he needs to get moving. being idle has never worked out well and there’s too much to do. elsie and steven are in danger. fuck if he’s ready for it. that’s not what marc does. he keeps them moving. keeps them alive. hell, he would die if it was possible to do without killing steven at the same time. his side is still sluggishly bleeding through the makeshift shirt bandage and despite everything marc wants steven co-fronting just so he can be sure he’s alright. elsie’s hands steady the tired ex-merc and he gives her a barely there nod of thanks. “ i remember a house nearby. we can hide out there. wait out...this shit. ”

after khonshu steven had hoped his life would become boring and mundane. the most exciting thing being date night with elsie or an answer on pointless being, well, POINTLESS. but it seems that the world of avatars wasn’t done with them yet. he knows it isn’t marc’s doing. marc would tell him and he didn’t want anything to do with the old bird any more. so it’s the sarcophagus they aren’t talking about that’s winded him up in some swedish hospital feeling like he’s full of lead that is in reality morphine.
the tears are a weird sensation when he feels oddly numb but it draws his attention. “elsie? you alright, love?”

Though Marc doesn’t argue against the weak excuse, he does give him a disbelieving look⏤ nice try Steven but that’s not gonna fly with him. Brows furrow as gaze turns to the sand, not quite connecting it to the Duat until the other explains it. Ah. He hadn’t really thought about that, since it hadn’t really bothered him, but he hadn’t been in the sand for as long as Steven had.
❝ Do you want me to clean it up for you? ❞ He offers, fine with doing it himself if Steven couldn’t. They still had the problem of wandering off occasionally with no memory of how they got there but there were other ways to track if they’ve been out or not. Not that it’d stopped him from resetting everything.
steven isn’t a good liar. his anxiety and general honest disposition gives him away. the wringing of his hands and panic tends to underline it even more when he attempts it. it also is a weird thing to be lying to your alter who knows you a lot better than you know yourself. it is a stupid thing, really. to be scared of sand. or, feel uncomfortable when it touches his foot. but it takes him back to stumbling after the boat and feeling the clawing nature of turning into a lost soul.
“uh, maybe? i mean, you did save me from the duat. could save me from the cleaning. i’ll make dinner as payment?” he just hopes it isn’t going to become a thing that he’s becoming terrified of the one thing that has provided him joy all his life. egypt has been his whole world. someday, he’ll need to deal with it. join the long line of nhs patients waiting for therapy. if marc lets them, that is.
