Okay . Soo, Y/N has a crush on the popular guy Harry, but she doesn't show it. One day she gets a text from him and they start talking and she falls in love with him and after talking to him in person one day, she realises that he doesn't even know her and she finds out that it was one of her classmates who did this and they make a joke out of her. You can decide how it should go but it'd be good you could end it in fluff.
ok psychopath KLJSDKLAD its gonna be a bit long, but here we go. tw: some fucked up shit!!
;
College was a really hard place to fit into. Y/N was a freshman, and it was hard to settle into. Her roommates were assholes, which sucked because she was hoping that she could have at least some friends since all of her friends were in another state.
She mostly just kept to herself. If she couldn't find friends, the most she could do was focus on school, right? Despite her mental health declining, her grades were in the ups.
Settling in was weird. She was seeing a lot of new faces. Specifically a man named Harry who shared the same math class as her. It was the only class they had together, and she always made sure to sit a few rows behind him. She could tell he was the popular kind of guy. Whenever she would see him in the cafe, he was surrounded by his friends who--well--acted like children. She wondered if he was the same way.
But she had a crush on him, even if it wasn't obvious. She never went out of her way to tell him, or really anybody. The only people she had told was her friends back home. Some of her classmates had caught her staring at Harry, and would always poke fun, but Harry never noticed.
She was thankful for that, at the least.
One day when she was going back to her dorm, she had received a text from an unknown number.
"Hey."
She frowned. Could this be the wrong number? She doesn't remember giving her number out to anyone.
"Hi. Who is this?" She texted back.
She sat her phone down onto the bed, letting her backpack fall off of her shoulders to release the tension on her spine. A sigh left her lips as she wondered to her closet where her clothes were.
Buzz, buzz.
Her eyes went back to the phone, and quickly grabbed it. It was embarrassing how fast she was to pick her phone up, but nobody ever texted her and she was sort of hoping that this could be a new friend.
"It's Harry. I'm in your maths class. This is Y/N, right?"
Her eyes widened. How did he get her number? With sweaty palms, she threw her phone onto the bed as her heart thumped in her chest. Her mind was running through all possibilities. There's no way that he could have her number--nobody on campus has her number.
Unless...
"Oh? Hi. Did you need something?" She texted back frantically, biting on her lip as she stared down at the screen. She never left the texts, or shut the phone off. She watched as the three dots trilled across the screen to let her know that he was texting back.
"Sorry to bother you, I got your number from Melissa. I just been noticing you and haven't had time to say hi. So...hi. :)"
Excitement was an understatement. She couldn't believe that Harry had noticed her. She had never seen Harry look at her at all, but maybe it was only when she wasn't paying attention. Nonetheless, she took the opportunity and held it like her life depended on it.
Throughout the following weeks, they texted every single day and night. Harry was a smooth talker. Even if he didn't mean to be, her heart fluttered at some of the things that he would text her.
"Nice shirt today." He would text her. "You look pretty :)"
"Thank you! You looked nice today too. :)"
When she went to math class one day, she smiled and waved at him. Harry waved back shyly with a lopsided smile and continued to do his work. She was bashful. She didn't know how to approach him, or how to talk to him in real life. They had been texting for so long that she felt comfortable with just that.
One night, though, she got a text that sent her heart flying. It was the most nervous she had ever felt.
"Hey, Y/N?"
"Hey, Harry! How was your day?" She wrote back with a smile as she cuddled herself deep into her bed.
"It was good, thanks. I got a question."
"What's that?"
Her palms started to sweat again. What could Harry possibly want to ask her? Maybe a date? Maybe something more? Or, she could just be overthinking it and he just wanted notes from class.
"Do you like me?" The text read.
Her body almost left her soul. Was it that obvious now? She didn't want to tell him. It's not the way she had planned it. She always thought that Harry would tell her that he liked her, and then she could confess her feelings. She was being pinned.
"I don't know..." She texted back, "Do you like me?"
"I think so." He texted her back, "I think I do like you. I think about you a lot."
Her heart hammering, she smiled wide as a squeal left her lips. She couldn't believe that this was happening. But, it didn't make sense. If he liked her so much, then why does he never approach her?
"Oh. Why don't you talk to me in class then?" She texted back.
"Because my friends are assholes. I don't want them to be mean to you. I waved to you the other day, didn't I?"
That was true. He did. She'll never forget the smile spread across his cheeky face. His dimples were the cutest thing she had ever seen. She sighed. t
"You're right. I've seen your friends before and they kind of look like assholes..." She giggled as she sent it, "But maybe we can hang out together alone sometime?"
"Maybe. Does that mean you like me?"
She bit her lip. He already confessed his feelings to her, she might as well say it. Even if it wasn't the way she planned, she was hoping to see the look on his face when he says that he likes her.
"I do like you a lot."
Three dots appeared on the screen. She anxiously waited for a response. Maybe this was the part when he asked her to come meet him, or maybe come to her dorm. They both had a mutual liking, so it only made sense that the confession would lead them to finally talk to each other in real life.
"Can you send me photos of yourself? ;)"
It stung. Like a lot. Reading that text kind of felt like a punch to the gut, and sucked her back into her shell. She wasn't a prude, but they were yet to meet up or say anything to each other in real life. It was kind of scummy.
"Idk." She texted back.
"Come on, Y/N, you're really beautiful. I wanna see what you look like under all those clothes."
She stared at the screen. For a while. It felt like hours, but it was only minutes. She felt defeated. She liked him, but this was going a bit too far.
"Goodnight, Harry."
She shut her phone off and went to bed.
;
The next morning she was at the cafe getting coffee before class. It was quiet, and barely anybody was around. She ordered her regular coffee and sat at a table near a window to wake up a bit before classes started.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a lone Harry that was approaching her, but opted to at a table next to hers instead. His friends weren't around. He was alone. She started to feel awkward after last nights texts. Maybe it was her chance to say something, but she wasn't sure.
She kept glancing towards him, and he never looked up to even see her. Was he really avoiding her? Was he actually mad? It didn't make sense. She thought he would respect her boundaries, but instead he was giving her a cold shoulder. He never even texted back after last night either.
She swallowed the frog in her throat.
Getting up from her seat, she walked to his table. Harry was staring down at his textbook with a black coffee sitting next to it. He still hadn't even noticed her. Not until she had said his name.
"Harry?"
His head popped up from his textbook, a confused look on his face as he looked at her but soon there was a small greeting smile spread across his face.
"Hey." He straightened his posture, closing his textbooks, "What's up?"
His voice was deep. She had heard him talk before, but this was different. Hearing his voice was enough to make her melt into a puddle on the floor. She bit on her lip nervously, shifting the weight on her feet.
"Um, I just wanted to--"
"Styles! Mate!" One of his friends rushed towards him with a grin, "The fuck you doing down here alone?"
Her eyes widened, taking a step back as his friend rushed towards the table to sit next to him. Harry chuckled at his friends actions, and she was left standing there awkwardly. Harry looked back up at her, tilting his head.
"Is there something you wanted?"
Ouch.
"No." She shook her head, "Sorry."
And with that, she walked away with tears brimming her eyes.
;
"Hey, lovely. What are you doing?" Harry texted her again.
"I'm mad at you." She texted back as she sat in the library, "Please don't text me."
"Mad? What did I do?"
"Why did you act like that in the cafe? You haven't texted me at all and then when I came to talk to you, you acted like nothing happened."
She was pissed off. Harry was giving her the run around and she didn't appreciate it. Her heart was being played with, and it was obvious that Harry didn't actually like her.
"I'm sorry, Y/N." He texted back, "I'm just really shy and I didn't know what to say. And I'm sorry about last night too."
She sighed.
"Okay..."
"I have something for you."
"What is it?"
"Open your door."
She swallowed thickly. Putting down the phone, she quickly ran to her dorm door before flinging it open. She was hoping to see Harry standing there, but instead there was nothing. A sting of disappointment followed through her body, but when she looked down there were roses.
She smiled softly.
Picking them up, she closed the door and set the roses back onto her bed.
"These are for me?"
"Yeah. :)"
"They are beautiful, Harry, thank you."
"Anything for you, my dear."
;
"Tell me your darkest secrets and I'll share mine."
It was midnight on a Friday. She was up all night texting Harry, sharing stories between one another. She finally felt like she could trust him again. When she asked about why he wouldn't hang out with her, he replied that he was just really busy. She understood. He was a double major, and he was always in classes and on weekends he studied.
"Darkest secrets?"
"Yeah. You go first." He replied.
"One time my mom caught me drinking on the roof."
"That's all you got?" He replied.
"I'm a really boring person." She giggled to herself, "What about you?"
"My secret right now is that I'm naked thinking about you."
Her face flushed. It had been three weeks since they started talking and he hadn't brought up anything sexual since the last time. She was at a level of trust, but she didn't know yet. She was still unsure.
"Okay."
"Okay?"
"I don't know how you want me to respond." She snapped.
"Goodnight, Y/N."
;
She hated to admit that her feelings for Harry was growing stronger, even if she hadn't even talked to him in real life yet. She was at a loss. They constantly texted each other throughout the day, but never in math class. She just guessed he was too focused to be texting, and that was understandable.
She didn't know what to do anymore. She didn't feel lonely anymore, but she wanted to be able to talk to Harry without his friends around. It wasn't fair. It was like she was a secret he couldn't let out.
"Hey." Harry texted.
"Hi."
"Meet me in the library right now."
She smiled to herself, but mainly because she was nervous. Was this the part where they finally sat down to talk? Hang out?
"Right now? I'm in the cafe."
"Hurry before I leave."
It was odd. Very odd.
"Okay, just wait for me."
"I'm in a hurry."
"I'm coming now!" She texted back.
She put her phone away and quickly rushed out of the cafe to head towards the library. After all this time, he was finally ready to meet her. See her. Talk to her. It made her stomach twist in knots just thinking about sitting with him and talking to him without his friends around.
"When you get here, just come sit with me."
She nodded to herself, not responding as she entered the library. Her eyes searched, heart thumping as she walked slowly, looking for him. It took a few minutes, but she found him sitting in the back with his nose in the books.
She let out a shallow breath. This was the moment.
"Hey, sorry I got here as soon as you texted," She tried to sound cool as she pulled the chair out and sat next to a confused Harry. He looked at her with a brow raised, lips parted. Which made her look even more confused.
"Sorry..." Harry closed his book, clearing his throat, "What?"
"What?" She giggled, "You texted me to come meet you."
Harry looked off to the side, eyes pinched. Suddenly she had a uneasy feeling in her stomach, and she shifted in her seat as she got her phone out.
"I'm sorry, love," Harry chuckled softly, "I think you got the wrong person."
She thought he was just playing around. He always teased her like this in text.
"Stop playing around," She laughed softly, "What did you wanna talk about?"
Harry stared at her like she was crazy. Like he really didn't know what she was talking about. That's when it hit her. It was a weird feeling, almost like feeling nothing at all, but feeling everything all at once. Her body vibrated, and there was nothing but white noise in her ears.
"Hold on, sorry..." She whispered as she looked down at the phone and texted the phone number.
"Where are you?" She sent it, then looked up at Harry who's phone was on the desk. It didn't vibrate. It didn't do anything. But her phone dinged.
"I'm in the back." The stranger replied.
She stared at Harry.
Then looked back down at the phone.
"What's my name?" She asked Harry in front of her, "Do you know my name?"
Harry frowned. "Um... I think we have maths together, but..." He shook his head, "I'm sorry, I don't know you."
A rush of embarrassment ran through her. It finally clicked that she wasn't texting Harry. She was texting someone else. Tears brimmed her eyes as she stared down at the phone, before closing her eyes and taking a slow breath. She felt like she was going to have a panic attack. She really spilled a lot of private stuff to this person in the last couple of weeks. A lot of stuff she had never told anybody.
"Y'okay?" Harry frowned.
"Oh my god," A voice came from behind her, making her head shoot towards the voice. There was a girl behind her, one that she immediately recognized. It was Rachel from class.
"I can not believe that you really thought," She laughed out as she held her phone up, "This has to be one of the best pranks of the year!"
Tears were now streaming down her face as she quickly stood to her feet with anger. Harry rose with her, still looking confused as he looked between the both of them.
"Prank?" He frowned.
"Give me your phone." Y/N whispered harshly, "Delete those messages--"
"You think I'm gonna delete those?" She cackled out, shaking her head, "These texts have already been shared with the entire class. Of course, not Harry. If he knew then it wouldn't have worked."
"What texts? What?" Harry was starting to get irritated as he walked towards Rachel. Y/N stood embarrassed, sobbing into her hands angrily as she tried to hide her face.
"Oh, Harry, don't get mad," Rachel cackled, "But she totally likes you and we've been cat fishing her for the last couple weeks. She is not a easy one to crack, I gotta tell you, but there's a bunch of juicy shit--"
"What the fuck is wrong with you, Rachel?" Harry nearly yelled as he grabbed the phone from her hand.
"Hey, give me my phone back!"
"No, what the fuck is wrong with you!" Harry hissed out as he turned his back and clicked the phone open. He started to look through the texts, his face distraught in disgust as he looked through it.
Out of the corner of his eye, he watched Y/N crying. He frowned. He saw everything. All the personal texts. All the fucking gross messages that Rachel tried to set Y/N up with.
Harry deleted all the texts, then turned towards Rachel. Veins prodded on his neck as he threw the phone onto the ground.
"You really are a fucked up person, Rachel. I'm reporting this to the dean tomorrow."
Harry didn't give her time to talk, he instead wrapped a arm around the crying stranger and took her out of the library. She felt so stupid. To think that Harry would ever like her? She was crazy, and she started to feel that way very quickly.
"I'm so sorry--" He frowned, "What's your name?"
It stung just to talk to him. She looked at him with red eyes, and it was weird, because she still felt like she loved him but she loved someone that wasn't real. an idea that she had made up in her own head, or one that rachel had made for her.
"I'm Y/N" She sniffled.
"I'm really sorry, Y/N," He whispered out as he patted her shoulder, "I really hope that you don't think I was behind that cause I really wasn't."
She nodded softly. "Okay."
"Rachel is a bitch. I never liked her anyways." He sighed, "Listen, I'm really shit at comforting people, do you just wanna get some food or something? Would that make you feel better?"
She sniffled.
"No," She shook her head, "I think I'm just gonna go back to my dorm. Thanks for the offer though."
"Are you sure?" He frowned, "I really feel bad about what happened."
