Which do you want: the pain of staying where you are, or the pain of growth?

New 18 page story in Apartamento.
My first published interview! I went to Mae Rim, Thailand and spent an afternoon photographing and interviewing the incredible director Apichatpong Weerasethakul for Apartamento 11. We talked about film, mosquitoes, and ghosts, oh my!

It’s 100% a love story. The best love stories are the ones where they don’t end up together. We very deliberately tried to make it like a love story. She has girl, she loses girl, she tries to win girl back. Just trying to make it feel like it was existing within the tropes of a romantic love story, then letting the reins go. It’s sad. That’s my favorite feeling in movies, that ache.
Greta Gerwig, on Frances/Sophie’s relationship (via violentwavesofemotion)
The person you love is not the same as they were when you first started loving them and they are not the same as they will be when you die. Love must be adaptive. Love must be smart enough and strong enough to survive constant change. Love must not be rigid.

I can say no but i have to be willing to pay the price. For me, paying the price was having not everyone understanding what I was doing . And its scary, late at tonight when you’re thinking “Maybe I am really going to fuck myself up, maybe Im doing the wrong thing. Maybe they all know something when they say I should follow this and that rule: What am I doing?” I keep saying these words over and over again, because this is what has sort of anchored me down. What price do I wanna pay? but I still go through a lot of confusion and a lot of doubt.

A SENTIMENTAL ANALYSIS
A rather recent outcropping of computer science has come to the fore, unbeknownst to us: that of “sentiment analysis.” A sphere of statistics that does not set out to understand the subjectivity of the individual, but tries to “mine” millions of opinions, to exploit the results in the orientation of production and marketing of consumer goods, and more: sentiment analysis is a technique we might call “post Enlightenment,” with the potential to measure and control the body politic. John Menick examines the birth, development and techniques of this sort of pseudo-science and proposes an ingenious form of resistance, short-circuiting quantification itself.
