types of guys there aren't enough of in horror for me:
- guy who says "i'm going to fucking kill myself" every 5 minutes, not out of any genuine desire to die but as a means of stress relief
- guy whose terror rapidly evolves into white-hot rage and culminates in them stumbling around covered in blood clutching an improvised weapon and screaming obscenities at the universe and everything in it for placing them in this situation ("I'M EXHAUSTED AND FILTHY AND I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH OF THIS IS MY OWN BLOOD AND I FEEL SICK, OH MY GOD I THINK I'M GONNA BE SICK. WHY ME? WHAT THE FUCK DID I DO TO DESERVE THIS?! WHAT HORRIFIC CRIME OF EXISTENCE DID I COMMIT THAT COSMICALLY SCREWED ME OVER IN THE KARMA DEPARTMENT?!?!?! I FUCKING HATE THIS SO FUCKING MUCH OH MY FUCKING GOD, I WISH I WAS DEAD, BUT NOOOOOO I HAVE TO STAY ALIVE AND KILL THIS STUPID FUCKING MURDERER BECAUSE EVERYONE ELSE BEAT ME TO IT, GOD FUCKING DAMNIT. SHIT." *wordless blood-curdling scream that breaks off into angry sobbing and retching*)
- guy who straight up just doesn't know what's going on and never finds out

Nightmare on Elm Street was crowdfunded. Texas Chainsaw Massacre was a money laundering scheme. we should go back to funding horror movies this way big budgets are doing nothing for them
“This horror book is problematic” “horror movie has a problematic scene” this cannot be how we talk about horror I refuse to let people have this be how horror is talked about
Ask yourself some questions: Is the scene/relationship/theme supposed to be horrifying? Where does the horror come from in the story? Who’s point of view is the story from? Is the thing you are vaguely calling “problematic” part of the horror or is it genuinely something that should be critiqued? Why are you personally picking up this horror story? Can you personally handle it if every story isn’t a morality play?
So, so much horror is about exploring real world anxieties (personal, communal, social) through a supernatural lens. And your deeply buried fears and societal anxieties have no obligation to be unproblematic. That's the genre. And while it can and should be *part* of an analysis, it really shouldn't be ALL of it.

Jennifer’s Body (2009) dir. Karyn Kusama
not to sound pretentious but it makes me kinda sad when i see people dismissing body horror as just "eyes (or maybe teeth if you're feeling creative) in places where eyes shouldn't be" because it has soooooo much more potential than that. like what about extra body parts, multiple limbs or even heads. fusions. splices. chimeras. grotesque transformations. corruption and infection that gradually spreads and mutates the body until it can no longer be concealed. parasites that change their host's behavior and even appearance. possession. the undead and the reanimated corpse. come ON people!!!
