(plvpw spoilers ahead)
crying over the stupid fucking post that came up in my onedrive memories today
thank you ash. very cool ash.
i have to go to bed now because if i stay up to finish the game i just won't sleep tonight and my circadian rhythm is fucked enough as it is but ohhhhhhhhhhhhh my fucking god. holy shit this game. im just. god
im super close to the end of plvpw and there's a few big pieces left that still have to slot into place so what im going to say now might not end up being entirely accurate but im fucking reeling. big big massive spoilers below
magic doesn't exist (except for that it maybe does, im still unclear on this) except as a concept for creating a scapegoat for the town's troubles and in order to legitimize the devious purposes of this scapegoat random women are designated against their will as witches and have to live in fear of being found out for what they are lest they be put to death, and then when they ARE inevitably found out, because they get put under so much stress they can't help retaliating with the one force that empowers them, their deaths are faked for the benefit of the townsfolk while in reality their identities get erased and they're carted off to the forced labour camp where they are employed once again against their will to facilitate the insane and convoluted theatrics that appear as magic to the eyes of the townsfolk that perpetuates the stories of the witches and keeps their fellow arbitrarily stigmatized women subjugated. and if they do Forced Labour Camp good enough their reward is returning to the town as a whole new person. fucked up fucked up fucked up SO unbelievably fucked up. i think this guy just hates women
in retrospect the game opening with layton explaining witch trials to luke but kind of skirting the gendered violence aspect by just saying "of course, witches don't really exist" and not elaborating any further is really really goddamn funny knowing the kid is on the verge of getting a crash course in the whole fucking thing

THIS GAME IS INSANE
i really miss hxh. like i really miss it. i've been putting off starting greed island because i want to stretch this out as long as i can but i watched the first episode today and ow. oh my god. i miss them
so was anyone going to tell me that bushiroad has been operating a hxh mobile game for the past two years or was i just supposed to find that out myself from kudoharu tweeting about being on an upcoming informational broadcast
this whole game i've been sitting here like "it's so funny that they called it professor layton *versus* phoenix wright when they're mostly just being very friendly and cooperative in helping each other solve the mystery they're all entangled in. it's a meta question about puzzle-solving ideology against legal debate ideology i guess lol" but now that the final trial is really gearing up and starting to take shape i'm just sitting here like ohhhhhh my god. for as much as i've seen people talk about how much they enjoyed this game over the years i'm so glad none of them ever discussed what actually happens in it (or, if they did, that it slid off my brain before i could absorb it) because it's been so fun to take this whole ride entirely blind 😭😭
like i cannot stress enough either how when it comes to ace attorney this is really and truly a novel experience for me compared to my experience with basically every other game in the series, because i went into all of them equipped with some knowledge of the twists and main character arcs both from being exposed to the fandom pre: playing anything at all (aside from seeing gameplay of the first couple cases of the first game) and reading fic as soon as i could get my grubby little hands on it, which is to say before i'd even started aa4. actually i might not have even finished the third game yet. what was wrong with me. i didn't even know there were witches and magic in this one. i didn't even know they get isekai'd. i thought london was just supposed to be like that in their world and can you blame me? when this is the same series that gave us japanifornia? eat your hamburgers, apollo

i didn't pay much attention to alaira's voice before but when she showed up in this week's witch hat episode i was sitting there like "wow she sounds a LOT like juri, but there's no way it's mitsuishi kotono, is it?" and then when it got to the credits it was like nope yeah that's really her. and then i left the episode paused on the credits while i took my dishes to the kitchen and when i came back i read through the rest of the supporting cast and got taken out a second time by discovering that mariya ise voiced richeh's older brother. #okay. i didn't even clock it was her because i was listening without earbuds in and the volume turned down a little lmao
stupid fucking thing i just spent two and half hours drawing <3
btw
normally i don't give a fuck about magigirls' hetero love interests but you have to understand. you Must understand. fakir has the sauce
(context: ahiru is doing the mime for "i love you" here to show fakir what mytho did in class earlier before passing out)
