'Today, I am just a butterfly sending you a sentence'. * 7min video. by Patrícia Almeida in collaboration with David-Alexandre Guéniot

On April 15, 2015, Josephine Witt, a 'free-lance' political activist, interrupts the E.C.B. (European Central Bank) press conference, throwing a shower of confetti and papers at its President, Mario Draghi. From the moment the activist moves from the front row until she is taken by the security only 23 seconds pass. However, photos of the event will circulate for the next 24 hours in newspapers and television reports all over the world. This video is a montage and a re-enactment of the existing photographs of this happening. It confronts the original time of the event with the photographic time - expanded - of that same event.

"For three years (2011-2013), we have collected press clippings. The ‘Arab Spring’ at its peak; the arrival of the Troika (IMF, ECB, EU) in Greece, Portugal and Ireland; the earthquake and nuclear disaster in Japan; and a bit everywhere in Europe and the USA, citizen movements against austerity policies in favour of the bailout of the financial system. Far from these world events, yet affected by them, a family, ours. This book is a facsimile of a photo album, a gift to our son and his friend, meant to be opened in 2030. It offers a journey across time, from an uncertain future to a past (our present) where our family pictures collide with those we get from newspapers. It’s a book to read, more than leaf through." "Entre Imagens" is a project by Pedro Macedo and Sérgio Mah. It consists of a documentary series on 13 creators whose work have been devoted to Photography. Having taken into account the broad and diverse nature of photographic culture, this series aims to address different aesthetic and social fields of image, from art to photojournalism, from portrait to the several trends used to document daily and territorial realities.

This episode concerns Patrícia Almeida, a photographer with a clear documentary tendency, who has been developing a work that explores, in a subjective and critical way, urban life spaces, customs and behaviours. This can be confirmed in many series of hers such as No Parking, Locations or Portobello. Several stages of her creative career are shown and analysed in this episode, and her working processes and methods as well.

The publisher GHOST appears in 2011 from the conjunction of practices and interests of Patricia Almeida (photographer) and David-Alexandre Guéniot (programmer of artistic events) to give effect to editorial projects and programmatic events. The name GHOST is the combination of the words 'Guest' and 'Host' as poles between which the roles of the “guest” and the “host” circulate and exchange. This combination works as programmatic trend that aims to establish a circularity of authorial relations between design, photography, literature, research and editing. As a publisher, GHOST publishes books that emphasize visual narratives and articulate a “politics of image”, i.e. critical approaches on the uses and conditions for receiving the image, be it documentary, archival, fictional or appropriated. It is also interested in publishing artistic contents obtained through the most diverse processes (research ateliers, exhibitions, rehearsals, performances, residencies, workshops, seminars and meetings).

Superamas is a French-Austrian performer collective which performances combine theatre and dance with elements from the media and entertainment, art and politics. They are based in France and Austria.

"'Over-painting' has become a very common practice for censoring anti-government slogans written on the street. A dull grey-card color of discontent has been dominant after the Gezi Park and Taqsim Square protests in 2013. Red-on-red is not a combination that is easy to find. Although many might think this picture comes from the Gezi resistance or maybe the present Kobane Riots, it is actually from 2009, probably after protests against IMF. This practice proves that a kind of hypocrite, fascistic, suppressive character is deeply rooted in the Turkish past. Long after Gezi protests, as I amend this text in the morning of 8th October 2014 - just after a hefty night of protests and riots - municipality workers of Istanbul are covering up the voice of the streets again. And 14 families are covering the bodies of their beloved ones. They are asking for help to their brothers and sisters in a world indifferent to the siege of a brave city, Kobane.*"

*Kobane is a Syrian city at the border of Turkey, mainly inhabited by Kurdish people. It is presently (October 2014) under the attacks of the army of the so-called ‘Islamic State’.

"Souvenir from Turkey" is part of the project "Souvenirs from Europe", a série of posters made by artists (photographers, designers, visual artists) who are presently living and working in Europe. They were invited to choose/create an “object of protest” (as there were “protest songs” in the 1970’s), ie a political souvenir of our times. The final result takes the shape of a portable exhibition (easily transportable in postal tubes) that is proposed to art spaces, galleries, theatres, bookshops in Europe.

Seeking comfort while playing video games

"Seeking comfort while playing video games" is a photozine for parents and children. It presents 12 true and invented positions of a child playing a video game as well as 10 screen captures created for the Vectrex console (1982-1984). On the wall, you can see a fragment of Bruno Munari’s poster.

“In 2012, I found a poster of Bruno Munari “Ricerca della comodità in una poltrona scomoda” [Seeking comfort in an uncomfortable chair]. In 14 images, a man tries several positions to sit in a chair while reading his newspaper. Since then it hangs on a wall, in the living room. Later on I heard that, in its original version, it was an article written in 1944 that targeted the Italian design establishment. In his text, Munari criticizes the inflation of new chairs invented by designers, when there was still so much work to be done to "accomplish" a single chair. In 2013, my son got a video game console as a gift from his grandfather and strange choreographic correspondences started to appear between Munari’s poster and the positions of that child absorbed in his games. Head down, legs up, somersaults, handstands, etc. A kind of gymnastic looking for invisible braces. Each position called for a probably impossible seat that had its matrix in the postures of a body living extraordinary adventures”. David-Alexandre Guéniot
