    WELCOME TO MYSTIC FALLS ,   VIRGINIA ! 

Years after her mother’s death ,    Bridget uncovers letters from her grandmother hidden under her father’s bed.     Furious with her father from holding her and Perry back from her mother’s side of the family ,    Bridget packs her back and runs off to    Mystic Falls ,   Virginia    in an attempt to get closer to her grandmother and learn more about the town where her mother grew up.     Over the course of a wild summer ,   Bridget uncovers secrets long buried. 

Marly Randolph was born and raised in Mystic Falls.     She was once a sweetheart of the town and best friends with Liz Forbes.      She met Franz Freeland in her college years when he was a professor at Whitmore.       Both her mother and the school didn’t approve of their eventual engagement ,   and the two relocated to Maryland.

In the years before her death ,   Marly had occasionally come back to town with Bridget and her twin ,   Perry during periods where Franz was busy and Marly’s mental health was on a decline.     But after Marly’s death ,   Franz cut off ties from the Randolphs.

Upon moving in with her grandmother ,   Greta ,   and staying in her mother’s old room ,   Bridget uncovers her mother’s high school diaries.    As she gets closer to the people of the town ,   and discovers the supernatural ,   she learns that her mother knew of them ,   too.     And soon she begins to form a haunting hypothesis   :    HER MOTHER MAY STILL BE ALIVE ,   AFTER ALL    –––    just not amongst the   living .

Bridget returns to Mystic Fall every summer in high school ,    eventually attending Whitmore for college.   

TIMELINE NOTES   :     Bridget eventually learns that any hope of her mother still being alive were all false flags.      She isn’t quite a hunter ,   but does know how to defend herself.      She    may    also become a vampire accidentally some time in college.
