Yeah, I thought that take was such an interesting point. It's such a different kind of scrutiny! And aside/// Asa's mom was not comfortable with Mary ofc, but there is something to how easily she moves through these crowds, even the Apocalypse World hunters and the BMOL are large groups that probably come more easily to her because of the Campbell network. Her dad didn't like strange hunters, but I got the impression he had a swatch of trusted family-adjacent ones.

Honestly, Cas would make it weirder, more terrible, AND better, but Claire is no slouch. Remember that family dinner she ruined by torturing Alex and then smiling and Dean like, "This is fun." I think she would have no qualms, because she too doesn't care that much about being liked. Loved and chosen and respected by the people she admires (i.e. Sam and others)? Yes. Liked? No.

God, Cas making it worse, then watching the crowd morph from "this guy is a loser" to "omg please I want him to like me." That even happened to Benny the vampire tbh, started out insulting, then got intimidated, then he was SO happy when Cas agreed with him he looked like a pullstring teddy. It's a Cas Effect. I guess Crowley counts too, he tried to make himself so adorable to Cas in s12, it was hilarious.
Also this is all my favorite thing about Communal digging of a very shallow grave fic.
