I love the idea of this blog, but clearly, I had no idea how to run it in a way to keep people interested. Even when I asked for suggestions, I didn’t really get any, and when I didn’t change things over for the month it didn’t seem to bother anyone. 

So as much as I love the idea, and as much as I wanted it to work, I have to let it go. I’ll leave it up, and if someone wants to take it over and actually make it work, just explain to me how to transfer the whole thing over to you and all that and I’ll do it.

With the only feedback I got about how to improve right now being to change the style of prompts, I am now opening that up to you. I’m not sure how to design inspiration/prompts that are accessible to all types of fanwork. So where we are about to change months and we need a new set...please send in your suggestions! I want the blog to be active and grow and the only way that will happen is to get more participation so please, send in the sort of prompts you would like to see, and I’ll try to curate the suggestions and make the coming month more exciting for everyone!

I think the prompts are a little bit too vague and hard to get inspired by. They're a bit like "how do I make something for that??". No offence of course, & I love the idea of your blog btw too

No offense taken! I asked because I’m trying to figure out how to get more people involved. I think I’m personally struggling with coming up with prompts because I don’t want them to be so specific that they make it harder for one sort of fanwork to participate over another (with more specific things, what works for a fic, might not work for a gifset, might not work for a photo edit, etc...) but I am definitely open to suggestions as to how to better navigate that.

Quick Question

Hey everyone! 

So we’re still a growing blog, and obviously everyone has their real life commitments and all of that, but this has been a very quiet month in terms of fanworks and I just want to be sure that it’s not because of any confusion about what needs to be done to be reblogged, or if the prompts/inspirations aren’t really doing it for everyone.

I’ve been trying to pick prompts that are vague enough that they can be used to inspire anything, from fic to art to playlists and anything in between, to include the largest number of people and to encourage the most creation possible. But please let me know, am I going too vague? Are the prompts/inspirations just not super…inspiring?

What can I do that might make participation a bit easier and to get more people involved? Please let me know!

To celebrate our first full month, we’ll be celebrating the main character of Girl Meets World, Ms. Riley Matthews! Any fanworks that you create should heavily feature her, and they should also incorporate at least one of the following pieces of inspiration:

Life’s a Happy Song

Living up to Expectations

As a reminder, you can produce any sort of fan work you like, from fic to art to anything in between, as long as it’s inspired by one of the above and as long as you remember to add a blurb about your non-profit of choice. There’s no time limit–these inspirations will run until the end of the month–and you can make as many works as you like, even for the same inspiration. 

Just remember to tag everything #gmgivingback!

Riley Matthews’ Beginnings

This was made to celebrate the theme of beginnings for this month’s @girlmeetsgivingback inspirations, and the charity I’d like to share is the Population Media Center. The Population Media Center is a non-profit, international NGO that produces soap opera style serial dramas that are written to turn their characters into role models and promote positive behavioral changes in regards to issues such as gender equality, global population, and environmental protection . They also work to employ local writers and producers in the areas where they’re trying to affect change. The Population Media Center takes a unique approach that acknowledges the power of the media we take in and uses that power for good.

my charity for this month is the WWF. they’re a wonderful organisation that help protect endangered species, and give animals a chance to survive. their mission is to stop the degradation of the planet’s environment, and to build a future where people and nature live in harmony. they do truly great things for the earth, and although a big charity, they still need as many people as possible to help them out in order to make their goal a reality.

As you’re all aware, there have been a lot of global natural disasters lately, and we here at Girl Meets Giving Back just wanted to take a moment to pass on our thoughts that every one of you is safe, and to link to a few charities that are dedicated to helping out areas affected by these kinds of events. 

All of the charities below are rated four stars on charitynavigator.org, or have a grade of A on charitywatch.org, meaning that they’re transparent and accountable for how they use donations. 

MedShare: A humanitarian aid organization that sources and delivers surplus medical supplies to areas in need around the globe.

International Relief Teams: An international humanitarian aid organization that provides health and other supportive services to victims of disaster, poverty, and neglect. 

International Medical Corps: A team of global first responders. They deliver emergency services to those affected by conflict, natural disaster, and disease.

All Hands Volunteers: An organization that engages volunteers to help global communities affected by natural disaster clean up and rebuild.

hi! i'm making a couple of different edits for the september prompt, they're linked and kind of like a series, so i was wondering if i need to put the blurb about the charity on all three of them, or if just the first one will be okay?

I would say you don’t have to do the full blurb if you’ve already done it on one post, but maybe link back to it in case people didn’t see the first post? Just something along the lines of “the charity I’m supporting this month is x, you can read more about them here” or something like that.

my chosen charity for august is the NAS (National Autistic Society), a U.K. based charity that helps autistic people and their families. they’ve helped me a lot through their youth groups, where i got to meet and hang out with other autistic people my age. they also help the families of autistic people a lot, and provide many different services for the autistic community.

This was made to celebrate the theme of friendship for this month’s @girlmeetsgivingback inspirations, and the charity I’d like to share is Camp Sunshine! Camp Sunshine is a year-round, camp-style retreat for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families. They work to provide these families with a vacation away from their illnesses, giving them time to relax, heal, and have new experiences that they would be otherwise unable to get, all at zero cost to the families.
