Hey doctors! I know we're all sad about how Caduceus has been out of business for a decade, but worry not: I'm making my own hospital! My own Trauma Center, you might say. All so that you can have the privilege of fighting a life-or-death battle against GUILT once more :)

I'll be posting the new hospital's progress in #trauma center recreation. And of course, what's a hospital without GUILT? I've got a few ideas for my own, filed under #pathogen oc. I also sometimes just have stuff to say about the fun stuff that happens in the medical world, tagged #misc.

Just about finished the darkness operation. I have "death hints" on all the levels that give advice for struggling players, but on some levels its hard to come up with anything besides "use stabilizer". Anyway preview video:

I'm proud of y'all!

There's a game-breaking glitch in the recent level "Evil Within Evil" that slipped under the radar. Normally when you finish an organ, it just gets deleted. But this level requires you to return to the stomach to finish off the Kyriaki, so it temporarily stores the organ. However, while that organ is stored, it still exists and can receive signals.

The way wounds spawn mid-operation is by shouting the signal "HEY! I HAVE A WOUND HERE! SPAWN IT!" The organ listens for that signal, takes the wound, and makes it a child of itself. However, if somehow there were 2 organs listening for that signal, one of them would take the wound first and the other would be unable to. That's exactly what happens when the stomach organ is in storage, inactive but still listening. However, I never noticed this glitch because Triti doesn't use the normal "spawn wound" signal, it just handles spawning stuff itself.

However, if you die during the Triti stage and then either restart or exit the level, the stomach organ in storage never gets deleted! Which means the "spawn wound" signal will be permanently broken.

But no one ever reported a glitch like that happening. Which means none of you died on the Triti stage! Awesome work everyone, you're all excellent doctors!

#original #that's all the levels tested and given rank requirements!#this one (Evil Within Evil in case that wasn't clear) was TOUGH!#jeez it's like someone put two guilt operations in one and made them both harder! >:(#there's SOOOO many ways to fuck up #i got one good run of this level and initially set the requirements to 2:30 for time and 100 for damage #but then i decided to make sure my run wasn't a fluke #it was #i retried so many times. failed to find kyriaki in time. improper use of sedative. and god. damn. triti #i went for a greedy strategy. extracting the entire left side at once before any thorns regenerate #it's possible but tight. pull thorns in the wrong order? fail. miss pulling out a thorn all the way? fail. sloppy scalpel use? fail.#and it's so tempting to go for more. to see a tile on the right with two thorns still missing and to think “just grab it”#and then when you're doing the right side you have to do it in two rounds. you will think you can do it in one. don't. fucking don't #you COULD if you're Awre but otherwise? don't. you'll see a purple and think “oh god my damage score-” don't. don't do it.#let the thorns regenerate first. make good use of the sedative. you'll be fine.#on the attempt in the screenshot i got 2 thorn vaporizations in the first round and got a badly-placed purple in the second #but i did it. i rushed the first round and got the whole left side. i stood strong in the face of purple and waited for my chance.#it was close. but i did it #that said i am adjusting the requirements to 2:05 time and 105 damage because god damn. a little too harsh when there's kyriaki rng #also it's 95% tech but i got 100% anyway because i'm awesome #oh also: the new update will delete your save file so if you care about your times then be sure to save them elsewhere

#trauma center recreation #next update progress #original #i'm using my scores and then adding some leeway to them #the time threshold is 62 seconds. damage threshold is 35. tech is 95%#so you only need to be MOSTLY perfect #oh btw for most operations sedative is practically mandatory for getting S-rank on damage #on bythos i think it's literally impossible to get the damage threshold without sedative. you can't laser it fast enough to stop its attack #well. i did once manage to only allow 2 attacks: its opening attack and 1 auto attack #in this run it got 2 auto attacks #but even with just 1 auto attack idk if it's possible without sedative #oh and on its 3rd auto attack it makes a hemorrhage. so you definitely lose there. so always be lasering it #in one bythos xs run i've seen the player actually stops lasering and waits for bythos to make more lacerations so they can farm points #that. is fucking stupid. very glad my scoring system doesn't have that flaw

Finally adding ranks to the scoring system! Different than Trauma Center's system, but it's easier for me to implement.

#original #trauma center recreation #next update progress #oh yeah also “DAMAGE” is the total vitals damage taken over the course of the operation #i always disliked the vitals bonus. it basically just boils down to “stabilize to full at the end of the operation”#not difficult. just tedious #counting damage instead encourages you to do your job and minimize the patient's suffering #TECHNIQUE is how many cools you got basically #except instead of counting the number of cools it's the percentage of cools #goods count as half a cool and misses count as a negative cool #this is so that you don't go farming points on kyriaki lacerations #i read on the wiki that getting XS on certain kyriaki missions is impossible if you go too fast because there won't be enough lacerations #but the TC wiki is not a reliable source of information so idk #in any case: no laceration farming. that's dumb. and not very Doctor of you #also there's no bonus objectives. i wanted to do those but a lot of them are redundant #like “finish with X seconds left” that's covered by the time rank. “no misses” that's covered by technique #they're more effort than they're worth. sorry

I recently posted about how I accidentally left a testing change in an actual level, resulting in 20 imps spawning instead of 4. Out of curiosity, I tried to beat the level, and failed so miserably that I deemed it impossible. However, I posted about it in the Discord server for Cutting Edge and it got the attention of someone named Awre. Trauma Center fans may know him for his Youtube channel Surefire Tactics.

This probably looks like just a silly debugging test. That's because it is. supposed to be. I made the portal spawn like 20 imps to test for a movement_handler bug, and then I fixed the bug and uploaded the fix. And forgot to change the portal back. OOPS!

So yeah, this is the currently-live version of Satanic Panic. My project files are already full of code for the next update, so uploading a fix for this would be pretty inconvenient. So, I'm just going to leave it like this until I'm done with the next update. In the meantime, wanna try a challenge run?
