening to the radio or a podcast, pay attention to the ads. The CEOs of their parent companies are the ones controlling the narratives and who our elected officials lobby to. They will always have more money than us and that's okay. We can do more with what we got. I trust Public Media because it's funded by the public and it answers the public. There's no incentive other than to give you what you asked for. It's not Hollywood, it's not Washington. It's just us.
Search PBS or follow the links below to find ways on how to support your right to Public Media.
