I haven’t used this account in forever, but I’m worried about my fish. can you help me? I’m very stressed. I thought she was constipated but now I think she’s egg bound and it’s very severe. I guess I’m going to give her a salt bath?? I think she’s dying I’m very stressed! Please get this to people who can help.

fish update: I’m going to fast her for a while and hope it’s constipation, since that’s what her symptoms seem to suggest. I’ll keep you updated as to if her stomach swelling goes down. Her name is Cathy. Keep us in your hearts and minds and prayers please.

hey quick question for bettablr, does anyone keep snails in their betta tanks. if so what’s the size of your tank, what food do you give, and how has it been working for you?

I’ve had snails in my betta tanks before! Some bettas will nip at their antennas so you’ll have to watch for that and remove the snail as needed. Snails also create a lot of poop so be prepared to have substrate covered in a layer of poop between your water changes.

I’d suggest 1 nerite for a 5 gallon, 2 for a 10 or just 1 mystery snail. I’ve noticed that mystery snails are more likely to get nipped because their antennas are much more eye catching as they move them around a lot!

I’ve also got a snail! It’s a 20 gallon tank and he’s a zebra! He’s just eatin the algae :)

Bettas are intelligent fish and will often become bored, especially in a small tank. But there are a lot of enriching things you can do to combat this. A few ideas you can swap out every few days:

Draw pictures on their tank with dry-erase markers for them to investigate

Put colored sticky notes on their tank in different positions

Put a clean ping-pong ball in their tank for them to push around

Rearrange their decor every week or so

Shine a laser pointer into their tank for them to chase

Show them a mirror for a few minutes every day

Give them living food to hunt down, such as live brine shrimp, daphnia, or wingless fruit flies

Teach them tricks!

ATTENTION FISHBLR/BETTABLR

Petco is now advertising for betta soroties and will have a tank devoted to female bettas. This highly debated housing and treatment of female splendens is, in my opinion, unethical and abusive.

I ask of you guys to not lash out, and protest petco. Instead inform and teach people the proper treatment of bettas and explain that sororities are a very stressful environment and usually end with the death of many fish.

Please spread the word so we may educate those on proper care of bettas!
