Sally nodded. She tried, but it was only a few moments untul the door opened again, and suddenly a bloody and disheveled Enid stood in the door, tightly followed by two children and an even more dissheveled second woman.

“We need help” Enid said bluntly, ushering Cassia and the little girls to the other couch and helping them sit down.

Sally pulled away, more stressed by this. "What happened Enid?" She asked,hiding deeper into the blankets.

"Mum I'm hungry!" Athena and Ophelia started to whine again.

"I know, I know" Cassie answered simply, holding on to the back of her neck. It felt sore.

“She was pushed out a window” Enid said, nodding towards Cassia and then limping towards the kitchen to make something for the children to eat.

Cassia looked at Delia fearfully. "My husband got mad." She explained. "Enid...Enid caught me." She told her.

Sally whimpered fearfully.

“Will… calm you take sally to her room?” Delia said softly. “Please?”

She turned to Cassia. “Are you badly hurt?” She asked. “I’ve got a first aid kit I can help clean you up” she said.

Will nodded. He'd come back with tea and now he helped her up to take her to her room.

Cassia nodded and winced. "My neck hurt...and my foot. Well all of me hurt but those are the big ones. I'm probably bleeding somewhere too."

Athena and Ophelia ran put to the kitchen and Eda.

Delia nodded, shifting in her wheelchair. “I’ll be right back” she said, wheeling away to find the first aid kit to try and help.

Enid looked up from the pot of leftover soup she was warming up. “Hello girls” she said quietly.

"Hi" The girls said, suddenly standing straight, waiting patiently.

Sally nodded, it made her feel a bit better. If she was in the kitchen she was well enough to cook, her panicked mind argued. She sat down on the bed.

Delia frowned. “I can help” she said. “Here, see your knees scraped?” She asked, seeing the bloodstains on Cassia’s skirt.

Sally shook her head. She took the tea cup from will, enjoying the warmth of it. "Don't tell Enid what happened. She has enough to do." She said quietly, trying ti push past her own barriers to think more clearly.

Cassie tried to bend down to look but hissed. Her neck hurt badly when she tried. "Damn. Now I have to walk around in bloodstained clothes." She sighed.

Cassie looked at her. "I told you not to come back. Or you could've let me fall...I would've survived. He wouldn't really have killed me off. He needs my salary." She said. "You don't have to be upset, it wasn't really your fault...but you should've listened to me. I know my husband."

Cassie nodded, picking up Athen abd outtung her in her lap when Enid left. At that point Delia finished, and dhe worried what she was going to say

“The police want to come and talk to you” Delia told Cassia. Athena hud her face against her mother.

"Of course they do" She sighed. "They always want to talk to me when he does something." She sighed. "I guess I should tell them what happened?" She hugged her daughter tight

“You should!” Delia said. “Something has to be done. And you’ve got a witness this time! Enid will tell them!”

Cassia nodded. "I guess she will" She agreed. "He's mever been this angry before...but he had been drinking...I could tell."

“Did he hit you?” Delia asked a softly

"Not this time. He kicked me, and threw me around. Then he threatened to throw me out the window because it was so funny to see his wife contemplate jumping." She rubbed her arm, where he shirt sleeve had been torn apart.

Delia frowned. “We’ll It’s hardly funny” she said. “Tell the police that. He can get arrested for doing that” she sakd.

Cassia nodded. "It was a second story window." She mumbled. "That's why Enid had to catch me.'

Delia sighed. “We’ll tell the police all of that” she said seriously.

Cassia nodded. "I can't believe this happened. I can't believe I' leaving him."

Cassia nodded. "I can keep mu salary." She mumbled, s 8f that was the most ansurd thing.

At the same time there was a knock on the door. "Police"

“I’ll get it” Enid said, hobbling back to the door

Cassie stayed still, frozen in fear as they came inside, heading towards her. Athena clung tighter to her and held the baby tightly.

“Are you cassia?” The officer asked her, his voice was soft and kind.

Cassia nodded. "I am." She confirmed. "You wanted to know about my husband.'

“Yes. I heard you were pushed out a window?” The officer said.

"Yes, from the second floor. I...I had opened the window. He locked me in our bedroom and I...I considered jumping to get away. He was going to pull me back in but my shirt broke amd he...he lnly just caught my arm to stop me from falling. Instead he let me dangle...when Enid came he got enraged and threw me." Cassia explained painstakingly, trying to be as detailed as she could.

The officer nodded, taking notes. “Alright” he said seriously. “We’re you injured?” He asked

Cassia nodded. "Enid too. She tried to catch me." She said. "He...he hurt his niece too. He threw a vase at her head."

The officer nodded. “That warrants an arrest for an assault” he said seriously.

Cassia nodded. She was starting to get qorked up. "I could've died. Falling from the second floor...if not for Enid I could've broken my neck. It's worse than everything else he's ever done."

The officer nodded. “So he’s got a history of abuse?” He asked

She nodded. "Not on the children, but on me." She nodded. "He hits me."

“Often?” The officer ask. “Is It a regular thing?”

Cassie nodded. "Whenever he gets impatient, or we run out of money. Often."

“Does be work?” The officer asked

Cassia shook her head. "Just me. I take the kids with me to work because I don't dare leave them alone with him."

The officer nodded. “So he uses your money?“ he asked

"It's his money. We're married." She said. "And he gets mean when I don't let him have his fun."

The officer frowned. “It doesn’t work that way. You earned the money, and it should be in your name” he said seriously. “What do you mean? What does he do for fun?”

"Everything is in his name. The house, everything." Cassia said. "It has been that way since we got married." She swallowed. "He likes to gamble and drink and...meet other women."

“We’ll as the one who dies the work, you can go to your employer and ask for the money to be transferred to an account in your name” he said.

Cassia nodded. "I'll have to do that...it's in a joint account right now."

“You can do that” the officer agreed. “Do you need to take a moment?” He asked.

Cassia shook her head. "What about the children?" She asked. "He can't have them back. He'll hurt them."

"Here" She said. "They said they have a pull out couch where we can stay."

The officer nodded. “That’s a good alternative for tonight, but perhaps you should start looking into something more long term.

Cassia nodded. She started to cry, upset and worried as she realized that she was homeless.

Enid went to sit next to her, awkwardly patting her shoulder. “Hey… it’s ok. We’ll help you”

Cassia nodded, trying ro dry her years. "What about my things? And the girls, they only have a bsckpack each, I don't even have that...does he just get to keep all of it?"

“If you have enough for tonight you should be able to go get your things tomorrow. There’s an officer headed to your place to have a word with your husband”

Cassia froze. "What are you going to twll him?"

“That he’s under arrest. He hurt you, your daughter and your friend” the officer said.

Cassia nodded. "Ophelia isn't my daughter. She's my niece. But I'm her legal guardian. I take care of both our daughter and her."

“Alright, well he did hurt a little girl regardless” the officer said.

"It's still domestic violance." Delia pointed out.

“Exactly” the officer said. “We’ll arrest him tonight and take him into the station”

"Good" She nodded. "Thank you."

The officer offered a reassuring smile and stood up. “I’ll let you get some rest now” he said.

Cassia agreed. "Goodbye"

Enid meanwhile was patching her own scrapes up.

Delia rolled over to her. "Enid...if you feel up to it...you should checj on your aunt." She told her gently.

Sally nodded. "Good idea" She agreed. "Could you get my bag? I leftnit in the livingroom."

Enid came into the room. “I fed the little ones” she announced.

Sally nodded, laying down to sleep.

Will hurried to get her bag.

Delia frowned. “He still threw you out” she said. “You can report him for that”

Enid looked guilty. “I’m sorry. We were just worried… I’m sorry you got hurt because of me”

Sally was half-asleep by the time he got back.

Enid looked guilty and nodded. “I’m really sorry” she said. “This is all my fault.” She sighed, sitting down on the other couch with a deep frown on her face.

Will put a blanket over sally to make sure she was warm.

"You think daddy gonna find us here?" Ophelia asked Athena.

Enid looked at her scraped up hands and sighed. “I’m still really sorry” she told cassia.

“Take care. Get some sleep.” Will told her gently, making sure the blanket was properly tucked around her.

“Dunno” Athena said, taking ophelia’s hand and holding it tightly. “I’m scared” she whispered.

Ophelia nodded. "I'm scared too!"

Delia frowned. "I'm calling the police."

"At least he didn't get a chance to hurt thw kids thank to you" Cassia said, feeling bad.

Athena sniffled a little. “We can go home anymore” she said sadly.

“Other than the case he threw at ophelia” Enid said. “She has a nasty cut on her head. I cleaned it up for her”

"That's on me for leaving them home." Cassia said. "It's really all my fault. Not you. I'm sorry I said that." She told Enid.

Ophelia nodded. "I don't want to go home to daddy " she said.

Enid sighed. “You can stay here for now” she said quietly. “We don’t have any more rooms, but one of the couches pulls out into a bed” she offered.

Delia was busy calling the police.

“Are you hungry?” Enid asked Cassia. “The girls are eating”

“You should eat. The girls said you didn’t have lunch” Enid said.

Cassie shrugged. "I had the oastry you bought me." She defended herself. "Don't waste yiur food on me."

"Mommy!" Athena came running out.

“That hardly counts as lunch” Enid said. “I’m getting you some soup. It’s just left overs if you’re worried, and it’s hardly a waste.

Cassie nodded, picking up Athen abd outtung her in her lap when Enid left. At that point Delia finished, and dhe worried what she was going to say

“The police want to come and talk to you” Delia told Cassia. Athena hud her face against her mother.

"Of course they do" She sighed. "They always want to talk to me when he does something." She sighed. "I guess I should tell them what happened?" She hugged her daughter tight

“You should!” Delia said. “Something has to be done. And you’ve got a witness this time! Enid will tell them!”

Cassia nodded. "I guess she will" She agreed. "He's mever been this angry before...but he had been drinking...I could tell."

“Did he hit you?” Delia asked a softly

Delia frowned. “We’ll It’s hardly funny” she said. “Tell the police that. He can get arrested for doing that” she sakd.

Cassia nodded. "It was a second story window." She mumbled. "That's why Enid had to catch me.'

Delia sighed. “We’ll tell the police all of that” she said seriously.

Cassia nodded. "I can't believe this happened. I can't believe I' leaving him."

“It’s good You are” Enid piped up. “He’s awful. You need to get away from him”

Cassia nodded. "I can keep mu salary." She mumbled, s 8f that was the most ansurd thing.

Enid nodded. “It’s yours to begin with” she said. “And now you can keep it”

"Thank you. For your help." She said softly.

“You’re my friend. I want to help you” Enid said seriously

At the same time there was a knock on the door. "Police"

“I’ll get it” Enid said, hobbling back to the door

Cassie stayed still, frozen in fear as they came inside, heading towards her. Athena clung tighter to her and held the baby tightly.

“Are you cassia?” The officer asked her, his voice was soft and kind.

Cassia nodded. "I am." She confirmed. "You wanted to know about my husband.'

“Yes. I heard you were pushed out a window?” The officer said.

The officer nodded, taking notes. “Alright” he said seriously. “We’re you injured?” He asked

Cassia nodded. "Enid too. She tried to catch me." She said. "He...he hurt his niece too. He threw a vase at her head."

The officer nodded. “That warrants an arrest for an assault” he said seriously.

Cassia nodded. She was starting to get qorked up. "I could've died. Falling from the second floor...if not for Enid I could've broken my neck. It's worse than everything else he's ever done."

The officer nodded. “So he’s got a history of abuse?” He asked

She nodded. "Not on the children, but on me." She nodded. "He hits me."

“Often?” The officer ask. “Is It a regular thing?”

Cassie nodded. "Whenever he gets impatient, or we run out of money. Often."

“Does be work?” The officer asked

Cassia shook her head. "Just me. I take the kids with me to work because I don't dare leave them alone with him."

The officer nodded. “So he uses your money?“ he asked

"It's his money. We're married." She said. "And he gets mean when I don't let him have his fun."

The officer frowned. “It doesn’t work that way. You earned the money, and it should be in your name” he said seriously. “What do you mean? What does he do for fun?”

"Everything is in his name. The house, everything." Cassia said. "It has been that way since we got married." She swallowed. "He likes to gamble and drink and...meet other women."

“We’ll as the one who dies the work, you can go to your employer and ask for the money to be transferred to an account in your name” he said.

Cassia nodded. "I'll have to do that...it's in a joint account right now."

“You can do that” the officer agreed. “Do you need to take a moment?” He asked.
