Set in New York city, this roleplay follows the lives of people born with supernatural powers, called the Gifted, living among those who aren't so gifted. This is a roleplay that greatly encourages creative writing as well as creative character design. You shape the world and you create the characters.

Ahh yeah. Well I meant for students living there that like in the X-Men universe they lived there because they literally had no place else to go. Like kids who were kicked out, or homeless and couldn't afford to rent/buy a house. Oh! Sorry I don't think I explained the baby thing too well either. So like. If a kid goes to daycare they're taken most likely by a car right? And while that wouldn't arouse any suspicion at the daycare (though depending on how much the daycare looks into backgrounds

of the parent/s [potentially- im not sure if the academy sets up like, fake backgrounds/ids/birth certificates for people] that could cause a whole 'nother issue [im talking about if they look up parents and they find sketchy backgrounds] but anyway) if someone *coughtheAgencycough* was watching the Academy they might follow the van and it would get out that the kid was Gifted or had a gifted parent. I'm not sure /how/ much of a deal that would be, but considering what I know of the Agency it's not good. I think I'm getting a bit too much into this though- overthinking things. =v=; If someone actually ever makes a character with a kid (I decided not to, but its nice info to know) I suppose this whole hypothetical "the Agency finds out about a Gifted's kid" could be a cool plot. : P : ) And yeah that's what I was thinking. A baby's most likely just going to be a small part of rping w/ an oc, an "accessory" like you said. And uhm, I'm still finishing up my oc & I have to make a blog,,

Well, I'd say that the dorms etc are possibly free. And also it's open to both adults and children so there could even be adults that sponsor kids for them to live there for free or something. So I'd say that yes, there are probably daycare facilities there.

As for Agency members being even near the Academy without someone knowing and kidnapping someone in a stalker van style situation, it'd be unlikely unless there was a super secret spy character infiltrating the school or something. 

Like, 1 out of 100 people is Gifted so it wouldn't be really difficult at all for the Agency to find a gifted person to take interest in. Currently the only really notable Gifted person at the school is Edith Mason and they'd only really be into her since she's documented to have been in the Agency and is now working against it. IDK really!! Things are super open ended on the Agency side and players can take that one in any direction they see fit as long as they don't make it do a 180 and be all for Gifted rights in a single thread or something like that.

Just do what you feel would be alright for the base world we've set up!

Ahh thank you for responding and updating/clarifying those things!! ^u^ I just thought of a few more question too- for people who live at the Academy what happens if they have kids? And I mean someone who lives there like permanently (like a worker/teacher/student/etc) who doesn't have another home where the kid could stay. Is there a service/room set up, or if their kids go to daycare are there any extra protections to prevent it getting out that their parents are (or they may be) Gifted?

Actually I just realized that I'm not sure whether people besides teachers live there permanently! Is it like X-men where students live there, or do they just come there to learn? Or maybe just those who don't have homes live there? : ) Anway, this is my other question I thought up- if babies can live there and may have some interaction w/ other ocs (considering they're a big part of the parent's life/plot) should they just be included in the parent's blog? I don't think there's a need to make them a separate blog considering they're just a baby and won't have as much (if any depending on who rps them/their parent[s]) interaction, but I wanted to make sure. Okay! I think that's all the questions I've thought of for now, hehe. Sorry if this bugs you (guys? Im not sure how many people run it/answer questions). I'm really into worldbuilding and I'm the "planner" or "architect" kind of writer who plans, like, everything out. : P : ) Thank you for your time, have a great day (everyone)!!

There's a dorm set up for the students but I wouldn't say that they have to live there, you know? As for your question about preventing the identity of the babies getting out, I'm not sure that I understand. I thought that it was pretty clear that the school bases itself in the anonymity of its students.

As for making blogs for infants, I wouldn't bother doing that either, tbh. The baby would kind of be like an accessory to the parent, if that makes sense. For a kid like 6 and under that has a parent I wouldn't bother making a blog for them, but I might make one if the kid's an orphan. Blog making and character creation is really in the hands of members. It's really up to you if you want to go through the trouble of making a separate blog or sideblog for the baby.

May I ask about a few things that weren't clarified or even spoken about in the FAQ/Guideline? First, are we allowed to play as students or do they have to be at least graduate age? I know the guideline says members must be 16+ but I wasn't sure if that meant the mun or the oc. Secondly, are characters of non-binary genders allowed? There are tags for female and male ones, but I'm not sure if a nb character just hasn't applied and it wasn't thought about, or if they're like, not allowed. Thanks!

For your first question, of course your characters can be students! They can be any age that you’d like as long as the player themselves is 16 or over. The other admins and I only made older characters is all, that explains our current lack of younger characters. You can be a 10 year old character or they can be 150+ like Edith Mason is! 

For your second question, nonbinary characters are totally welcome! You can make a character of any gender or orientation. In fact, I’ll add a nonbinary tag for right this second. The tag will be nbgifted, nbnon, nbchar. We’d never ever not allow a character to be nonbinary so you don’t have to worry about that!

John Noble has the power of time jumping and knowledge absorption, he as also has a the ability to block psychics. He is forty-four years old and works as a librarian at the Academy for the Gifted. He is currently affiliated with the school.

Powers: John's powers are harder to understand from an outsiders prospective, but he can essentially disappear at the blink of an eye for any amount of time he wishes. During this time, John is in limbo where he experiences time at an advanced speed - like fast forwarding. When he comes back, he appears in the exact same spot he disappeared at. As for knowledge absorption, he simply has to touch a book or a paper and he will know what's inside, this does not mean he will understand it if it's over his intelligence level or in another language. He has the a psychic shield as well, which he uses subconsciously at all times, this power may be tied into his time jumping ability.

Biography:

John Noble grew up in a small town in South Dakota as the only child of two loving parents. Growing up, John found it difficult to make friends with his peers due to gawking and teasing brought on by his dwarfism. Despite the teasing he excelled in academics because books were his only escape, but soon he found that merely touching a book caused him to know everything in it. By the time he was a teenager he couldn't do the one thing that made him happy and he no longer got pleasure from reading books because he didn't want to know the ending before he even began to read.

The constant teasing and staring caused him to grow into an angry teenager and young adult. He was angry at the world for making him the way he is and wished only to be like everyone else.

His time jumping powers manifested during this period and he'd disappear for days, only to reappear as if nothing had happened at all. His parents assumed that he was running away for days at a time until one day they witnessed it happen. Seeing it for themselves was quite a shock for them and they tried their best to prevent him from doing it anymore for fear of endangering their child.

Despite their concerns though, John wanted nothing more than to leave their small town to find a life of his own. He left for college after high school and moved to New York. Ironically, despite the inability to properly read a book, he got a job in a library where he met Edith Mason who offered him work at the Gifted Academy as their librarian. He took up the offer and has been there since.

Bronwyn Banes has the power of teleportation and telekinesis. She is 25 years old and an avid pro-Gifted rights activist. She is a former student of the Academy.

Powers: At first glance, Bronwyn’s powers of teleportation and telekinesis are just that. However, upon closer inspection, her powers are that of specific particle manipulation. To teleport, she dematerializes and rematerializes her atomic structure in one place to another. She can also do this with anything she touches. When broken down, her form looks similar to that of stardust for a fraction of a second.

Biography:

Bronwyn is the youngest of three children and the only daughter. Her powers began to develop as a child when she would play games such as tag or hide-and-seek with her peers. She would go missing for short periods of time and, when her parents finally realized what was happening, they decided to put her enroll her in the Academy to train her powers and be around fellow Gifteds.

Growing up in the Academy allowed Bronwyn to hone her abilities. However, this safe, contained environment did not completely prepare for the backlash against Gifteds that the general public holds. Seeing the amount of discrimination and hatred that Gifteds were receiving made her furious - her friends and mentors were great people with great powers, why should they be treated any differently?

She currently is a very prominent pro-Gifted activist. She tries to act as a mentor and protector for other Gifted members but will act swiftly and harshly to any anti-Gifted sentiments, even if it lands her in even hotter water.

Edith Mason has the powers of life and knowledge absorption, power mimicry. She is one hundred fifty years old and founder of The Academy for the Gifted, a program for Gifted individuals. 

Powers: The power to drain life, mimic powers, and know the history of a person on touch.

Biography:

Edith was born in 1864. She was an orphan at first but got adopted by a young couple living in San Francisco. Her childhood was happy and her parents loved her dearly. The word "Gifted" had yet to be coined and no one dare spoke of those people with abilities. It was just something not spoken of, as a child she didn't even really know what it meant for people to have powers at all.

Until one day when she was 10 years old. She was playing with another little girl from the neighborhood. They skipped down the street holding hands when the other girl suddenly began to grow weak and her hair turned grey. No one knew what to do or what happened to the little girl and no one connected it to Edith until it happened again and again and again. Not always happening to other children but to cats and dogs.

She was sucking the life out of them and making them grow old beyond their years while she herself grew slowly. When she was 15 she looked no older than 12. She began to fear her power and never left the house anymore.

Eventually her parents thought that it might be best to move to another city to start all over, maybe their daughter would begin to come out more and in 1884, when Edith was 20, they did just that. They moved to New York City.

In New York she tried to get over her fears of being around people but with every contact with another person they would age horribly. She was right back where she started, being afraid to be near another person.

Back then there was no help for people like her. There weren't any places for her to go and people only spoke of powers in whispers.

Since she was gifted and cursed with youth, she began to spend time in her seclusion reading books about powers and convincing her father to buy mice for her to practice her powers on, to practice not using her powers, that is.

By 1904, when she was 40 years old but looked no older than 25, she had control of herself. She found a new confidence and began going out like every other normal person.

By 1906 she even met a man named Jason who she would marry later that year. While it was more a marriage of "I ought to" rather than "I love him" she did find herself happy with him and they shared many years together. They even had children. Her son, Mark, was born in 1910, followed a year later by a girl she named Andrea.

Her children never showed any signs of having abilities and they grew up happy and healthy. By 1931 both of the children were out of the house, Mark was joining the navy and Andrea was marrying her high school sweetheart.

Her life on the other hand grew dull and boring. She no longer felt a thing for her husband and was wondering if she had ever really loved him at all. In the summer of 1932 she did something unheard of at the time, she left him. Her children resented the idea and none of them spoke to her for several years.

During the radio silence between her and her family, she volunteered for a government study on people with powers. Her power got recorded and tested on different species of animals. Sure, she felt badly for the animals involved but if it was for the greater good of understanding then it was a small sacrifice to make.

By 1940 she had joined a government body known as FAPC. She went to Germany on missions that were kept so secret that even today they are yet to be disclosed to the public. And by the time World War 2 was over, she had done many assignments that were, at the time, for the good of everyone. She came back looking younger than when she left.

She spent the 50's and 60's continuing to work for the Agency while being sure to spend time with her children and grandchildren. But in 1970 everything changed, she discovered a side of the Agency that she didn't agree with. They were attempting to use the powers of gifted people for nefarious purposes in the name of research.

She wholeheartedly disagreed with experimenting on gifted people so she left, convincing many others to leave as well. She spent much of the 70's and 80's advocating for public education on people with abilities and she even coined the word Gifted for the first time during that part of her life and opened up schools to teach gifted individuals how to use their powers correctly.

The 1990's were a busy time in her life. Between educating the public and spending time with her now elderly children, she didn't have much time for herself.

But in 1995, she took her position as curator of the New York Academy for the Gifted and has retained the position ever since.

Julian Rivera hasthe power of electromagnetism. He is a thirty three year old former police officer in the New York Police Department. He is currently aligned with the Civilians.

Powers: Julian can create and manipulate large quantities of strong of electromagnetic shields. These shields are strong enough to reflect bullets and other projectiles and powerful enough to seriously electrocute and stun oncoming enemies.

Biography:

Julian was the younger of two sons born to the Riveras, a second generation Brazil-American couple. He developed his powers as a teenager and, while his parents were supportive of his powers, they feared for their sons safety coming out as Gifted. He was forced to quit his local basketball team and channeled his energies into solo sports and activities yet maintained some closer interpersonal relationships.

He grew to become a capable police officer in the NYPD and became best friends with his partner, Eric Wade. During a robbery, Julian was forced to use his powers to save civilians, which lead to the force finding out about his powers. He was warned by the higher ups not to use his powers again as many of the police officers were biased against Gifteds. Eric, however, encouraged him to use it if in danger.

A year later, another situation involving a rogue Gifted arose where Julian tried to use his shield to protect his partner from an onslaught of projectiles. However, Eric’s own bullets ricocheted off of Julian’s shield and killed him instantly. Julian was dismissed from the NYPD and is currently employed as a night guard for a bank. He has lost many friends due to the incident and suffers occasional bouts of extreme stress and depression.

Roxanne "Roxy" Tomas has the powers of ice and regeneration. She is thirty-eight years old and works as a nurse. She aligns with the Civilians.

Powers: Ice related powers, from ice breath to ice touch and ice spears. Can turn into transparent ice. In ice form she can regenerate when injured. 

Biography:

Roxy grew up in the inner city of Chicago with two poor immigrant Chinese parents gifted with powers over water. Her small family moved from house to house and apartment to apartment for most of her childhood. She didn't have much in the way of entertainment such as toys or even a television but she found ways to keep busy through reading and staying inside to play in her imaginative worlds alone. Roxy never grew close to children her own age and never had many friends, and those who tried to get close were often either shut out or put off by her personality.

If there was ever one single event that marked a change in her childhood, it would be the day that she killed the class rabbit in 5th grade. She froze it to death with an icy touch. Roxy is a a sociopath, or at least has those tendencies according to the therapist assigned to her by the school after the killing. Roxy did her best to control her aggressiveness and her ice powers, but when she was alone the thoughts always came to her and her powers grew stronger.

Her teen life was very controlled by her parents. Roxy was repressed and developed an obsessive need to be as "normal" as possible, so to do so, she joined school activities and attended parties and never showed her powers to anybody. This behavior of outward normalcy took over her life. She did everything that she perceived as good, including becoming a nurse even though she went to school long enough to become a doctor. She made a nice life for herself, she moved into a nice house with an actual white picket fence though she was incredibly unhappy.

Through most of her adult life, she has been accompanied by her outlandish husband, Eli. With his encouragement, Roxy's powers have developed and has become incredibly powerful.

Elijah "Eli" Tomas has the powers of werewolf transformation and enhanced strength and senses with the ability to communicate with animals. He is forty years old and aligns with the Civilians.

Powers: Transforms into a large werewolf-like creature. Both in and out of beast form, he has enhanced strength and senses such and super hearing and smell. He also has the ability to communicate with animals.

Biography:

Eli grew up in a trailer park on the outskirts of Las Vegas. With his mother being an alcoholic and with his father absent, his upbringing wasn't ideal. From a young age he got into fights and did petty crime for money, using his power to take advantage of people.

As he got older his fights got worse and so did the crime. He dropped out of school in the 7th grade and began a life of criminal activity with a small gang of other displaced youth, running drugs and beating people to a pulp wasn't an uncommon task.

When he was 17 he finally ran away from the trailer park and his unloving mother. He wandered the country, never staying more than a year or two in one place until he met his wife, Roxy, whom he fell head over heels for the second he met her.

In an attempt to get straight laced Roxanne to like him, he stopped doing crime and got more legitimate employment. Soon they married and have been living happily in New York for the last ten years.
