It was such a simple thing, yet seeing the other so delighted at the mere prospect of trying these deserts, of having her company, ignited an undeniable warmth within Julia’s heart. She had known such warmth before: aiding her friends, answering the prayers of strangers- but this was special. She was still so new to this city, a complete other world from home, or even Fillory, and yet she made a connection far easier than she had when her life had spiraled out of control.
Felicia. She even had a name now, but there was this strange formality about her that seemed habit… but all too formal for friends. Julia would see about helping Felicia feel more at ease in her company. But the first matter of business was dessert, and she’d be lying if she said she wasn’t craving a slice or two more.
“It’s wonderful to meet you, Felicia. I’m Julia.” Even the warmth of Felicia’s smile… Julia felt so at home for being so far away. “It’s really no trouble at all. Are they any kinds of desserts you’d be most interested in?” They were fast approaching the spread of options, it would be wise to ask.
“Julia! Great, I’ll make sure to remember it.” Despite her clumsiness and general lack of organization, Felicia could do names. She was fascinated with people, and though a name may not be the most important part of a person, it did so much just to remember it. “It’s really great to meet you, too. This place might be daunting, but I’m glad to have found someone so kind and accommodating!”
In an attempt to stop herself from rambling on any longer, Felicia took another moment to observe her surroundings and take them in. As they walked closer, she noted that the options were almost exhaustive, and there were so many things she had never seen before, let alone tasted herself. Despite living among royalty as a maid, Felicia admittedly had little experience with such delicacies. For much of her life, Nohr did not have the luxury of indulging all too often, and Felicia cared far too much for the family she served, always putting their needs first. Being able to do this now was exciting.
“Well, I suppose I should say that I try to avoid anything with milk in it, as it doesn’t sit well with me... but if I’m being honest, sometimes I disregard that.” She trailed off with a whisper at the end as a child would, admitting that they had done something wrong. But looking at all of the desserts laid out before her... it was clear that she wasn’t going to care about the contents. “Oh, what about a slice of cake? I haven’t had something like that in a while... I know it’s simple, but I’m sure whatever we find will taste delicious!”
