Bartimaeus: A person in power slowly realises he's part of a corrupted system and sacrifices himself to save what deserves to be saved as the government blows up.

Lockwood and co: Members of a company adjacent to people in power struggle to remain independent as corruption grows, end up as outcasts blowing up the government.

Scarlett and Browne: Outcasts are pushed to become criminals and blow up the government.

Stroud's next series probably: Terrorists immediately blow up the government.

#it’s so tasty and it comes in so many flavors#does the character self-loathe and feel anguished by what others intended as an act of forgiveness and grace?#does the character know they need to change but sort of madly wish they could trade the unceasing exhausting improvement journey#for a flash bang of slate-clearing repentance so they don’t have to *think* about it anymore?#is is a creeping horror as the character realizes no one is going to punish them because everyone else still thinks what they did was okay?#does the character have to live the rest of their life just feeling ever so slightly untrusted by everyone with no way to stop it?#sorry for leaving pretentious tags on tumblr dot com it will happen again

Lockwood and Co. at a bar is hilarious to me. Lockwood is ignoring like 4 interested women to get a first hand lesson on how to bartend. Lucy is hiding in the corner on her umpteenth drink trying not to laugh at pet decapitated head bullying everyone in their vicinity. George is critiquing their shitty bar food and heckling Lockwood. Kipps is drunk and absolutely breaking it Down on the dance floor. He will not remember it but the entire bar will. Holly is on her second champagne glass boring three people to death while ranting about a filing system because she’s too tipsy to realize no one cares. I love them.
