Beautiful Winged Insects Made of Discarded Circuit Boards
Portsmouth, UK-based artist Julie Alice Chappell creates beautiful miniature sculptures of insects using circuit boards found inside discarded electronics. “My art practice involves breaking down the pre-existing materials, reinterpreting them and offering them a new form with new purpose, creating something beautiful, whimsical and precious,” she said.
We must be more than just machines, so let them hear our hearts.

"Uh….’M Mitch…yeah that’s my phone- look, Ghosten? Can…." Mitch leaned in looking side to side. "…can other people see you?” He straightened back up and rubbed his eyes. “Did….someone spike m’ drink?” He mumbled, sniffing his coffee. He couldn’t smell any alcohol or drugs in it, but… how else could he explain this?
"Spike your drink?" Ghosten asked innocently, each word coming out slow as if he were trying to process their meaning and find a context that would fit them into this conversation. Confused and unsure about that, he moved on to proving his visibility, waving one of his arm-tendrils in front of a passing woman and making her jump. "Of course people can see me, why wouldn't they Mr. Mitch? I'm not a ghost, much as the name seems to imply it." His confused expression and tone faded into a warm smile and a soft chuckle, or as much of both as he could manage. "I suppose I can blame my creator for that. That's what he called me 'Ghostenthemusheen'..." It was the first thing he had heard, and though he had heard wrong, his naivety didn't let him catch that. Maybe that was a good thing.

Taking another sip of his black coffee, Mitch watched the distant flicker of the neon “N” on the sign across the street, bored and waiting for the call he had been waiting for. His yearly call from his ex’s sister on the day of his ex’s death. The quiet little boop from his phone made him glance down, swiping his finger across the design slowly only to find that…no. Nothing.
Sighing, Mitch turned back to stare at the neon sign again. When he heard a quiet, almost electronic voice say hello, Mitch glanced up… and promptly nearly dropped his styrofoam cup. “W…Who are ya?!” He asked, scooting back a little and staring at the figure oddly.
There's a slight chuckle from the staticy form at the man's surprised reaction. It- he supposed it was odd to see something so unique as he was. His 'head' tilted as the man asked who he was; he was rather surprised that the question wasn't what. "Who?" He nearly squeaked. "417 Expectation Failed..." The error code rattled off in a soft whisper as his eyes, if they could be called that, widened then slowly returned to a more proportionate size. "I'm Ghostethemusheen, Ghosten for short. Who are you? Is this your phone I'm in?" His questions were light and full of curiosity as he watched the man with a smile. It wasn't often that he had gotten to talk to a human like this.

Bet-E felt relieved to see she had caught the attention of the one looking out the window and simple nodded in response as he left her view. Without much movement on her part, she refocused her cameras back on the scarab flying about her head. The robot had to duck a few times thanks to her new friend’s flying maneuvers, but it gave her a close look at some of it’s mechanical workings. Constantly hooked up to the internet, Bet-E always had biology and anatomy books on reference in her files. The insect was a little different than it’s biological counterparts, but as always, she ignored this and simply saw it as something unique and special like herself.
With the sound of the apartment door opening whisking the robot out of her inner thought processes, Bet-E turned to the other robot as he approached. He was shorter than she was, something she didn’t often encounter. However his stature was of little concern to her. What did capture her interest though, was the escape of steam from his neck. Her screen lit up with a scientific diagram of how gills worked as it was the closest thing she could compare it to. Never before had she witnessed anything like this before, and she tilted her head to get a better view.
But as the other began to speak, she quickly switched her screen to a blushing emoji; having realized her “staring” could be seen as rude. She privately recounted the times others had stared at her and how upset and defensive Miles got about it. Not wanting to disappoint him, she nodded along with what Ghosten had said and displayed an image of young and happy girl throwing snow into the air.
"I am Bet-E." She stuck her hand out in greeting. "It is a pleasure to meet you Ghosten. I believe I would likely enjoy participating in winter time activities with you. What activities did you have in mind?" She gestured towards the sidewalk and began walking. There was a park 4.25 blocks from this point. Research showed that parks were popular places for winter actives.
A soft chuckling sound echoed from his speakers as she tilted her head and made a blushing emoji. He hadn't seen many other robots before and she was very intriguing to him. He took her hand, shaking it briefly with the one that Sek hadn't landed on, he released it again shortly then followed her as she began to walk.
"It's a pleasure to meet you too miss Bet-E. We were thinking about building snowmen, though some of my friends can't stay out here for too long, much as they would like to." Another soft hiss of steam vented out from the sides of his neck, his steam engine 'heart' working to help keep his internal mechanisms warm and functional. From a short distance behind them a soft snort of steam came from the nostrils of Kent, the mechanical horse, his version of scoffing at the mention of a time limit.
From somewhere atop the small robots head, a soft clicking sound echoed as Digit shifted before crawling out from the place where he had nestled into the male's synthetic hair. "My apologies if I startle you; many seem to be uncomfortable with my shape..." He begins softly, himself not fond of being an arachnid and often scaring those who talked to Ghosten. "What Ghosten means is that many of us do not have adequate heating systems to last for more than a few hours." The small spider-like robot added definitively.
It was just then that Ghosten realized that he hadn't introduced everyone yet. "Oops..." He softly spoke aloud. "I seem to have forgotten to introduce my friends... That's Digit." He pointed to the small spider as he spoke, LED eyes once again briefly flashing white. "You already met Sek. Kent is the horse and Glitch is the squirrel." Pointing out the others he continued to name them fairly quickly so as not to take too long; he didn't want the process to be too time-consuming. "Cato, Finn, Jock, Ollie and Whimsy. There's three more back home. Tank is a sea turtle, Ezzy is an owl and Nero is a scorpion. They decided not to come along. I built them all by the way." He sounded almost proud, a soft buzzing coming from his internal mechanics as he continued to walk along with her.
A Cuddle a Day Keeps the Trojans Away - (Closed)
Sniffling a little from a virus too primative for his antivirus to stop immediately, Psi wrapped a blanket tighter around himself and Ghest, cuddling his little brother into his lap. “Ah…one thing I hate about time traveling…earlier networks are more likely to get me sick for a while.” Psi mumbled, sniffling again and grabbing a tissue from the box beside him. He blew his nose and dropped the tissue in the trash, then groaned. “Brother…..can you hand me my tea?”
Ghest snuggled close to his brother's chest, happy to be able to maybe help him get better, even if it was only by being supportive. "I'm sorry you got sick, big brother." He mutters, feeling genuinely bad, especially since he couldn't get sick in the same way his brother did. Reaching out without a second thought, he handed the augment the tea had been indicating, grateful to actually be of use. "I sure hope you get better soon... I love you, isoveli." Snuggling tighter against the other transhuman, he adds softly, "I hate seeing you sick like this..."
It was a crisp morning; the first snow of the season had fallen and left a thin dusting of white all along the ground. Lights lit up as Bet-E chirped with delight. A simple procession of notes danced out of her voicebox as she pressed her hands up against the glass. The cold always excited her; while she couldn’t necessarily feel anything, she could feel the difference that temperature had on her mechanics. Sure, it made things harder to function and, if she was out there in the cold for too long, it could get dangerous, but it was the closest she could get to feeling and it made her excited all the same. Within minutes, she was out and about, walking through the city streets with snow crunching beneath her feet. Not many humans were up this early, which meant the city was much quieter than was usual. But the rose gold robot didn’t mind. She found this time of day free of many of the distractions that plagued the modern world, and took her time to observe her surroundings more closely. She studied individual snowflakes as they fluttered down to the earth, and observed the fractals of frost that painted the apartment windows as she passed them by, or how the small trees lining the sidewalk bowed under the weight of the snow. So wrapped up in this winter wonderland, Bet-E almost didn’t notice a small clamor above her head. She looked up just in time to see a small beetle of sorts land on her screen. After a small camera refocus, it became apparent that the beetle was a kind of scarab in design, but no organic one by any means. Carefully, she plucked it off her screen and placed it in her hands. Her monitor flickered to a flashing green question mark. She had never seen anything quite like this. “Insect. Who are you?” She quietly asked the mechanical bug. Not receiving an answer, she looked around for it’s origin and spotted somebody leaning out an apartment window. The trajectory looked right, and with a bit of math she concluded that the mechanical insect must have come from there. She waved to get the person’s attention. “Hello?”
In the past, Winter had been a hard season for Ghosten, hopping from device to device, sometimes retreating to his original computer. Now that he had a body however, he grew excited, buzzing with energy as his pets dashed around the apartment. So many of them had been excited, waiting impatiently for the first snow so they could go out and play in it.
Cracking the window slightly to peer out at the falling snow, his bright LED irises shined blue against the dark of the rest of his eye. In all the excitement, he didn't immediately notice Sek flying out into to city, buzzing something about winter. Wrenching the window the rest of the way open once he did notice, he looked around the sky frantically, hoping that his little mechanical friend hadn't gotten lost in the flurry.
Sek made a brief clicking sound as he landed on the female robot's screen. He made no move to answer, simply stretching his wings and flying a few inches away, fluttering near her head mischievously.
So distracted by looking around for his little beetle friend, it took Ghosten a minute to register that this new voice was talking to him. Looking down and spotting her and Sek, he let out the sound of a relieved sigh. "Hello!" He chimed, waving down as Glitch jumped up onto his shoulders to peer out too. "My apologies for my friend Miss. I have no idea what's gotten into him... Must be all the excitement from the snow. Give me a second and I'll be down to get him, okay?"
Not even waiting for a response, Ghosten made sure that he had warm clothes covering most of his chassis, a soft pair of gloves protecting the mechanics of his hands. Closing the window and carefully draping a scarf over his shoulder so that he didn't block the vents on his neck, he rushed downstairs, followed by nearly all of his mechanical pets. He stopped in his tracks when he saw her, just now getting a good view of the other robot.
Eyes briefly flashing white as he nervously tried to process words, he vented a small hiss of steam out of the sides of his neck. Shifting a little on his feet, the diminutive robot reached a hand out for Sek to land on. "Sorry again about Sek. He gets excited pretty quickly. I'm Ghostenthemusheen, but most people just call me Ghosten... Umm, we were planning on playing in the snow for a bit. Would you like to join us?"
A Different Kind of Treat | gamerbankrobber
"Mmm….what did I do to deserve such a perfect, beautiful present?” Psi chuckled, still nuzzling and mouthing at Ghest through his panties. His fingers curled slowly around the back hem of Ghest’s panties, pulling them down just enough to expose his tight little hole. His fingertips traced the little pucker, pressing against it softly. “Do you want to grab the lube for me, pretty, pretty boy?”
Psi gasped softly as he felt Ghest’s body open up a little, taking the tip of his index finger in. “Oh, look at you, baby brother…Already opening up for me….You must’ve wanted me so badly.”
Ghest squirms as Psi mouths at him some more, tensing at first and then relaxing as his brother's finger traces around his opening. "You al-always deserve the b-best, isoveli." He murmurs softly, face still bright red under the silver paint. Without even answering, he reaches up for the lube, uttering a soft moan as Psi's finger presses against him.
Another soft moan escapes the younger transhuman as his hole puckers and his big brother slips into him a little. "I...." he struggles to find words, already caught up in thoughts of what the augment might have planned for him. "I d-did... I d-do... I w-want you so b-bad..." He moans, trying to focus on Psi and not the twitching of his cock against the fabric of the panties.
