Capitalist culture is service industry workers not being allowed to sit down for their entire shifts, no matter how dead the traffic flow gets.
Capitalist culture is service industry workers sacrificing their comfort for antagonizing and pervy customers who are “always right”.
Capitalist culture is giving students homework in order to prepare them for their future careers where they’ll inevitably need to “take work home with them” or work extra hours in order to put bread on the table.
Capitalist culture is helping physically/mentally ill people only to the extent that they’re able to generate profitable labor again.
Capitalist culture is destroying food that can’t be sold rather than distributing it to poor people according to need.
Capitalist culture is monetizing knowledge and making it artificially scarce so that owners can profit and laypeople are left in the dark.
I’m glad the sequel still had some Eremin in it! ♡
tfw youre starving and have food right in front of you but can’t bring yourself to eat it b/c it’s suddenly repulsive to you
Fuck every single person who has ever made a man feel like his trauma didn’t count because he was a man. I’m serious, fuck you all.
happy kids! such surprise
I wanted to color this so badly, but maybe it would be better without it.
me, trying to accept the fact that i’m mentally ill and as a result impaired in my function: but….. i’m… probably… just lazy. a bad person. i simply need to pull myself together and that’s it
Avoidant (or Anxious) Personality Disorder
This is very similar to generalized social phobia. Those with the disorder think of themselves as being inadequate, unlikeable and socially inept. They fear being rejected, criticised or ridiculed and would rather avoid most social situations. The reasons can differ may be related to emotional neglect and peer group rejection in childhood and/ or adolescence. Symptoms may include the following:
- Hypersensitivity to rejection/criticism
- Self-imposed social isolation
- Extreme shyness or anxiety in social situations. (However, the person still has a strong desire for close and meaningful relationships)
- May avoid physical contact with others (because it is associated with emotional or physical pain)
- Painful feelings of inadequacy
- Poor self-esteem
- Intense feelings of self consciousness
- Self hatred or self-loathing
- Mistrust of others
- Emotional distancing/ fear of intimacy
- Highly critical of their ability to relate naturally and appropriately to others
- Do not feel they can connect with others (although others may view them as easy to relate to)
- Intense feelings of inferiority.
- In more extreme cases, may suffer from agoraphobia.
Treatment approaches include social skills training, cognitive therapy, gradually increasing exposure to social situations, group therapy and, occasionally, drug therapy. Gaining and keeping the client’s trust is essential for progress to be made.
@greater-than-the-sword
Stop this “work hard” bullshit. You deserve free time, you deserve sleep and you deserve mental health. You deserve to procrastinate and you deserve to have your hobbies. You deserve it. You need it. No one should work & study all the time.
Will i ever get over KnB ?
Report: 95% Of Grandfathers Got Job By Walking Right Up And Just Asking
Fun story my history teacher told us: his grandfather during the industrial revolution walked past a flyer which said “looking for smart strong boys” so he went into the factory, said “i’m strong and smart”, and he had that job from age 13 to 78
and this is why they expect the younger generation to simply “get a job” ahh it’s so much clearer now
#basically everyone aged Baby Boomer and up #still can’t wrap their heads around the fact that there’s no such thing as ‘just walking in’ anymore #like the majority of jobs you’d actually want require online applications and you’re lucky to get a rejection email (via halffizzbin)
Here’s another fun story: My boss decided to slap my work phone number on all the ads we post looking for newspaper carriers. So I receive a bunch of calls from people looking for jobs. Working only part time, I’m not usually there when they call, so they have to leave a message and I take their info to pass on to my boss. Sometimes it can be weeks before my boss calls any of these applicants back, if at all. How the callers respond to not getting a callback varies. Most don’t do anything, but some call again. If the person sounds young, they may leave another message clarifying their qualifications and reaffirming their interest. If the person is old, and I can always hear it in their voice, they respond by getting mad, threatening to cancel their newspaper subscription, and occasionally swearing. The older generation is used to getting a callback, and an immediate one, so they throw a tantrum when they don’t get what they want.
And everyone calls Millennials entitled.
Mind. Blown.
This is great info, but the way the headline is phrased made it sound like they got the job of being a grandfather by walking right up and just asking
