What if in the 2012 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles we had Karai instead of April?
Imagine: Kirby O'Neil was once able to communicate with another life form. He and Prime Krang built a trusting relationship based on the exchange of knowledge, but at some point, Kirby's interests changed, he met his love and decided to start a family. Krang didn't like this at all and not only killed Kirby's wife, but also recruited his daughter. Kirby escaped and began conducting his underground experiments, trying to find a way to counter Krang.
There are difficulties further, because, yes, in the comics there were tests of the mutagen on turtles, but in Kirby’s conditions, he would have taken more accessible animals, like rats. But let's pretend he needed something cleaner than sewer rats, so still turtles.
So, the turtles mutate (maybe Kirby won't even have to) and Kirby either raises them as weapons against Krang or as his own children, teaching them science. In the second case, we get teenage mutant scientist turtles.
I am also sure that Splinter's DNA did not affect the turtles' character in any way, only their human-likeness (he did not inject his blood into them, he only touched them). Kirby's DNA touch will not have much of an impact on the turtles' appearance or character; they will be primarily influenced by Kirby's upbringing.
Okay, so there's less plot and more roles. Since I love Leorai, and Donnie was the smartest to begin with, he's now the leader, like Leonardo (Leonardo is taking Donnie's place, obviously). Also, since Karai is now April, Casey Jones is, get ready...Dr. Chaplin! Seriously, does anyone remember this cutie? And I guess if Raph was friends with Casey, then Mikey will probably be friends with Chaplin. By the way, considering that April in the original was once kidnapped by the Krang and experimented on, the same thing happened with Karai, only she was kidnapped by the Foot Clan (they are now instead of the Krang). Only instead of a telepath, Karai is a badass fighter and barely knows it.
In general, there is a lot to discuss here, and there are many inaccuracies in my version, but that’s all I wanted to tell you right now. Should I draw this? Redraw a few frames from the original to fit my version? Perhaps. Anyway, thanks for your attention.
