"Pleeeease Y/N! You're closest to him!"
You don't know how you ended up like this. You were supposed to be eating lunch with River in the cafeteria. That is until you got cornered by some random girl you've never seen in your life asking you if you could help her get River to fall for her.
You look away "I-I don't know...I don't really want to-" she interrupts you "I'll pay you! I'll do whatever you want just please help me!"
If you're being honest, you don't want to help her because in some deep deep part of you, you hope River feels the same way you do about him. If you helped this girl get River to fall for her you'd be heartbroken.
"Please leave me alone..." you mumble out, but she doesn't seem to hear you. Instead, she grabs your shoulders, getting way closer to you than you're comfortable with.
"I know a loser like you wouldn't understand, but most guys at this school have a crush on me. And River is like, the most popular guy in our year, so it only makes sense for us to end up together."
"Loser?" you question.
She rolls her eyes "Yeah, a loser. Everyone knows it, so just bite the bullet and help me already."
You look away. You don't think this girl's going to stop bothering you until you agree to help her.
"Fine...you can sit with us at lunch, okay?"
She smiles and backs off of you "Perfect! Lead the way!"
You make your way to the cafeteria with her following behind you.
When you enter you spot River sitting at your usual table. He looks up when you approach.
"There you are! What took you so long?" He looks behind you "Who's that?"
"Oh, this is-" she interrupts you again "I'm Sophie!"
He looks at her and smiles politely "I think I recognize you. We have bio together, correct?"
Sophie smiles brightly "Yeah! We were partners during the frog dissection."
"Are you Y/N's new friend?" River asks
Sophie looks startled, almost as if she forgot you were there. She narrows her eyes at you, quick enough for River not to notice, before looking back at River. She nods.
River smiles, a real one this time "Then I'm glad Y/N has finally made a friend that's not me. Come, you can sit with us today."
You're about to take your usual spot next to River, but your forcefully shoved out of the way by Sophie, who sits down in your spot. River looks at her "Y/N usually sits there."
"I'm sure she doesn't mind, right Y/N?" She looks at you, the way she's smiling feels threatening.
"It's no big deal..." you mutter before you sit down across from him.
Eventually the school day comes to an end. You notice Sophie and River walking together as you exit the building. Curious, you decide to follow them. You peek around a corner and listen in on their conversation.
"Alright, what did you want to ask me. Make it quick because I'm supposed to walk Y/N home." River says.
Sophie steps closer to him "Well, I really like you River. I was wondering if you'd wanna be my boyfriend?" she smiles sweetly.
River looks at her in utter disgust "No." he clips out.
Sophie look surprised, she clearly wasn't expecting rejection.
"Why not?"
River narrows his eyes and leans closer. He's about to say something when he notices you peeking from around the corner. He composes himself.
"You weren't being very nice to Y/N earlier, and I also heard you and your friends like to spread around not so nice rumors about her."
Sophie's expression shifts from shocked to fear as she realizes she's been caught.
"It's not what you think! I didn't mean to say those things about her, my friends made me do it!" she tries to save herself.
River isn't convinced. He's still looking at her with disgust "I think we're done here."
He brushes past her, making his way to where you are. He takes your hand and leads you off of school grounds.
You want to ask how he knew Sophie and her friends were the ones spreading rumors about you, but you figure now isn't the best time considering how upset he looks.
You'll ask another day.

Visiting Your Boyfriend's House For The First Time

⚠︎ CW: Not proofread, fem!reader, fluff ⚠︎
Characters are from my series Books and Cigarettes!
You'd only been officially dating for a few days when Elias invited you over to his house.
Well, house wasn't really the correct term, mansion seemed like a better one.
You step onto the porch and ring the doorbell. All while wondering if you got the wrong house. You don't have to wonder for long though, not even ten seconds have passed before the door opens to reveal Elias's smirking face.
Before you started dating, all you wanted to do was knock those smiling teeth out of his face. Now all you want to do when you see that dumb smirk is kiss him.
"I was wondering how long you were going to keep me waiting." Elias says, pulling you out of your thoughts.
You narrow your eyes "What are you talking about? You said to be here at 4:30. It's 4:15."
Elias chuckles "I just thought my girlfriend would be so eager to see me that she'd be here a whole hour early."
You scoff "Keep telling yourself that." You look at past him for a moment, then back at him "So...are you gonna let me in or are we going to keep standing here?"
"Of course. I'm not the kind of man that leaves a pretty girl in the cold all by herself." Elias steps aside so you can enter.
You step inside and-wow, you don't think you've ever been inside a house this nice before.
The inside is absolutely pristine from top to bottom. Not even a speck of dust in sight. From the entryway you can spot a gigantic fireplace in the living room and two very comfortable looking sofas.
Elias comes up behind you and grabs your hand "Come on, let's go to my room."
You let him lead you up the spiral staircase and into the long hallways. He stops at a door, which you assume to be the one leading to his bedroom.
He opens the door and takes one step-before quickly slamming it shut. You don't even catch a glimpse of the inside before he closes it.
You look up at Elias, he looks like he's seen a ghost "Why'd you do that?"
"No reason!" He replies quickly "Let's go to the living room instead, yeah? I actually just remembered my room's really boring!" He adds.
You raise an eyebrow at that. Really? The guy that's been annoying you for years with his self-centered attitude? This guy thinks his room is boring?
"You're hiding something."
"What? Me? No!" his voice is shaky when he says it.
You look at him, then at his hand still tightly clutching the doorknob, before yanking his hand off the doorknob and pushing the door wide open.
"Wait-" He doesn't get to finish as you're met face to face with the largest stuffed animal collection you've seen in your life.
You just stare. Elias was the guy you were least expecting to have something like this.
Here he is, acting all cool and tough at school when he has an entire mountain of plushies waiting for him at home.
You can't seem to find it in yourself to form a response. Instead, you burst out laughing.
"Yeah yeah, laugh it up. I bet you have stuffed animals at home too." He says, crossing his arms.
"I mean, I do, but not this many! And I also don't go around acting all tough at school!" You manage to say between laughs.
Elias scoffs at that. He's clearly trying to act annoyed, but you can't help but notice the small smiling forming on his face.

Part 3
It's been two months. Two months since Matteo started leaving you gifts at your apartment. Two months of leaving letters in your mailbox telling you how much he adored you. He thought enough time had passed that you'd be head over heels for him by now. He decided that tonight would be the night.
The night he asked you to be his wife.
He'd invited Max over again to get some advice. He was pretty helpful last time with the whole gift idea, so he assumed he'd be of help when it came to proposing to you.
Matteo sits at his desk as he waits for Max to arrive. His fingers tap impatiently on the surface of the desk, he just wants to get this over with so he can finally call you his and his alone.
His head snaps up when he hears the creaking of the door opening. His eyes fall on Max. He looks less nervous than last time he was here, but Matteo can still see the fear in his eyes. Good.
"You called for me?" Max says, walking over to sit across from Matteo.
Matteo nods "This will be the last time I ask for your help concerning Y/N." He moves to open his desk drawer and rummages through it for a few moments before pulling out a small velvet box and setting it between him and Max.
Max looks at it, he looks surprised "Is that what I think it is?"
"If you're thinking it's a ring, then yes, you're correct." Matteo replies.
"You can't be serious..."
"I've never been more serious in my life."
"You're not even dating her! What makes you think she'd agree to marry you!?" Max shouts.
"I've done what you've told me, no? Shower her with gifts and words of my undying love? I assumed I'd have her heart by now." Matteo says, utterly confused, he genuinely doesn't understand why Max is so baffled.
Max looks at him. He doesn't know if he should just agree to help him or if he should try to talk some sense into the man and risk putting his life in danger for talking back.
He decides his life is more important. So what if you reject Matteo? What's the worst that can happen?
Max puts on a strained smile "You're right boss! How could she possibly not be smitten with you after all the gifts you've showered her with? Now, what did you need my help with?"
Matteo smirks, satisfied "I was wondering how I should go about this proposal..." He pauses "How do people usually propose?"
Max leans back in his chair, facing the ceiling "Well, if I were you I would just say what's on my mind. Tell her how you feel, how much she means to you, stuff like that."
Matteo nods "Alright." He stands "You're dismissed. You have my appreciation for helping."
Max quickly stands, eager to get out of there. Matteo watches as he exits the room. Maybe he'd give Max the spot of his best man for how much help he's been in helping Matteo win you over.
────﹒♡﹒────
It's been a slow night at the bar today. You only saw Max once tonight and when you did he seemed pretty nervous. Did something happen to him? It's probably none of your business. You have your own stuff to deal with at the moment. Like why the owner of the bar keeps leaving you gifts. Actually, it's not really the gifts you're worried about, it's more so the letters. They started out sweet, him telling you how pretty you were, how he wanted to spend the life with you, sometimes sweet domestic things like him coming home to the smell of your cooking, or cuddling on the couch after a long day at work. However, it wasn't long before the letters started getting more...graphic. Him describing the things he would do at night while thinking about you. How obsessed he was with you. How he wanted to tie you up and-
You're pulled from your thoughts when you hear the sound of a customer walking in. You look up only to see the very man that's been plaguing your life for two months. You watch as he scans the room, searching for something, before they finally land on you. Of course he was looking for you.
You look down, trying to ignore him as he walks up to the bar.
"Hey sweetheart. I got a present for you." He leans over the bar, too close for comfort.
You tentatively look up, scared that if you continue to ignore him he'll do something. You expect to be face to face with him, but are surprised to see him on one knee and a ring box in his hands.
You freeze.
"Y/N..." He starts "Since the moment I laid eyes on you I knew you were the girl I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. I want to come home to you, want to raise my children with you...you've been all I can think about these past two months and I know you feel the same." He pauses, taking a breath "Will you marry me?"
This can't be happening. No. There's no way this man is actually asking you to be his wife. Did he actually think the letters and gifts would make you fall for him!?
You want to say no. You have to say no. But you're scared. Scared that if you deny him he'll do something to you.
Nevertheless, you gather the little courage you have and look straight at him.
"No." You say, tone firm and unrelenting.
You watch as his smile falters before quickly recovering "No?"
"No. I'm not marrying you."
He closes the box sharply. He stands up and exits the bar without another word.
Your hands are shaking. You can't believe you got out of that unscathed. You thought he was going to put at least somewhat of a fight.
You hope you made the right decision.
A/N: Bringing this series back after a month of not writing for it. This one is almost done, probably one or two more parts and it will be completed!

Part 2
You'd spent the whole weekend in a kind of daze. There was no way you actually liked Elias, right!? Sure, he kissed you, and sure, you let him. But that was just a heat of the moment thing, you definitely didn't like Elias, and there was absolutely no chance that you maybe had a small crush on him. Yep.
Elias didn't end up texting you during that entire weekend. Which was surprising considering how much he seemed to enjoy bugging you, but you didn't dwell on it too much. More time for you to get your thoughts sorted.
You woke up on Monday feeling pretty normal. You did your usual morning routine with still no word from Elias. You pushed down the feelings of disappointment as you continued getting ready.
When you arrived at school nothing seemed out of the ordinary. You got to your locker and fiddled with the lock before it opened. As you started to put your things inside, the sound of someone slamming their hand on one of the lockers made you jump.
You looked to your right only to see Elias leaning against one of the lockers, smirking at you.
"Hey princess." he said.
You turn back to your locker, resuming putting your stuff away "What do you want?"
Elias put a hand to his chest "Ouch, I thought after our date you'd be a little nicer to me."
"Just tell me why you came over here." you say, starting to get frustrated.
"Alright alright..." he put his hands up in mock surrender before reaching into his pocket and pulling out a red envelope. "This is for you. Don't read it until you get to class."
You reached out and took the envelope from his hand. It's probably something dumb, better not think too much of it.
────﹒♡﹒────
It isn't until you're about thirty minutes into class when you finally reach into your backpack and take out the envelope. You don't expect anything. You really shouldn't, but a small part of you hopes it's something.
You tear open the envelope. Inside is a piece of lined paper folded in half. When you open it you see writing, it reads:
Dear, Y/N
I had a great time on our date on Saturday, and it seems you did too ;). I know you just think of me as an annoyance, but ever since I first saw you I fell hard. I hope Saturday showed you how much of an amazing boyfriend I could be when we start dating. If you want to be my girlfriend meet me in the cafeteria during lunch, you know where I sit.
Love, Elias
P.S. See how romantic I can be? You wanna date me sooo bad
When you finish reading the letter your heart is beating rapidly and your cheeks are on fire. You didn't think Elias had that effect on you. Now the only question is what to do? Are you really going to become his girlfriend after how much of a jerk he's been to you in the past? Then again, you really did have an amazing date with him...
Lunch arrives quicker than you expected. You've made your decision, now all that's left to do is to give Elias your answer.
You spot him at his usual table. He's laughing with his friends. God, this is going to be rough. His friends are not very fond of you on account of how many times you've gotten them detention.
Nevertheless, you walk up to where he's seated. Almost as if Elias can sense your presence, the second you're about two feet away from him he turns around.
"Y/N! Glad you showed up!" he smiles, almost too cheerful. At the mention of your name his friends look up, throwing glares that would make any normal person run.
You decide to ignore them and focus all your attention on Elias. Turning to him, you pull out the letter from your bag.
"I read the letter." you say, handing it to him.
Elias looks at you, his smile widening, he doesn't take the letter "And? What's your answer?"
You nod "Y-Yes...I'd...um...I'd like to be your girlfriend." you mumble out that last part, almost not believing you actually agreed to date Elias.
He doesn't look surprised you agreed. If you didn't know any better, you'd say he already knew what your answer was going to be.
You watch as he reaches up to ruffle your hair and say "Then I'll see you after school. It could be our first date as a couple."
You blush, hard, before stammering out some sort of reply and scurrying off to your own table.
────﹒♡﹒────
Elias watches as you scurry off, you look like a cute little rabbit. His rabbit.
His thoughts are interrupted by one of his friends. "Really? Little Miss goody two shoes? Why'd you ask her to be your girlfriend?"
Another friend nudges the guy. "Come on, haven't you seen the way Elias looks at her? He's had a thing for her since the moment she gave him his first detention slip."
At that everyone sitting at the table turns to look at Elias, disbelief on their faces. Elias leans forward, resting his head in his hands. "She's been mine from the start. She just didn't know it until today." One of his close friends, Noah, raises a brow.
"Didn't she hate you just last week? What did you do to make her do a full 180?"
Elias smirks "Took her out to my parent's coffee shop. Gave her the time of her life and the best kiss of her life. Knowing her, it was probably her first kiss too."
Noah's eyes widen, almost disbelieving "You must really like her then. Usually with girls you just hook up and leave."
"I've already decided she's gonna be my wife. This girl will be my last." Elias says as he starts to leave.
"Wait wait wait-what do you mean wife!?" Noah starts to question.
"Sorry, can't talk anymore. I've got to see what my girlfriend's up to." Elias leaves, leaving the table of boys both very shocked and very confused.

Part 2
River looks at his watch for the dozenth time. 5:59. One more minute.
River's been standing outside the coffee shop for the past thirty minutes. He knows if he shows up any earlier than 6:00 you'll refuse to speak with him. So here he is, loitering in front of the place you work, hoping he'll get some sort of explanation as to why you suddenly cut contact with him ten years ago.
The second his watch reads 6:00 River enters the shop.
He looks around for a few moments before his eyes finally land on you. You're sitting at one of the tables, eyes glued to your phone, your work uniform now replaced by your regular clothes. Two drinks sitting in front of you. When River approaches your table you look up, giving him a small, polite smile. Not the kind you'd give to someone who'd been your friend for eighteen years. No, you gave him the kind of smile someone would give to a friendly acquaintance.
Once River is seated you speak.
"I...um...I got you a drink. I hope you still like these." you slide one of the cups towards him.
He looks at the drink in front of him. An americano.
"You remembered..." he mutters to himself.
You shift a little in your seat, clearly nervous "What'd you want to talk about?"
He raises a brow "I told you earlier. I want to know why you cut contact."
You look away and mumble something incoherent.
"What was that?" River asks.
He watches as you start to chew on your straw, not making eye contact. Habits you always did when you were hiding something.
He decides to call you out on this "What are you hiding?"
You look up, startled "I-I'm not hiding anything!"
River narrows his eyes "Yes you are. Even if we haven't seen each other in ten years I can still read you like a book." He grabs your hand "Tell me why you cut contact."
You look down at your connected hands. He knows what you're thinking. Contemplating whether you want to tell him the truth or not.
You shake your head "I can't..."
River lets out a long, resigned, sigh "Fine. You're not gonna tell me." He lets go of your hand and crosses his arms over his chest "I want your number."
"What?"
"Please Y/N? If you're not gonna tell me why you stopped talking to me then can we at least start over?" River takes out his phone from his back pocket and sets it down in front of you.
You look at it, then look at him, before picking up his phone and typing in your number.
Once you hand it back to him he stands up "I'll text you later."
────﹒♡﹒────
You lay in your bed staring at the ceiling, thinking about what happened today. You thought you'd never see River again, but today proved you wrong.
Were you happy to have finally reunited with him? You weren't sure.
A part of you was excited, you'd gotten to talk to your childhood friend and longtime crush again after all this time, but the other part of you was scared. Scared that River would see you as pathetic. Scared that this time he'd be the one to cut contact. If that happened, you wouldn't be able to bear the heartbreak.
The sound of your phone buzzing pulled you from your thoughts.
You sit up and reach for your phone that's resting on your nightstand, A text coming from an unknown number.
Hi Y/N. This is River.
You let out a short laugh. Even after all this time he still texts like that. Proper grammar and all. You type back a response.
hi :)
You immediately get a response.
I'm sorry about earlier. I hope I wasn't being too pushy.
ur fine
i was just a little shaken up
That's good. If it's not a bother I would like to ask you something. I promise it's not about why you cut contact again.
sure
If you're free Saturday then I would like to invite you to spend the day with me. We could go anywhere you want.
You blink. You weren't expecting him to invite you out somewhere, and you certainly weren't expecting the invitation to make your heart beat a little faster. You thought you'd gotten over your feelings for him by now, but it seems you still feel the same as you did when you were in high school. You shake your head, trying to ignore the feeling.
can we go to the arcade?
there's one near my apartment that i've always wanted to visit
Of course. Just send me the address. What time works for you?
any time in the afternoon
Perfect. Does 2:00 work for you?
────﹒♡﹒────
On Saturday at exactly 2:00 you're standing in front of an arcade, dressed in something a little nicer than you usually wear. You know he didn't invite you on a date. You told yourself that someone like him wouldn't invite someone as pathetic as you on a date, but a small part of yourself couldn't help but get your hopes up.
You look around, hoping to spot River somewhere when your eyes land on him. You give him a small smile.
When he reaches you he gives you a small once over.
"You look nice." he says.
You can feel your cheeks heating up at the compliment "Thank you...I don't usually go out, so I don't really wear anything nice."
"Then I hope spending time with me will give you more chances to dress up." he smiles before heading towards the entrance of the arcade and holding open the door for you.
You give him a small nod as thanks before walking inside.
Once the two of you have bought your game cards River turns to you.
"What game do you want to try first?"
You do a quick scan of the room, thinking more of what games he would like to play rather than yourself.
You point to a shooter across the arcade. River always used to play those when you were at his house. You would be cuddled up next to him while you watched him play. Wondering if he saw you as more than his friend.
River gives you a questioning look "Really? But I thought you hated shooters."
"People change." you respond.
He shrugs and heads over to the game.
The rest of the time at the arcade is spent playing games that you'd always sworn you would never play. River looks like he's having a blast. You hope your expression is convincing enough to make him think you're enjoying yourself.
By the time you exit the arcade the sun has already set. River turns to you, his expression unreadable "You weren't having fun."
You look up "W-What?"
"I can tell, your smile didn't reach your eyes. Why'd you play the games only I liked?" he questions.
You look down, nervously playing with your fingers "I didn't think you'd have fun if we played any that I wanted to play..."
River looks at you for a few moments before finally speaking "Stay here."
You watch as he heads back into the arcade, leaving you alone outside.
You knew this would happen. He probably wants nothing to do with you anymore. A girl who can't even speak her mind, what kind of guy wants that? What kind of guy would want a girl that-
Your thoughts are interrupted by something soft pressing against your cheek. You step back to see what's touching you only to see River holding a stuffed duck.
"I kept seeing you eye this every time we passed by the claw machine." he says before setting the duck in your arms.
"You got this for me?" you ask, not believing what's happening.
"Next time be a little selfish. If you're not having fun then I'm not having fun." he says.
"I'll see you around." River ruffles your hair before walking off.
You look at the plushie in your hands and smile.
A/N: Always Remember You won the poll I put up, so here it is! I also want to mention that River is a softer yandere, so this story isn't going to get as dark as my other ones will, but I hope you all still enjoy how the story will go!

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
You can't believe you agreed to go on a date with Elias. Elias. The person who you hate most in this world.
Standing in front of your mirror, you take a look at yourself. You haven't even gotten dressed yet, still in your pajamas, you're trying to delay this as much as you can. You're brought back from your thoughts by the familiar sound of your phone. You go over to where it's resting on your bed and pick it up, the light of the screen illuminating your face.
Excited for our date princess?
You roll your eyes and type out a quick response.
I can't believe I agreed to this stupid date.
Don't worry I'll make it worth your while ;)
Ew. Why does he have to keep using that dumb winking emoji? It's seriously grossing you out.
Nevertheless, you can't keep stalling forever. You set your phone back onto your bed and head over to your dresser. You set your eyes on a pretty sundress you have, you're about to grab it, but you pause. Why are you putting effort into this? The last thing you wanted to do was impress Elias of all people. Instead, you grab a pair of sweats and a hoodie. Maybe if you wear this he'll stop trying to ask you out. Yeah, he'll probably think you're ugly and never want to speak to you again.
────﹒♡﹒────
You make sure to arrive thirty minutes late to the date location, a nice little cafe that you and your friends and been to a handful of times. When you step inside you can see Elias sitting at one of the tables. He looks...annoyed? Nervous? Honestly, it's always hard to tell with that guy.
He looks up when he hears the little bell next to the door ring. His face instantly changes and goes back that familiar smirk. You take a deep breath, preparing yourself before walking towards Elias. You watch as he stands up and pulls out the chair across from where he was sitting. You give him an annoyed glance before taking a seat.
"I was starting to think you stood me up." Elias says as he sits down.
He looks you up and down "You look cute."
You raise and eyebrow "I'm wearing sweatpants and a hoodie. How is that cute?"
"I've only ever seen you in those prissy school uniforms. Anything is an upgrade compared to those things." He says.
Before you can think up a response to that, you hear the barista call out "Order for Elias!"
He stands up, giving you a wink before heading over to the counter and grabbing his order. When he arrives back at the table you get a good look at what he ordered.
"Why'd you get two drinks?" you question.
"Don't be silly princess, one of them is for you." He says, sliding one of the drinks over to you.
You look at the cup, then hesitantly pick it up to take a small sip. Your eyes widen when that familiar flavor hits your tongue. You look at Elias, who's smirk has now deepened.
"How'd you know what my favorite drink was?"
"You're always drinking it during lunch, I just happen to notice the small things." Elias replies.
You look back at the drink in your hands. Your chest does a funny little flip. You hate it.
────﹒♡﹒────
To your surprise, you actually end up having quite a nice time with Elias. He's actually pretty considerate when it comes to you, and he's made you laugh a few times. You'd also be lying to yourself if you didn't think he was a little bit attractive.
By the time you decide to head home Elias insists on driving you. Saying something about "not having his princess walk home alone" you gave him an annoyed scoff at that, but couldn't help the blush that tinted your cheeks.
The car pulls up to your driveway at exactly 7:00 PM. You unbuckle your seat belt and watch as Elias gets out of the car and runs to your side so he can open your door.
"I could've opened it myself." you say.
"What kind of man would I be if I let my date open her own door?" he responds.
You roll your eyes, but don't say anything else about the gesture.
Elias walks you up the driveway and to your front door. You dig through your bag for your keys. When you find them you go to put them in the lock, but pause when you look at Elias. He's smiling. Like, actually smiling, not one of the easy smirks he usually wears.
Your stomach does that weird flip again. You're not sure if you completely hate it this time.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" you ask.
He tilts his head "Looking at you like what?"
You turn to fully face him "Like you're actually happy to be here."
"But I am happy to be here."
You scoff "Please, we both know you asked me out because you like teasing me."
Elias's smile falls "Is that what you actually think?" You give a short nod.
Elias slowly steps closer and moves to cup your cheeks. You freeze for a moment, before relaxing into his touch.
"I'm in love with you. Have been since I first saw you." He whispers, you wouldn't be able to hear it if he wasn't so close.
"You're messing with me..." You say, but you don't entirely believe your words.
"What can I do to make you believe me?"
You hesitate. You know what you want to say, but can't quite get the words out. After a few seconds you finally will yourself to mumble "Kiss me?"
Elias doesn't waste any time. As soon as the words come out his lips are on yours. The kiss is surprisingly sweet, nothing you'd expect from a guy like Elias.
When you pull away you stay in each other's arms for a while. Basking in the other's presence.
After a few minutes Elias speaks "See you Monday princess."
He gives a small peck to your forehead before walking back to his car.
You watch as he drives off, your heart beating rapidly in your chest.

Part One
You checked the time for the seventh time tonight. 9:00 PM. He should've been home hours ago. Maybe he's held up at work? Whatever it is, you decide your boyfriend wouldn't be too upset with you if you ate dinner without him. So you picked up your fork and started the now, cold food.
Another two hours passed and still no word from your boyfriend. You're now sitting in the living room snuggled under a blanket and flipping through channels bored out of your mind. You get to the news channel and stop when you read the headline. "Strongest hero killed by villain in battle" your heart stopped. Displayed on screen was your boyfriend's picture. It can't be. They must be mistaken. It must be a different hero. Someone who looks similar.
────﹒♡﹒────
The funeral was a week after his passing. Since your boyfriend was a public figure the funeral was a public ceremony. You wished all these strangers didn't come. They didn't know him like you did. They didn't experience his soft laughter or endearing smiles. They only saw the person he was on the news and in interviews. They didn't love him, not like you did.
You didn't have time to grieve. You went back to the office only a few days after the funeral. You didn't smile at people, all you wanted was to go to work and go back home where you could cry yourself to sleep.
You were at your desk typing away at your computer when you heard footsteps behind you. You turned around to see a man poking his head into your cubicle.
He noticed your expression and his face dropped "Sorry, is this a bad time?"
You shook your head and wiped your watery eyes "It's fine...did you need something?"
He walked further into the cubicle, placing himself right beside you "I've been having issues with my laptop. I was hoping you could help me?"
You nodded "Yeah, sure, what's going on?"
He explained his issue. It was a something that could be easily fixed. Good. You didn't need any stressors when you were already feeling down.
After a few minutes the laptop was fixed and you handed it back to the man.
You thought he was going to leave, but he just stared at you. Silent. The two of you sat in this uncomfortable silence for a few painful seconds until he finally spoke.
"Are you sure you're okay?"
That was your breaking point. All at once the tears you'd been holding back for so long spilled out. You were babbling incoherently, but he understood what you were trying to say.
He opened his arms and brought you into a hug. You buried your face in his chest and sobbed. You didn't care if it bothered your coworkers. You were just relieved that you could finally let these bottled up feelings spill out.
────﹒♡﹒────
It'd been too easy. Rowan's plan was simple. Dispose of that annoying boyfriend of yours, show up to your cubicle claiming his computer had a "problem" when in reality it was a problem that he caused, be the only person to comfort you while you were grieving, and finally, get close enough to you that you'd agree to be his girlfriend.
It's already been a few months since the two of you started talking, and he could tell that you were starting to show at least some interest in him. He could tell from how you always seemed to gravitate towards him. You were also starting to be more physically affectionate.
Taking these signs into account, Rowan decided that today would be the day he would finally ask you out. He bought a giant bouquet of peonies the other day. You mentioned they were your favorite flowers during one of your many conversations. He also got you a pretty large stuffed bunny to go along with the bouquet. Rowan only visited your apartment a few times, but he couldn't ignore the sheer amount of plushies you had lying around.
Rowan looked at himself in the mirror. He didn't want to feel intimidating, so he opted to dress in something more casual. The two of you planned to meet at a park not too far from your apartment. He planned to ask you out then.
────﹒♡﹒────
Rowan arrived a few, no, several minutes early. He couldn't help it, he was wracked with nerves. Maybe you'd say no. Maybe you'd tell him that you never wanted to speak to him again. That no one could ever love a monster like him. That-
His thoughts were interrupted when he caught sight of you. You were smiling at him. You were actually happy to see him. Of course you were, you didn't know what a monster he actually was.
"Rowan!" you yelled happily, running up to him.
"Hey...I like your dress." he muttered, too nervous to speak any louder.
You twirled around happily, a slight pink dusting your cheeks "You think so? It took me forever to decide what to wear."
"Of course. You look great in anything." he replied.
You giggled. God. He loved that sound, he hoped he'd be able to hear it for the rest of his life.
You both wandered around the park for a bit, hoping to find a nice shaded area where you could eat. You finally picked a somewhat secluded area near a lake.
Rowan set out a blanket on the grass for you to sit on while you started to take out the sandwiches you made earlier from your bag.
You spent the next two hours talking about whatever you wanted, most of it was about work and how you hated most of your coworkers. Rowan was barely listening though. He spent most of that time trying to figure out when would be the right time to ask you.
He finally stood up, excusing himself, saying he needed to grab something from his car and that he'd be back soon. You watched as he practically ran towards the parking lot.
He came back a few minutes later holding the bouquet and stuffed bunny he bought.
You gasped "Are those for me?"
"Yeah...I wanna ask you something." he replied.
You blushed, already having an idea on where this was going, but you allowed him to continue.
"Y/N, I really like you. I have since the first moment I saw you." He steadied himself "I know I already asked you out when we first met, but I've never felt this way about anyone in my life." He took a breath "Will you be my girlfriend?"
You looked at Rowan. Then at the gifts in his hands. Then back to him. You smiled "I'd love to be your girlfriend."
You threw your arms around him and kissed him. Rowan smiled into the kiss, finally happy he had someone to call his.
A/N: I'll be posting one more fic after this before I have to start studying for finals. Wish me luck!

Part 2
You can't believe that asshole got you detention. You've never gotten detention in your life. You hate him, well, you've always hated him, but today made you hate him more.
It started out as a normal day. You woke up, walked to school, went to class...but during lunch you left the cafeteria to use the restroom. As you were walking through the halls you spotted someone in the courtyard. You knew who it was immediately, Elias, or Eli for short, was the bane of your existence. He was always breaking school rules, so often that you didn't know how he wasn't expelled yet, and right now he was smoking. Didn't he know that was bad for his lungs!? Even worse, it was against school rules! Forget the bathroom, this matter is more important.
You marched straight out to the courtyard. You spotted him sitting on the ground between the science and art buildings.
"Elias!" you yelled as you marched towards him.
He looked up, cigarette still in his mouth, and smirked "Hi princess." Gross. Why does he always have to call you that?
"Take that stupid thing out of your mouth." you snapped.
"This?" He looked at the cigarette between his lips "Nah, I'm good."
"Smoking is against school rules." you said.
"Then I guess it's a good thing I don't care."
Your eye twitched. This guy.
Without warning you snatched the cigarette out of his mouth and threw it on the ground.
"What the fuck was that for!?" Elias yelled, his smirk now gone.
"Now you won't get in trouble again for smoking. You're welcome." You started to walk away, but Elias grabbed your arm and pinned you against the brick wall.
"Hey! Let go!" you screamed, kicking your feet at him.
"I spent my hard earned money on that. Pay me back." he leaned closer, his face now inches from yours.
You let out a short laugh "Why would I spend my money on you?"
He looked you up and down, his smirk returning "Or you could pay me a different way..."
You reacted before you could even think. In less than a second you lifted your hand and slapped Elias across the face.
His eyes widened in surprise. He didn't think you were even capable of violence, but soon his surprise morphed into anger.
The two of you were fighting before you could even blink. Soon enough, a crowd of students formed around you two. You'd never been in a physical fight before, but Elias really pissed you off. If anyone warranted a slap it was him.
A teacher made her way through the crowd of students and froze when she saw you at the center of it. "Y/N!"
That's how you ended up here. Sitting in a cold classroom after school when you should be leading a student council meeting. And the worst part? Elias also had detention, which meant you had to be in the same room with him for an entire hour.
────﹒♡﹒────
You were hot. That was the first thing Elias thought when he saw you for the first time.
He hadn't known you for very long, but he knew that he was going to make you his. You were the first thing he thought about when he woke up and the last thing he thought of before he fell asleep. Sure, every guy in school knew you had the looks, but they usually stopped pursuing you after they got to know you. Your personality was too much for most people. You were stubborn, blunt, kind of arrogant, and a stickler for the rules. Elias didn't care though, he liked that about you. It meant you knew what you wanted. Who wouldn't like that?
He didn't expect the slap earlier, but if that's what got you two in a room alone together he wasn't going to complain. Now the only question was how he was going to get you to agree to be his girlfriend. If he asked now you would surely laugh in his face.
The opportunity arose when the teacher left the room to use the restroom. Elias reached forward and tapped you on the shoulder. You turned around, already annoyed with him.
"What?" you snapped
"Wanna make out?" he asked
"And why would I do that?"
He shrugged "I'm hot. You're hot. We'd make a good couple."
You rolled your eyes, turning back around.
Damn. Guess that didn't work.
────﹒♡﹒────
That evening you were sitting on your bed scrolling through your phone when a message popped up.
Hi princess ;)
At first you thought it was another guy trying to ask you out, but stopped when you saw the nickname. Princess. Only one person calls you that.
How'd you get my number Elias?
Your friend gave it to me, I think her name was Hannah?
Of course she did. Elias probably flirted his way into getting it. Hannah did always have a thing for the "bad boy" type.
I'm blocking you.
Why? I just wanna ask you something
Make it quick.
Are you free on Saturday?
You grimaced. Was he seriously trying to ask you out again?
No.
You're lying, but he doesn't need to know that.
Liar
And how are you so sure?
I asked your friend if you were free after she gave me your number
Damn it Hannah!
Then why did you even bother asking?
Cause I'm a gentleman
Realizing Elias is probably not gonna give this up until you say yes, you decide to just give him what he wants.
Whatever. Fine. I'll go on a stupid date with you. Don't expect me to be happy about it though.
Great! See you Saturday princess ;)
You groan. Laying back on your bed and setting your phone down. Saturday was going to be a rough day.

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3
It's been ten years since you graduated. Ten years since you cut yourself off from River. Your life hasn't gotten any better since then.
You tried going to community college, but you ended up failing out of it...twice. You ended up deciding that college probably wasn't something for you. So you tried looking for a job. Most places didn't want to hire someone without a degree, but you did end up finding a decent paying job at a well known company. Too bad you ended up getting fired shortly after for sleeping on the job.
That's how you ended up here. Working as a barista barely making enough to pay the bills. You honestly hate working here, but it was the only place that would hire you.
Often times you find yourself thinking about River. You wonder how he's doing now? No doubt working for some well known company, or maybe he's a big time model? No, surely you would have known about it if he'd gotten famous. Still, you wonder what your life would've looked like now if you had told him the truth. Your life probably wouldn't be this miserable. He would've thrown his dreams out the window and gone to community college with you. He probably would've even stayed up late to make sure you didn't fail out of any of your classes.
None of that matters though. You're here. Hating life. Meanwhile he's probably out there being successful.
────﹒♡﹒────
River never stopped thinking about you. After you abandoned him, River went off to a four year university just like he had planned. He didn't have much fun without you though. He woke up, ate, went to class, slept, repeat. He missed your laugh, your smile, your eyes, you.
He managed to keep in touch with your parents, they still adored him. He would sometimes ask about you, but never got much of a response from them. Apparently, you barely spoke to your parents anymore. Why? River was sure you were close to them, you'd never given him any indication that it was the opposite.
Nevertheless, River graduated with a law degree and ended up working as a prosecutor for a pretty well known law firm. That just left him feeling more empty. This life was supposed to be for the two of you to share.
To soothe the ache in his chest he tried to go out on dates. Most of them set up by his mother. He tried to engage, tried to like them, but none of them were you.
So he gave up on love entirely. He took more hours at work so he didn't have to come back to an empty house earlier than he wanted to. He was resigned to living an overworked and lonely life for the rest of his days.

beep beep beep
You wake up to the annoying sound of your phone. You reach over to where your phone is resting on the nightstand and press snooze.
After a few minutes of lying in bed, contemplating if you should call in sick, you get up. You stretch your arms before walking into the bathroom to start your morning routine.
As you're brushing your teeth you take a look at yourself in the mirror. When did you start looking so tired? Probably a few years ago. You don't really take care of yourself as frequently as you should. Hell, if you didn't have a job you probably wouldn't even have proper hygiene.
Once you're finished in the bathroom you head over to your closet and pick out some pants and a simple t-shirt. You don't even bother trying to get your hair to look nice, so you just throw it into a ponytail and call it a day. Finally, you grab your purse and head outside into the busy city streets.
You check your wallet and...nope. Looks like you're not taking the bus today if you want to make this month's rent. You sigh and resign yourself to walking to work.
You enter the coffee shop and are immediately greeted by the sound of your coworker's voice.
"Hey Y/N! Almost thought you were gonna call in sick again!" she yells from behind the counter.
Your coworker, or rather, Ellie, has worked here for a few months. She's currently working on getting her masters degree and is working here in order to pay her tuition. She's a pretty cheerful girl and has made your shifts more bearable.
You give her a small smile before stepping into the door labeled "employees only". You set your things down and grab your apron, tying it around your waist. Stepping outside again you spot Ellie taking orders behind the register. You step behind the counter and with a long sigh, start your shift.
A few hours of taking orders, making drinks, and cleaning tables pass pretty normally. Later in the day as you're busy making a customer's drink Ellie nudges your arm. You turn to see what she wants.
"Psst! Look over there!" she points over to the entrance where you see a man in a suit just entering the shop.
"What about him?" You ask.
"Isn't he hot!? I should ask him out! Quick, how do I look!?" she gives herself a once over in the reflection of one of the appliances.
"You look fine. Besides, you're not supposed to be flirting with customers while you're on the clock." she looks back at the man and then back to you "But look at him! Tall, nice hair, wearing a suit. I bet he's rich!"
You sigh "If you wanna go embarrass yourself be my guest." You turn back to the counter, not even sparing Ellie a glance.
────﹒♡﹒────
River steps inside the coffee shop and starts to take a look at the menu. Usually, he would go to the place near his job, but it was closed today so he was forced to go to this one instead. He'd heard good things about it from his coworkers, so he assumed it'd be up to his standards.
As he steps up to the register he can hear the two baristas behind the counter whispering about something, but he doesn't care enough to eavesdrop.
After a few more seconds of whispering, one of the baristas turns around and walks behind the register. She bats her eyes at him "What can I get for you today?"
River knows what she's doing. It happens often enough that he always knows when someone's trying to flirt with him. He doesn't care to acknowledge it though. With a monotone voice he says "I'll take a black coffee."
The girl's smile slightly falters at his tone of voice, but she quickly recovers "And can I get a name for that order?"
"River"
When he speaks he spots the other barista tense up for a split second. He watches as she turns around and...oh.
It's you. The person he never thought he'd seen again. Sure you look different, older, tired, but there's no mistaking it.
River watches as you look at him. A small flash of recognition in your eyes, but he can tell you can't fully tell if he's the same boy you grew up with or just someone with the same name.
"Y/N?" He asks
You quickly turn back around, going back to whatever you were doing before.
The barista behind the register looks between the two of you "Do you two know each other?"
"We do. The two of us grew up together." River says
"Y/N! You never told me you knew someone so hot! Are you guys dating!?"
"No." you reply sharply, not even looking back.
"Y/N, can you please just talk to me? I want to know why you disappeared on me." River begs
You turn to look at him and let out a slow exhale "Fine, but after my shift. I get off at 6:00."
"Good. I'll see you then." With a wave he leaves the shop, not even bothering to grab his order on the way out.
