6. LaughterThe cloying, overpowering urge to laugh. She could barely breathe, and she could feel the bruises on her arms and legs from kicking and rolling as she gasped for breath. Her hand, shakily, clutched her staff. She had to use it to force herself up, force a step forward. She laughed. The world around her swirled in a purple mist. Still laughing as she thrust her blade forward. Still laughing as her blade slipped between their ribs and pierced a still beating heart. Still laughing as the purple blood covered the floor, her blade, her hands. Laughing as the mist faded, and everything seemed real enough. She couldn't stop, collapsing onto the corpse as she laughed so hard she cried. She survived this one, but she didn't survive it efficiently enough. She kept laughing, wishing she could will the tears from her eyes as rough hands pulled her away for another exercise. 28. Home Redglare could barely form a sentence, but maybe that was for the best, at the time. 27. Sleep

Redglare sleeps and controlled intervals, and only when there is nothing else that needs her attention.  There are seldom opportunities she feels there’s nothing she can attend to.  She actually has some joint pain as a result of sleeping on hard surfaces and uncomfortable positions

38. Sympathy

Redglare has very little to spare, for most people.  But it’s there.  Whenever she sees someone pinned under the weight of their own circumstances, struggling merely to exist in a system that considers them less than fodder-- she cares.  It is among the few things that still stir great emotion within her.

2. Hate

Redglare’s hatred was not the kind of hot, fiery, passionate that made great romance and dramatic stories.  Her hate was cold and dispassionate, the hatred one feels for something that simply shouldn’t be allowed to exist in the same universe as one containing Talula Pyrope.  Her hate did not propagate itself-- it would destroy itself, coiling in on itself like an ouroboros, swallowing its own tale even as it wrapped around the subject of its ire until both were dead.

Redglare had a reputation of being unfeeling, but that wasn’t true.  She felt things deeply and intensely, as though they were carved onto her bones.  Her enemies, when accustomed to seeing only their own reflection in her glasses, often saw her wildest grins seconds before their deaths.

That cold, dead, awful feeling has grown very familiar to her.

 23. Romance

Redglare didn’t have too much money.  She didn’t get paid, as a Neophyte-- criminals forfeited everything, including all property, so it didn’t feel like stealing when she was encouraged to line her pockets when the convict’s legs were still twitching. Having a few coins in her pockets helped; sometimes she’d go out, find some seedy establishment serving up illicit intoxicants, or call a “service” of some kind.  Escort was the most polite term she could think of.  

Sometimes she’d come a bit short in cash-- she’d offer a service of some kind.  Usually it was enough just to scare off some competition, or keep a street corner clear by showing up in-uniform.  

It wasn’t really pity, or antipathy, or anything close.  But it felt cleaner than any real relationships.  Sometimes she’d even get close to one of the escorts, found herself giving a smile.  Talking and doing a bit more than negotiating terms and fees, letting a piece of herself-- however small-- show itself truthfully despite the dire business of Drone Season.  It wasn’t quite romance, but it was a kind of trust.  Maybe the first kind of trust she ever knew, in dealing with other trolls.

24. Orientation

Redglare didn’t often feel a strong drive to fill her quadrants.  Romantic media on Alternia was, in her humblest of opinions, complete garbage-- twisted and insincere and, often times, stinking to the high heavens of propaganda.  She didn’t realize how much she had grown to despise the Empress’ notion of romance on a strictly conscious level, but there was something distinctly relatable she found in the characters who’d fail to fill buckets for lack of drive or desire.  The message was clear, if not at the forefront of her mind: perform your duties or it’s the end for you and your damaged mind, traitor.

It took her first contact with other cultures to, by proxy, realize that there was something wrong with having to live like that, even if she kept it as hidden as the symbol of rebellion tucked under her vest.  It took her a few years even after that to approach the subject of recreational sex, something for herself alone, wasted genetic stock be damned.
