               she is FIRE AND POISON, BEAUTY AND RAGE, refusing to be told what she can and cannot do, can and cannot be, whether she is allowed to exist — she is here; she is real; she is METIS. and yet, even after so long conversing with that boy, THE INMATE, she never thought of herself as one of them. she was no phantom thief, she was just... A LOST GIRL FROM NEVERLAND. ( were they not all LOST GIRLS AND BOYS, though? were they not all lost, seeking their way? ) and so she blinks ( once, twice, ) at the other, before giving a small nod.

               " i am...A PHANTOM THIEF OF HEARTS. i...belong here. " a pause, " ...thank you. "

               crimson hues widen when she sees him, sprinting over to meet him half way ( and of course, he walks right through her, but she'll turn around to follow him ) . the ghost would trot alongside him merrily, happy to see him once again ( how long had it been? at least A MONTH, certainly! ); conversations with him, though awfully one-sided, were nice, she found, always looking forward to them.

               ...today, however, was different. he seemed far more DISPIRITED ( no pun intended ) than usual. not that he was ever a very happy man, but this was...different. she'd grab a discarded piece of chalk and sprint in front of him to write a FROWNING FACE AND A QUESTION MARK on the ground before him, silently asking what was wrong. even if he didn't feel the same, she considered him a friend; she was WORRIED about him.

               there was no telling what had just transpired, or what it would lead to. no one was supposed to be able to enter without igor's permission, no one but GUESTS OR RESIDENTS, yet here he was, aboard a beautiful ship, hair of gold and eyes as easy to get lost in as the ocean itself. he offered his hand, bright smile overtaking his countenance, came with a chance of freedom from her blue prison. she desired this freedom, craved it, and so perhaps against better judgement, she took his hand and allowed herself to be pulled aboard the glorious vessel.
