Hi everyone! My nameās Abby and Iām currently seventeen years old. I love the Harry Potter series with my whole heart, Iām a Gryffindor and my favourite character is Ginny! I feel a connection to Ginny in ways which I havenāt been able to find in any other book character Iāve ever read about. It isnāt only appearances that I see the similarities - both red headed and fair - but in personalities and personal development. In the beginning of the series, we see Ginny as this shy ten year old girl who has a crush on the boy who lived. Sheās quiet but has a lot to offer, often turning scarlet when being addressed. The next year sheās eleven and starting school; terrified and curious all at once. Learning many lessons from that fateful year - her life will never be the same. Being possessed by Lord Voldemort all year causes her to be more alert of anything that thinks for itself but you canāt see its brain. In her second year, she encounters dementors and her fears of He Who Must Not Be Named return. Sheās constantly trying harder to come out of her shell and sheās making progress. Itās her third year and Ginnyās feeling all types of excited; the Quidditch World Cup happens and itās an occasion sheāll never forget. The excitement of Quidditch turns dark and the death eaters invade. Sheās shocked but she remains brave. Then she sees the boy she cares for constantly put his life in danger for the Triwizard Tournament until the moment when appears with Cedric Diggoryās body. Life drastically takes a turn for the worse. See witnesses Harry become so fragile that he lashes out and and takes full responsibility of shouldering his emotions - his survivors guilt. The next year arrives, she decides that she canāt wait for Harry to realise how great she is, so instead she moves on with her life. She dates Michael Corner and heās nice enough. She grows more comfortable around Harry and she feels the chains around her release themselves. She joins the DA, even coming up with the name of Dumbledoreās Army. She feels free to express herself. She lets herself go and be her true self thanks to Hermioneās advice, not worrying about what others think. Playing quidditch with her brothers and laughing more than ever. Standing side by side with her brother and her friends, she battles death eaters in the Ministry of Magic, trying to ignore the fact that she broke her ankle in the process. Then finally, everyone believes Harry. The world knows the truth. Itās her fifth year and sheās more popular than ever. Her confidence has grown and sheās becoming the woman sheās meant to be. She becomes a quidditch star and begins to date Dean. Her world grows darker with the prospect of the return of Voldemort. But there is always light in the darkness. It took a few years but Harry has finally come to his senses and realised the person who understands him and believes in him above others is her. The time they spend together is perfect and limited before tragedy strikes and she is separated from the boy she loves.
Her Mum and Dad are trying their best to keep their family together. They know that their son and his two best friends are going to leave. Ginny knows they canāt keep them all together, their safety becomes more and more compromised. So instead, she returns to school for the sixth time and with a fire lit beneath her that reflects her rage. The school is run by Snape, evil converges on them. In a spur of rebellion, her and her friends attempt to steal back the Sword of Godric Gryffindor to no avail. Yet she battles on. She knows the fight is soon to come, she can feel it, everyone can feel it. And then when everything seems dark, there he is, that light in the darkness. Harry, Ron and Hermione are back and itās go time. This time is the last time that the death eaters and Voldemort will spread their darkness over the world. When the Order arrives, she is told to stay and hide, not fight. She breaks the rules again and duels against the death eaters. But adrenaline can never over power the immense sadness of losing family, a brother, a friend, a mentor. But thereās not enough time to process everything. And then there he is, being carried in Hagrids arms, so quiet as if asleep but she knows him to be dead. The pain is unbearable as she screams at Voldemort, cursing him for taking away a piece of her heart.
Then he wakes. Ginny fights like sheās never fought before. The fire coursing through her veins is only stemmed by the crashing of Harry lips on hers, the end has finally come. Forever with him begins now. Times passes by, but time is cruel and feels no pain. She sheds so many tears that she feels like she is drained forever. So many of her loved ones are gone. The years go by and sheās married to the boy, the man she loves. Three children, countless in-laws and nieces and nephews. She is happy.
So it is weird in someways that I see myself so clearly as Ginny. Of course thereās points of her story that are not going to be the same as mine, thatās a given, but I feel myself sharing a lot of the same journey as Ginny. I feel like I have developed from this shy person who has a lot to offer into this young woman whoās full of love and vivacity. Not even the journey and looks make me relate to Ginny but also the personality. The pair of us wouldāve either been the fiercest competitors or the greatest of friends, or even both. I have grown with Ginny in more ways than one which makes her have such a special place in my heart. I feel at times that I am Ginny and if I feel lost I look towards what she perhaps wouldāve done in my situation. This is very long, I hardly expect anyone to ever read all the way down here. But thatās okay. Iām excited at the idea of making this blog and am already making ideas in my mind of whatās to come. ā”ļø
