I think some Kate fans have to understand that this is probably just going to be what Kate’s career is for the foreseeable future. Some coaches will appreciate what she brings and give her chances to play, while others will probably think she’s too streaky of a shooter to get good minutes, etc.
with respect I disagree. Kate is only in her third year and this year has been a bit of a write off for her. So she’s had 2 years of experience really. That’s not a lot. There are a lot of good role players in the league and they have been invaluable to the teams they are on (AC, Cloud, Lexie hull) and they took time to develop into what they are. There are also good shooters in the league who shot badly their first couple of years (hull, Cunningham, mabrey, Hilmon, even VB). Coaches know this. They know that development takes time. I think it actually comes down to whether a coach is willing to develop their players or not. Look at Cheryl Reeve, Becky Hammon, Karl smesko and Sydney Johnson- they’ve all developed their talent and there’s a clear difference when some of those players then move to different teams. Roberts and the sparks just aren’t interested in developing talent and the fact they cut so many young players and don’t play them is a clear sign of that. I think kate will be stuck on the bench until she gets a coach willing to actually invest in her.
Totally see your points! Though I actually think you're kind of agreeing with the points the anon made....Kate needs the right coach in order to develop properly. If she doesn't have the right coach, she's probably not going to play much because her game isn't necessarily undeniable (yet). I know this year has been weird, but she's going into her fourth year next year, so teams may have less of a desire to wait for her to develop, and she'll probably have to do a majority of that during the off-season. We'll just have to hope the Sparks get a better coach next year!
