“Is it ever gonna be enough?” @ghxstdrums
It had been a bit of a tough fight against a large group of bullies that had been harassing a drag queen in an alleyway after a show, but the Black Canary and the other masked hero had gotten away with a few bumps and bruises at the most. The fight had left Dinah with a sweaty smile on her face with the thrill of a job well done, but the other woman's words caught her attention. "Hey," Dinah said with a soft smile. "There's always going to be more bad guys and bigots in the world... but right now? We saved one person and showed them that there's someone in their corner."
"Right," Gwen replied numbly, staring as the crowd dissipated. If the super beatdown didn't do it, then the distant sound of sirens did the rest of the work. The queen from earlier had long since disappeared. Smart.
The fight left her itching to do more. It was in the looks on their faces, the hatred that pumped through their veins and came out of their vile mouths, taking the shape of taunts and threats and slurs. She had the power to show them all what true fear felt like. If it hadn't been for the Black Canary's presence, Gwen might not have held back as much as she did.
"Except it's my corner, too." It came out before she could stop it. It came out angry and bitter. Gwen lowered her head, ashamed at the outburst. Especially considering this was Ghost-Spider's first impression with the other hero. "Do you..." she hesitated, quieter, "do you ever have that fear that you might not be able to stop yourself one day?" She bit the inside of her cheek, choosing not to elaborate.
