So im just gonna soup all my DP related things into this blog - As a blanket warning the posts on this blog generally come from Phandom and will likely include topics of death, undeath, depression, dissection, gore, trauma, and the like.
Holy ghosts this was a prompt where I couldn’t find anything to do with. Becauseeee, I don’t want to spend too much time on drawing these prompts. But thanks to all the friends that helped me to figure stuff out :D <3
“Anyone seen Danny?” asked Maddie, glancing around as she stood in front of the table. “Thought he was going to help with the garage sale.”
“That little shit went on a run again,” hissed Jack, his voice low, narrowing his eyes.
“Jack!” yelled Maddie between closed teeth, crossing her arms against her chest and pointed a finger at him. “Don’t talk like that about our son. He has been helping with setting up the garage sale like a good boy, until that ghost scum of a Phantom showed up.”
“You’re right, Mads.” His shoulders slumped. “At least I sucked that ghost into the Fenton Thermos.”
“Yes, that’s all right,” she said and exhaled heavily, turning around to look at the table that was cluttered with FentonWorks devices. “I suppose we can deal with that later.”
“Now,” began Jack, “let’s sell some anti-ghost stuff to the townspeople so they can begin to protect themselves.”
“Yes,” said Maddie. “We should put up a sign as well. Don’t you think?”
We have past 29,000 posts in Danny phantom on AO3! I'm surprised a, um how old is the show again.. oh! 22 year old show! That's older than me by more than 3 years yet I'm here interested in it.
Currently only 15,921 fics are pure Danny phantom, meaning there's 13,088 fics with crossovers. Surprisingly close split. And of those 13,088 fics, 9,256 are dcxdp crossovers, with exactly 7,300 tagged under Batman (all media types).
the funniest part about danny phantom is that the entirety of the ghost zone somehow decides they have beef with this one 14 year old from illinois in particular. like why don’t you have beef with something that makes sense. like the irs. or the church. like you have all of these cool powers for what? picking fights with teenagers? lame. get a hobby.
Danny Phantom just gets wilder the more you know about it, really.
first of all i gotta say that it's not actually canon that he's from Illinois. the show is just "generic American small city" for his hometown and the fandom took context cues from other parts of the show and decided "Fuck it Illinois makes sense" and just kept that.
But I guarantee you, nothing about the show makes sense when you look at it too closely so take everything with a grain of salt. Yes I'm looking at you, Timeline.
the teenager in question is also kind of a ghost, hence part of the reason why the other ghosts are picking fights with him. He arguably picks a bunch of the fights himself.
it's not just the entirety of the Ghost Zone that get put into the antagonist role in the show either. Danny's other antagonists include:
A literal billionaire (who is also a ghost) (and gets himself elected mayor)
his parents (literally ghost hunters. who also fight the ghosts.)
a circus ringmaster with mind control and reality bending artifacts
Classmates at school who bully Danny
the closest thing we get to an adult who is on Danny's side is Mr. Lancer, who also supports the school bullies
the ghost who impersonated a school counselor and was literally in the role of Danny's therapist for a bit that one episode
A U.S. government agency
a girl he dates was actually being controlled by a dragon ghost and didn't actually want to date him. Have fun with that fallout kid.
the girl he dates for a bit who *wanted* to date him also shows up in costume to shoot him on sight.
his clone shows up and is supposed to be his enemy. he adopts her instead. yes those pronouns are all correct.
she's not really an antagonist but one of his best friends arguably kills him twice. once very much on purpose.
his other best friend and whatever happened in King Tuck.
like it's not enough that this show puts Danny (and friends) against the regular ghosts and the God-Like Being level ghosts and the literal Ghost Tyrant King guy
he can't even catch a break at home either
kid's literally surrounded by people deliberately or accidentally making his life harder, there are no safe Adults, there are barely any safe friends, and he is fourteen and half dead.
and his parents canonically want to rip his alter-ego apart "molecule by molecule" i am not kidding with that one.
Like they made us a sandbox of a Nickelodeon cartoon and just half assed it by grabbing a bunch of two-by-fours, nailing them together... and then sticking them on the beach.
and then people still get mad when the fandom shows up to build sandcastles and dig to china. Yeah, we know they didn't make it That Deep on purpose.
But we're here with the good Tonka Toys anyway and ready to dig.
This post just slapped me in the face (again) with the fact that Danny is just, never safe.
He's never safe.
Home, school, the zone, hanging out with friends, walking down the street, in anotger state; there is nowhere for Danny to go and be safe.
Most ghosts he's met (pretty sure everyone but Frostbite and Pandora), his parents, his friends, Vlad, Jazz; there is almost no one who has not at least once been his enemy.
Can you imagine living like that? At any moment of any day, anywhere he is anyone; even one or both of his best friends, his sister, his mom and dad; anyone could turn around and suddenly become someone he has to fight.
Danny has to be living his life in a perpetual state of adrenaline response. Every waking moment must be spent on a hairpin trigger, ready to fight at the first sign of danger. Can you imagine how much that is going to fuck you up?
My man is struggling and any fics that feature PTSD, cptsd, anxiety, paranoia, or just general mental breakdown? 1000% justified. Canon compliant. More canon than Phantom Planet. (Especially since AGIT retcon'd that trash)
Y'know that common thing where we make Danny have a slower heart rate because ghost boi?
So, that's supposed to be true. As a halfa he should have a steady heart rate around 20bpm in both forms. And originally that was true after his body settled into its new healthy after the accident. But by the time anyone team Phantom thinks to actually check that stuff just in case, Danny is already Stressed™ 24/7, so they inaccurately judge his baselines to be in perfectly normal human ranges. Like, 70bpm at rest and 120 immediately after ghost fights.
And since consistently having your heart beat at 50-100bpm above what it should is, mm, not good for the organ... Danny has actually been experiencing frequent cardiac events and just not noticing it because it seems like it's all just his new normal and his ghostliness keeps him alive (enough) and lets him recover.
Danny’s life is so wild and sad, while we’re out here like “Holy shit, that’s horrible. How can we make it worse?” and start pilling on even more angst lmao.
Also sometimes forget just how scary Danny’s life’s got to be. Poor kids gotta be so friken stressed. Really like the idea of his heart rate being super high(for a halfa) because of it.
Which also makes me think about Vlad somehow getting his hands on Danny’s heart rate and just *stares in horror*. Because, yeah he’s a supervillain nutjob, but he has standards! He’s absolutely convinced that all the horrific stuff he does to Danny is justified as “for his own good” or something so he feels actual, genuine concern for Danny’s health.
Danny’s creeped the fuck out by it like “Dude! We’re only here at the hospital because you hit me with your car! On purpose!”
“That’s different Daniel! I do it because i love you!”
other superheros get training from their mentors, from the super secret society, from alien tech, from the monks or they have some kind of military background.
phantom, on the other hand, got training from the firefighters in his town after he crashed on their cases one too many times and they decided that "yup, if your gonna try to help, might aswell give you some training so you could be useful.", he got training from the paramedics because they were worried he wouldn't know how to help an injured human, he got training from his local town detective who smokes too much and gives him cookies when he can help with his Ghost senses and figure out if this was a human crime or a ghost crime.
It's been 22 years already? Well damn, Happy 22nd Dannyversary then! I may be a day late but better than no art at all, right?
I adore the phandom, this show, and the company it gives me. Everyone is so nice and all the stories people have made based on Danny Phantom is AWESOME. I doubt I ever will leave this phandom <3
Danny and Jazz are ordered to stay with their estranged uncle thrice removed, due to Jack and Maddie needing them out of the house for adult reasons they're cleaning up and dodging a child neglect investigation as well as tax evasion.
The new city is...pretty big. Different. New, for sure.
But theyre pretty sure that their Uncle's weird friend is either a ghost or an alien or, worse, a stalker.
They land on stalker.
But their Uncle! He's hapless! A pathetic man in all but his job, and even then! He must be protected! He clearly doesn't know how to tell a creep to fuck off!
So Jazz and Danny ban together to protect their Uncle Clark from Brucie Wayne, who is clearly a creepo stalker.
Ma Kent would not let him leave the house without teaching him how to cook.
“Maddie! I hope the kids are all packed! They uh, boring people are arriving soon!” Jack Called as he frantically shoved full test tubes into an already leaking duffel bag.
“They’re all set!” Maddie called from the kitchen as she put the last pieces of luggage into the car. “ You are going to love Metropolis kids! There are so many new things to experience in the big city!” She then urgently hopped into the driver’s seat, made sure her kids were buckled up and punched it.
“Where are we even going? It’s not really beneficial to child development to randomly uproot them from their homes.” Jazz protested from the backseat, surrounded by haphazardly packed bags.
“Well, you’re going to stay with your estranged uncle thrice removed!” Maddie said jovially as she ignored the second comment.
“Care to elaborate on that mom?” Danny had grown increasingly concerned over staying with a random relative. The last time he was introduced to someone by his parents it was the worst. “Is he anything like Vlad?”
“Oh no non quite the contrary! He works an honest job as a reporter and is such a nice young man.”
Danny was not convinced by this at all. He also knew that he had grown a lot since his first encounter with Vlad.
Danny steeled his resolve as he rang the doorbell. If things go south he can just grab Jazz and bolt.
The muffled sound of stumbling seeped through the door.
“Uh, just a second! I have visitors, can this wait for another time?”
A second voice, less intelligible and considerably lower said something in a questioning tone.
“It’s fine” the door opened. “It’s just my niece and nephew.”
A tall, brawny guy opened the door in a surprisingly sheepish manner for his frame.
“Sorry about that! Come on in!”
Black hair, blue eyes. He could definitely be related to Danny.
Noticing his gaze, Clark adjusted his hair. “Sorry, I always try to get my hair to do the windswept look but it always resembles more of a storm swept look.”
Jazz and Danny entered the apartment. Perhaps his previous skepticism was wrong. This man seems completely harmless.
“Now who are these young people? Might I have the pleasure of knowing your names?” Danny turned to find the inquiring party to be
“Bruce Wayne?!”
A bright, warm laugh escaped the from the billionaire.
“The one and only!” He answered.
Danny did not like rich people. There was only one exception. Other than her, no rich people.
Jazz could see her brother bristling and decided the best thing to do was to cut the tension.
“My name is Jazz and this is Danny, my younger brother. As you heard earlier Clark is our Uncle.”
Bruce Wayne then clapped Clark on the shoulder, garnering no reaction. “Leave it to me to interrupt a family reunion! I’ll come back later to finish our discussion. See you Clark!”
Jazz and Danny shared a look then entered.
“I made dinner!” Clark called out from the kitchen “ I don’t know if you’re hungry but I always err on the side of yes when it comes to teens.”
Danny’s suspicions towards Bruce momentarily subsided. “I’m actually pretty peckish.” Jazz nodded in agreement.
Clark beamed and started to set the table. Roast beef, mashed potatoes with garlic, roasted broccoli and dinner rolls.
Danny took one bite and paused, Jazz spoke before he could.
"This is delicious! Did you make all of this yourself?"
"Sure did! My ma taught me everything I know, but her's is much better and much more uh, aesthetically pleasing." Clark said as he helped himself to more potatoes.
Danny shoveled another bit of broccoli into his mouth before inspecting a piece of meat. "It really does taste fantastic but it looks like some one cut it by swirling a laser around-"
"Okay! Does anyone want apple pie?" Clark asked suddenly.
"You made pie too?"
Okay, Danny needs to protect this man at all costs.
After they got settled in Danny immediately got his laptop out and messaged Tucker.
'Hey dude do you have anything weird about Bruce Wayne? I just met him and he gave me the creeps.'
Tucker immediately answered
'who do you think I am? are you asking me to get dirt on Bruce or fully hack him bc you can just look at any gotham tabloid to see what kind of person he is'
Tucker was not wrong.
Articles described a "Brucie Wayne" being a party animal, a charmer and generally not the brightest. That certainly did not fit the urgent, secretive tones he was speaking in in Clark's apartment.
'You know me, I want you to fully hack him.' Danny replied. 'He switched it up as soon as we showed up. I think "Brucie Wayne" is just an act.'
'roger'
