“If you're wondering why the music industry is talking about NFTs, beyond cryptocurrency apps, beyond "democratization of patronage" is one simple, glaringly obvious fact: Music is worth WAY more than it's current price in the modern world and corporations are strangling artists.”

Streaming now officially the number one way to listen to music in America.
Paul Mason wants to replace capitalism with a "gift economy". As if to explain, I am greeted at the door of his Victorian cottage in Kennington, south London, by Lottie, his 11-month-old puppy. She brings me a pink toy rabbit. I take it politely and give it back to her. "She understands the gift economy," says Mason.
We get people propped up like Stalin’s corpse for decades and paraded around arenas. People are paying $300 to stand in a football stadium and watch Beyoncé and people lip-sync to their own music and they can only see them on a video screen. This is not the ideal of what music can be. Does the world really need another Neil Young record? Not nearly as much as they need a record from the Central African Republic. I love Neil Young, but it's a superstar system and its a capitalistic construct and it has nothing to do with the true beauty of music.

“I always had a repulsive need to be something more than human. I felt very puny as a human. I thought, “Fuck that. I want to be a superhuman.” ― David Bowie (8 January 1947 – 10 January 2016)
