i just came across this article about the lesbian flag. it points out the person that originally conceived the lipstick lesbian flag that we use today (sans lipstick mark) was actually racist, biphobic and transphobic
in the past we already had issues with the flag for not being a good representation of the community as a whole, and that was just the colors, just the idea that it wasn’t made with the whole community in mind so this new information is even worse. the very person that created this flag is everything we’re not supposed to be. this needs to be addressed. this blows. i don’t want a person like this deciding how we define and represent our community wtf
Wtf seriously??? That fucking sucks ass
Please reblog
This article makes a pretty damn good case for a new flag that’s not even a LITTLE BIT even AESTHETICALLY related to the lesbian flag, but keeps with the “stripes of color” thing most people seem to prefer (since while I love the labrys flag, I know it’s contentious and I’ll admit I wish it’d been designed by an actual lesbian instead of a supportive gay man).
And the colors are inspired by a Sappho poem, y’all, i can’t even.
[Image is of a flag with four equally sized horizontal stripes, from top to bottom: purple, gold, green, and pink]
I have not had one word from her
Frankly I wish I were dead When she left, she wept a great deal; she said to me, “This parting must be endured, Sappho. I go unwillingly.”
I said, “Go, and be happy but remember (you know well) whom you leave shackled by love
“If you forget me, think of our gifts to Aphrodite and all the loveliness that we shared
“all the violet tiaras, braided rosebuds, dill and crocus twined around your young neck
“myrrh poured on your head and on soft mats girls with all that they most wished for beside them
“while no voices chanted choruses without ours, no woodlot bloomed in spring without song…”
—Sappho, translated by Mary Barnard
here’s the flag w/ the meanings!
Another thing I haven’t seen pointed out is that the new flag would be significantly easier to make as an actual flag. The colors are all distinct and don’t require a ton of different shades of the same color that ends up hard or impossible to find all the colors for. The same goes for any other products you might wanna make with pride flag colors.

<3 NEW LESBIAN PRIDE FLAG <3
Boosting
the creator of it re-ordered the colors to improve the harmony of the flag, this is the new(er) one!
Lesbians who follow me, what do you think?

You remember that post about the homestuck t-shirt design contest collaborating with hot topic? And how Hot Topic are the biggest art thieves? This is recent. As you can see above, I stumbled upon Hot Topic’s website and they are selling a very popular fan art put on a t-shirt, and did not ask permission from the original artist (rismo).
This shows Hot Topic still continues their art thievery. Hot Topic are still taking art from artists without their permission. This is disrespectful and appalling.
EXCEPT YOU DID GIVE THEM YOUR PERMISSION.
BY AGREEING TO TERMS AND CONDITIONS ON DEVIANT ART.
THEY SOLD IT TO A THIRD PARTY ROYALTY-FREE.
http://www.deviantart.com/submit/agree
woah oops deleting my deviantart account
*instantly puts logo on my best pictures*
6. Payment Unless otherwise agreed between Artist and deviantART in a writing from deviantART, the license granted to deviantART under this Agreement is royalty-free.
DeviantArt you literal piece of shit
Uh what
That’s not okay
yo okay this is REALLY FUCKING IMPORTANT and imma be deleting my DA very soon because of it.
are you fucking for real
Just a heads up for people hosting their designs on DA
Okay. I just read through the “agreement” that DA has implemented, and it is truly heinous. I will not be posting on DA anymore.
———
3. License To Use Artist Materials. As and when Artist Materials are uploaded to the DeviantArt Site(s), Artist grants to DeviantArt a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to do the following things during the Term:
a) to prepare and encode Artist Materials or any part of them for digital or analog transmission, manipulation and exhibition in any format and by any means now known or not yet known or invented; (DA can post them on their website and edit them in any way they see fit)
b) to display, copy, reproduce, exhibit, publicly perform, broadcast, rebroadcast, transmit, retransmit, distribute through any electronic means (including analog and digital) or other means, and electronically or otherwise publish any or all of the Artist Materials, including any part of them, and to include them in compilations for publication, by any and all means and media now known or not yet known or invented ; (They can publish your art in any media, use it to showcase their website or even promote certain groups without your knowledge. For all you know, your art could be promoting the KKK.)
c) to modify, adapt, change or otherwise alter the Artist Materials (e.g., change the size) and use the Artist Materials as described in Section 3(b); and
d) the right to sublicense to any other person or company any of the licensed rights in the Artist Materials, or any part of them, subject to the terms and conditions of this Agreement. (They can edit, change, or otherwise modify your artwork in any way they want, as well as sublicensing it to third parties, such as Hot Topic.)
e) Artist acknowledges that Artist will not have any right, title, or interest in any other materials with which Artist Materials may be combined or into which all or any portion of Artist Materials may be incorporated. (By posting on FA, you forfeit your right to dispute any third party profits or copyright infringements upon your art.)
f) During the Term, DeviantArt’s licenses under this Agreement include the right to use any part of the Artist Materials in the promotion, advertising or marketing of the DeviantART Sites. (DeviantArt can use your art to advertise anything they want.)
g) As used in this Agreement, the term “Artist Materials” means any content uploaded to the DeviantArt Site(s) which may include without limitation Artist’s name(s) (including professional names), trademarks, trade names, likenesses, photographs, biographical materials, audio-visual materials, artwork, liner notes, and other graphical, textual, video, film or audio materials and any and all “skins,” computer-generated images or other artwork or images that Artist submits to DeviantArt in any medium or format whatsoever. (ANYTHING you submit to DeviantArt belongs to DeviantArt now. Including your drawings, your photos, videos, your stock materials, your music/audio, your written stories, and your artist name.)
Yes. THEY CAN EVEN USE YOUR ACTUAL ARTIST NAME. THEY OWN IT NOW, IF YOU ARE PART OF DA.
Fuck DA.
Burn them to the ground
Pass it around
That’s why I deleted months ago. It’s a terrible website and I hate it
Passing on the PSA. I stopped using that site years ago. If you still use it, it’s not too late! Trash that shit.
@everybery You should water mark the shit out of your stuff dear! I’ve had my designs on shirts without permission quite a few times !
Yep. Deleted over 400 drawings and photos from DA over an year ago. I used the site for over 8 years not knowing these terms of service since they don’t actually show them to you when you make an account. Sure you can find them if you do some digging but they don’t shove it to your face. Also it doesn’t matter if your art has a watermark or whatever. Like it says above they have the right to edit and modify your pics so they can just remove your useless watermarks and signatures and then use your art freely and you can’t complain because you have agreed to all of this. There is no reason whatsoever to use Deviantart (maybe if you are a stockartist that gives their shit for free lol). Leave this piece of shit site before they use you like the arrogant asshats they are.
For anyone who still uses DA, please read this.
This is relevant now more then ever because I see alot of people debating going back to DA
Lolokaynevermind.
Ver important in the light of tumblr purge. Many of you wold like to move to the DA and here is why it isn’t a good idea.
Mainstream News Media Censorship at The Border
Here you have HLN, a mainstream news service at 9am on Wednesday Morning, Jan 2 2019, blatantly editing its live news footage to help and aid the Trump Administration.
30 seconds detailing reports of immigrant violence on NYE and Border Patrol statements on the issue. Let’s be clear, CBP statements are exactly the opposite of what people on the ground are reporting, detailing the CBP’s actions as “cruel and inhumane”, that the CBP started the violence on Tuesday morning, that they not only used tear gas but physical force on women and children at the border.
But moments after she starts detailing the left-wing response, pointing out how Trump has shut down legal immigration routes for Asylum Seekers months ago,
Today’s presidential proclamation shutting down asylum eligibility is illegal under international and US law.
This morning, the Trump administration, invoking emergency national-security measures, issued a 90-day shutdown to asylum eligibility for anyone crossing the border outside of an official port of entry.
Secondary Source from Amnesty International.
“The Trump administration is defying international law and orchestrating a crisis by deliberately turning asylum-seekers away from ports of entry, endangering families who see no choice but to take desperate measures in their search for protection. These dangerous policies must end immediately. The US must welcome people safely into the country while their asylum claims are reviewed.”
The Trump Administration is turning asylum seekers away both from unofficial points of entry (illegal under both U.S. and International Law) and from legal points of entry.
News coverage of that pure statement of fact is exactly unfolding exactly as seen above.
Criticize the administration and you’ll be cut-off mid-sentence and the rest of the crew will desperately try to cover for the fact that they just silenced someone saying something bad about the Trump Administration Policies.
@ slack’s emoji artist turn on your location i wanna talk
astrology is gay you heard it here first folks
oh, to be innocent and think this is just a pride flag
Millennial cousin: okay so if you had to sell your soul to the devil, what would you sell it for?
Me, a gen Z: idk some bottomless fries maybe
Cousin: Why would you damn yourself to hell for something that insignificant
Me: well, I’m already going to hell for being aggressively not straight might as well get some fries on the way
And that’s how I came out to my family as aro ace this thanksgiving
I think a big part of why gen z culture is like this is because we’re almost too aware of our own insignificance. We are bombarded each day with news depicting how the world is ending, history repeating itself, injustice everywhere, morality gone and no real way to save or solve anything. We grew up on dystopian books, apocalyptic worlds, rebellion, death and fallen empires and then we see it play out in reality. It’s depressing, it’s shoking, it’s infuriating, and most importantly - we can’t do anything about it.
Like, I recently watched Interstellar, and while my mother complained about not understanding the sub-plots, I was sitting there, trying to process the fact that the world is dying in real life. Perhaps not the same way, but it is. (With global warming, we’re halfway to the critical temperature. Perhaps, our children will know that conifers existed only from books and from stories. Think about that for a second.)
But we have no miracle “flying to another inhabitable planet” solution here. We aren’t even close. Even if we had, nobody would be using it because the world is ruled by the rich and ignorant, and losing money in saving people is the last thing people like that want.
So we, here, children who should be first and foremost caring about grades and first crushes and learning are instead stuck in this hellstate of helplessness.
And that makes us angry. Furious. Depressed. Exhausted.
All of that.
We are like this because of one simple fact: We don’t want to die in a world we couldn’t save.
In my English lecture today we were talking about one of Shakespeare’s Sonnets about how he wishes the beauty of some guy would last forever (of course, he refers to this guy as “old friend”) or whatever and I saw the girl in front of me write in her notes in the neatest cursive I had ever seen:
“old friend” - probs gay lover -> yEET
You know what, I’m sick and tired of this. I want OUR generation to be the ones to take down the corruption in this world. Little girls were given barbies and dolls and told to ‘sit still like a little princess’ while our brothers flew around in capes being told to be superheroes. However, as we grew older, we asked ‘why?’ Many of us were given answers of 'because I said so’. We grew up with Disney movies and Dystopian books, telling us to speak our minds and stand up for what we believe in. We grew up in the aftermath of 9/11, and we have been forced to pick up the pieces and push through while our parents mourned the losses of the students that died in school shootings. “You’re too young to understand,” they told us. You don’t say? You don’t FUCKING say? WE are the generation that has had to grow up far too fast. WE are the generation that was never truly innocent, because our little ears picked up on the sounds of screams and the words “mass murder” or “terrorist attack” or “hate crime” on the television. WE are the ones that have formed our opinions but are silenced, because no one that young knows what they’re talking about. Now, we have to fight for our own rights while previous generations turn a blind eye to the violence. I truly hope that we rebel, because we will be strong. We are a force to be reckoned with. We are fierce. We are pissed. We are GENERATION FUCKING Z. (And we’re all depressed and gay)
Edit: holy fucking shit look at all of these notes
Gen z mood: literally everyone you know is exhausted. We all wake up as early as you can or as late as you can, both are rough. Ask anyone how they are? “Tired” is what you’ll hear. Some people stay up late doing homework, socializing, watching TV, or working. Some pass out once they get home. They all end up stressed and over extended. Teachers know of this of course. They all say that they know that we are all strapped with homework already, but “you can handle having a bit more can’t you?” They know we can, but as what cost? We know that we can’t last forever. We know it isn’t sustainable, but what’s a little more work and a little less sleep?
Article: teens are more anxious, lonely, and depressed than ever
Me: that’s what I’m saying!!
Article: it’s those pesky iPhones!
Me: …
*later on*
Teacher in same article: I’ve never had students be diagnosed with mental health issues so much before
Me: I know! There’s so many bad things happening in the world that contributes to that as well, but also it was less common for students to be open with mental health issues and people believing their diagnosis. It’s great that kids are able to get help with that nowadays!
Teacher in article: it’s those pesky iPhones! Kids shouldn’t be allowed to use social media at all, as a matter of fact!
Me, who uses tumblr (a social media) to deal with my issues and feel less alone: … … .
Me: ,,what,,
Me: ,,¿how?? How was this ever a conclusion???
Me: ,,, conFUSED???
The Generations in a Horror Movie
Baby Boomers/Gen X: *screams. runs away, tries to hide, calls a priest, dies*
Millenials: *plans their escape and lives*
Gen Z: bitch take me
the reason kids my age are more likely to show an emotional response to typically happy things than they are to violence is because we’ve become desensitized to that sort of thing through constant exposure through media but are very rarely exposed to any sort of positive interaction irl siri send post
THIS IS WHAT WE’VE BEEN SAYING FOR YEARS
