This is the great thing about him, seriously. Even as I saw the Oscar pics and how fantastic he looked in the suit, I knew Dorkerer would leak out and show it’s still the same ol’ Rog. (It happened during the tequila clip, before he took it. That sorta nervous, goofy laugh, hehehehe.)
Yes, he’s well-known all over the world. But he doesn’t assume that you know who he is (unless it’s a big thing or an event for him). There are videos where he’s introducing himself to people/interviewers just as “Hi, I’m Roger.”
Yeah, he’s got friends who are famous. He’s got friends who aren’t. From what I see, he doesn’t treat them differently.
Yeah, he has a shit ton of money and that, plus his status, hasn’t changed who he is. Case in point, there was another Oscars interviewer who asked if Roger had seen any of the movies nominated; Roger said no. He listed the reasons why and that, to me, stated his priorities. Dad, husband, tennis player.
Trust me, I don’t presume to know EVERYTHING about this guy, or that he’s the most perfect human on this Earth, or lives the perfect life and can never do any wrong – but I am in awe of how humanly great he is. A man not of irony, but balance.
Someone who is blessed with tennis talent but works hard for it too – and credits other players for their game and knows people will break his records. Someone who is still humble and down to Earth but is also a straight BO$$. Someone who tries to do good with his fame and fortune – his charity – and still takes his family to fantastic getaways in the Maldives. Someone who has met all sorts of fancy people, but married and stayed true to the same amazing, REAL woman for more than 15 years.
Someone known for his kindness and simple gestures, but also someone who will sass you if you’re overstepping boundaries.
So, to me, this is the only way he makes sense. Someone completely nerd buckets, but also super suave.
