Simple magick tip #1
To strengthen you bond with energies or deities you can thank them before you go to bed. It can be as detailed or simple as you want
You do not work with the Fae, the Fae works with you
Of course, anyone can work with whatever they want. Though, that do not mean they should. After all, ones safety should come first. Though, first and most importantly: you do you, just respectly and hopefully safety
Let yourself be cringe in your worship!!!
The Gods don’t find you embarrassing. The Gods don’t care about seeming cool and professional for the approval of others.
Make that fucking aesthetic photo collage for Aphrodite with cute pics you found on Pinterest .
Dress up like Hermes and go for a damn walk.
Collect random stones you think are cool and put them on your altar.
Put that photo of that cartoon character that reminds you of your deity on your altar.
Make that Minecraft temple to Hekate, domesticate those damn Minecraft wolves for Cerberus.
Make your deities in the sims!
Write soppy melodramatic poetry for Dionysus that no one else will read.
Make self insert fanfics about your favourite Gods and write them all as your best friends. Let them interact with your edgy ocs.
Create an AU where you and your Gods are all characters from your favourite anime.
Record silly little songs for them
Make them paintings that are full of clashing colors and weird forms.
Draw them a fursona
Wear that bright yellow outfit for Apollon.
Put on a dramatic makeup look for Aphrodite.
Call your closest deity that silly little nickname you have for them and let them call you one too.
Share your special interests with your Gods. Design your God as a pokémon or a crystal gem, or a sonic character.
Those losers that try to make you feel bad for being passionate will never have what you have.
In the words of the Great Lord Hermes: “Every human I have ever liked was at least a little bit cringe”
BE CRINGE. BE PROUD. THE GODS LOVE YOU.
if you're feeling powerless right now—and god knows I am—here's a reminder you can donate to the National Network of Abortion Funds, the Trans Law Center, Gaza Soup Kitchen, the Palestine Children's Relief Fund, and hundreds of other charities that will work to mitigate the damage that has been and will continue to be inflicted
life continues. we still have the capacity to do good, important work. that matters
You are loved by the Gods. Every part of you is loved and will always be, no matter what you do.
i feel like lady hestia enjoys just being around. in the most simple sense. drinking your morning coffee or tea, she's there enjoy it with you. being bored at work, she's there sitting next to you filling you with ideas what can you do when back home. making a quick dish after work, she's there loving all the smells. laying in your bed and looking at the ceiling, she's looking at the same ceiling. she's there, always. and i think this is what makes her so important. she's always there, no matter how small or big the occasion, she's there, with you. her presence is not grand and full of intense emotions, its simple and stable. she's like the air that surrounds us, we know it's there even if we cannot see it, grab it, it's there.

How I was taught to cleanse with fire
Many cultures around the world use smoke and fire for cleansing and purification rituals. New Mexico is not different in that manner, as often I see curanderos (and spiritual leaning Catholics) burning a variety of herbs, woods, and resins to cleanse themselves and their spaces. Sometimes we even use mezcal to cleanse by spraying it from our mouths. While not necessarily ‘fire’, it does have that fire element to it. Spraying mezcal from the mouth is often done to cleanse the body or mind of someone, rather than a space.
I grow a variety of herbs on my property and I often find myself inclined to use them over store bought bundles or incense as it feels more traditional, and connects me to the earth and to my ancestors. My grandma taught me how to burn desert sage to purify a space, which is one of my favorites to use spiritually for cleansing. It brings an energy of healing and calmness when you burn it, and also works great for purification. I think of it as the lavender of sages due to its warm hug-like energy it brings.
To begin cleansing with desert sage, you first must hold the sage in your hands, and close your eyes. Envision happiness, and warmth, and hugging your own abuelita. Think about the warm yellow energy of the desert sage and how it brings that feeling of walking through a winter landscape knowing that you will be home soon. Enjoy the feeling and scent of the unburnt sage. Once you feel ready to begin, open your eyes, and take one deep breath in and out. Now, you must open the front door of the place you are cleansing, and optionally more windows if the space is large enough. The thick adobe of my grandmothers house wouldn’t allow any spirits to leave if you didn’t allow them to exit somehow. Begin by walking around the space with the unlit sage, feeling the energies of the space and finding spots that you need to focus on. Once you have identified the dense spots, you can light the sage. I always light the largest end of the desert sage bundle as I find it is the easiest to work with, allowing you to hold it by the smaller portion. Allow a large ember to form, about the size of a dime. Then, while walking through the space blow on the ember allowing the smoke to fill the direction you are blowing into, as this brings life and soul into the sage you burn. While doing this be intently focused on removing ‘anything bad’ as my grandmother would say. Be sure to blow the smoke into each of the four corners of your house too, to fortify and protect your space. I usually include the outdoor corners too, if the weather is calm enough outside to allow my sage to burn. Once you have hit all of the dense spots with your smoke, place the desert sage into a cooking pot in the kitchen or living room until it ceases to burn. This allows the smoke to do any remaining work it needs to. Once complete, thank the spirit of the sage by holding it again in your hands, giving it a sort of hug, and verbally thanking it. You may leave an offering at the bush you collected it from if you harvested the sage itself, otherwise you could also leave the offering near your favorite plant, I suppose. Once complete store your sage respectfully until the next time you need to purify your space.
Allow the front door and any open windows to remain open for at least 30 minutes after the final ember went out. Remember to always practice fire safety and never leave a sage bundle burning unattended.
If desert sage does not grow near you, look into if it would be able to successfully grow in your plant hardiness zone. If not look into using a native sage variety that grows in your area! In my opinion it is always best to use herbs that are from the region you live in over imported ones any day. And of course, do your best, because no one is perfect. If store bought is all that is available to you then use it! Or, if you already have a store bought herb bundle go ahead and use that. Be resourceful, and stay safe out there!
So your a Witch and you have a problem with routines or suffer from chronic overthinking
Listen when I say my executive dysfunction and anxiety can be quite devastating to any form of action I mean it from the bottom of my ✨soul✨ but when it comes to a witchy routine... Oof. These are some tips and tricks I've learned and figured I'd share it with you. Remember this is based off of my personal experience, what works for one person does not automatically work for another!
So first piece of advice in the fight against these unfaltering foes!
Don't fight em.
WAIT!! Hear me out!
Somedays you just can't do ✨the thing✨ i promise you your spirit team loves you and understands and while procrastinating is the enemy of achievement taking breaks and rest are it's allies. Now don't put if off for too long, maybe set a specific date or time to do it and stick to your word. If you make a promise to yourself you must endeavor to keep it. Life happens, it's unfair but you must at least be fair to yourself and to quote Mister Meeseeks "Follow Through!!" This doesn't just apply to witchy based activities either. Sometimes the urge to just not, is your bodies request for something else.
I have so many unread books I don't even know where to start and depsite all the unfinished books on my shelf I want to have more and I really shouldn't be buying more but -
First step when things get overwhelming is to breath.
Secondly you don't have to read all those books today, tomorrow or ever.
It's also okay to just have books and not finish them. I love to collect books. They may call me a horder(they being the anxiety based court that constantly judges my actions) but you'd call me a librarian if I let the public read borrow em, sooooo. Some people collect teapots that aren't even useable but I don't judge them for it. (I kind of do but only a little bit! But that's because I like my teapots pretty yes but you see-)
Speaking of Libraries!
I love the library so much guys! Please please please support your local libraries! They have so many helpful resources, I honest to Gods could make a whole other post about why libraries are important but! ✨ Focus is a must ✨
Your local library may already have that book you wanna buy, if they don't libraries are connected to a network and depending on where you live your local library can actually get books from pretty far away, sometimes they can even go out of network and into another and the cool thing is in the bookstore I can check of my library has it and save my self a pretty penny.
✨ IMPORTANT! ✨
Maybe despite how well written it is, or how enjoyable you find it you find yourself stopping halfway through. Maybe the stopping point isn't the end of the book. The knowledge you'd sought and needed might have been found and who knows maybe later you will finish it but beating your own ass about it ain't going to help. Take your time, knowledge is power but unused knowledge is a precious waste of time and space for your beautiful brain.
I have this spell I wanna do but there's so much I need to do in order for it to-
Pause
Make the spell simpler.
Yep! Not every powerful spell needs to include sage and cinnamon in order to work. Sustainable witchcraft is important. If you don't have the energy, time or money to make your spell all fancy smansy then don't. You're creative and wise, the intent behind the spell is most important and creating your own method using what you have/can afford is not only creative it shows intent. Witchcraft is not there to stress you out or be judged. The only standard for witchcraft is intent. For example! My first spell changed my life and I made it all fancy smansy, I'm talking the full nine yards I had a special knife, fancy fruit, candles, chanting, moon water, I went big sense I refused to go home. My last life changing spell included my tarot deck and a piece of paper, while I drank my morning tea. It's not just the what you're doing when it comes to spells and rituals it's about mindset. Life's already hard enough, have fun with your spiritual practice!
I feel so weighed down, and tired and I just can't find the energy to do a daily ritual but I really want to start one!
That's okay!
I'm exhausted too and also wish to have more routines but you gotta start.
My ideal routine is morning tarot, cup of tea, and meditation. Some weeks I'm up every morning, drinking tea, doing a quick tarot reading, going on walks, just taking in the day before getting started.
Some weeks I sleep through all 6 of my alarms, don't have time to pack a lunch let alone do some tarot and go on a walk!
Routines are there to help build structure in your life, not rigid cages you must appease.
Some weeks, some days, some times you honestly can't be bothered. That's okay but that just means when you can be bothered you do. My tarot decks are sassy as hell to me about it tbh. I'll do my morning tarot or I won't but they understand. But if I have the time and energy later on in the week and just don't? That quick three card reading I was gonna do with my coven mates just become 26 cards plus two Oracle decks (I'm exaggerating a teenie bit but it feels like a lot sometimes) and you know what, that's okay. Your deck is just catching you up on all the knowledge you've missed! You'll make time for tarot, it's not a scheduled appointment, it's supposed to be a meeting between equals.
I'm pretty sure I've gotten off track but to show you the sum my knowledge or TLDR as you young whippersnappers are saying these days.
Basically, be kind and patient with yourself as you establish your routines and find what works for you. Remember your best today might not ne your best tomorrow. Some days the best I can do is drink my cup of tea as I drive down the highway, other times its that nice meditatve walk.
Find what works for you, day to day, hour to hour and remember be kind yourself. You're not just a meat suit who needs to accomplish everything and anything right here right now, your stardust that deserves to enjoy and cherish those happy experiences that can find you if you step out of judgement and into self love.
Remember this is just my personal experience, and you can take it with a grain of salt, a speck of sugar or just toss it over your shoulder.
I'm exhausted since sleep is a elusive mistress that likes to come and go but I hope this makes sense and maybe helps you enjoy your day a little bit more.

So you think you have the Fae attention
The Fae are fickle creatures and I will not claim that what is and isn't fine. This is just what I have observed. So keep that in mind.
If you think the Fae are around you. Be it you living near/within them or you think you might be a magnet or door or even a portal of sorts. There is probably nothing to do.
It is possible to coexist. You can tell them your boundaries and give them thanks in turn. Make sweets that both you enjoy. Make it know what is off limits. They might not listen but if you have a good report, they can be willing to make a trade, be it for sweet or flowers, or miscellaneous things like chalk, rocks, milk, cream or any odds and ends.
Do not promise but give or mention. If you think you can do something. There is no reason to know names. Give thanks if you think they have helped you, it can be in your head or out loud.
Of course you should be careful. This might not be the same for everyone. Maybe just the ones the Fae has chosen to work with or maybe it is how the Fae of the underworld work.
But I do believe if the Fae is hounding you or won't stop messing around, they mean to work or even help you. They would probably not stop until you speak with them and put up boundaries if not they won't stop being a nuisance.
It can be as simple as wanting to be known or a simple offering of thanks. Though always thread carefully. You should be careful and should not invite any Fae in but the one that is clearly there for a reason. Else you know how to work with them and the dangers that come with working with them.
I am not encouraging you to work with them willy nilly. Make sure to do research and be upmost careful. But if they want to get your attention then they won't stop. This is just advises for those who seems to have a connection to the Fae be it personal or Environmental. This is all I have right know but if there is more, I will share

Pssst hey kid. Wanna cleanse your home for free with no effort?
Open a window.
That's it. That's all you have to do. Open a window and let Nature cleanse the space. Free and easy down the road we go.
I mean, at LEAST half the time, those "bad vibes" turn out to be dust and stagnant air, and a little bit of tidying (i.e. removing the stuff that stinks, taking out trash, clearing walkways, decluttering one or two surfaces) plus airing out does WONDERS for lightening the atmosphere of a home.
So yeah. Cosigned.

Dollar Tree witchy stuff
————————————————-⭐——————————————————
This is a list of Dollar Tree witch items! These are perfect for beginner witches and witches on a budget. I’ll be listing things you can find and their uses. Please note that your Dollar Tree may not have some of these items, and that these materials may not have significance in your craft (and frankly, you don’t need them! you do not need any materials to be into witchcraft!).
————————————————-⭐——————————————————
Jars
Number one is jars! There are all sorts of jars at Dollar Tree. My personal favorites are the small corked jars you can buy in the craft section. These are perfect for spells! Of course, they always have small mason jars and other containers, but I would definitley recommend the small corked jars.
Candles
Candles are perfect to buy at Dollar Tree! I get all of my candles from them. They have candles in almost every color and size! I use candles in my daily practice, mainly for worshipping my deities. I light candles both as offerings, and to symbolize my deities presence. Many spells and rituals involve lighting candles and letting candles burn down. Dollar Tree has the best supply of prayer and glass contained candles that are great for deity worship and long term use, but they also have huge packs of tea light candles, which I would recommend for spell work.
They also have small wax melters and wax cubes that you can use for a flame free alternative to candles!
Incense
Incense! Dollar Tree has loads of Incense to choose from. A lot of these come in packages that include incense sticks and holders, so it’s perfect to get you started. They not only have specific scents, they also have blends made for certain intentions. I have one for mindfulness, but I don’t care for how it smells, so I don’t use it very often. I use incense as offerings to my gods, but also to cleanse spaces and to set an intention during meditation.
Oils
Essential oils can be found in our good pal Dollar Tree. Their properties and usage vary from type to type, but I mainly use essential oils to anoint things and to dress candles.
Herbs and other edible items
Dollar Tree has a surprising amount of herbs. Cinnamon and thyme are two basic herbs you can find at almost every Dollar Tree. Once my local Dollar Tree had bay leaves, but I haven’t seen them since then. If you’re looking for some staple and versatile herbs, Dollar Tree probably has them. Cinnamon is good for purification, protection, abundance, love magic, and boosting other properties of things in the spell with it. I use cinnamon very often in my practice.
SALT! Salt is extremely cheap but a STAPLE of my craft. I use it in almost all of my spell work because it has so many properties! I use it a lot for protection and amplifiying energies.
There are also other food items, like dark chocolate. I’ve found that chocolate is a very good offering for Hades, and that he likes it a lot. If you’re working with deities or spirits, I would recommend looking around your Dollar Tree to see if you can find any foodstuffs they might enjoy, like sweets, nuts and crackers.
Offering dishes
Offering dishes are by no means a required part of working with deities and spirits. I personally don’t have any offering dishes, but I have seen several small vases, plates, bowls, and dishes that would make good offering bowls. Offering dishes are used to show your deities where their offerings are and designate a space for their physical offerings.
Altars
Dollar Tree has LOADS of stuff for altars. I found that they have lots of wooden crates and boxes, as well as desk organizers. These all could be used as small sacred spaces and can be devoted to a deity or spirit (or even to yourself!) and used as an altar. This is perfect for people who don’t have space to devote a large area to their craft.
They also have tons of stuff for decor. If you want to decorate your altar according to seasons/sabbats/esbats, dollar tree has loads of stuff to decorate with.
Some other things you could get for your altar is an altar cloth and some candle holders. An altar cloth is similar to an offering dish in the way that it designates a space to your practice, but it also protects the surface youre working on from damage! Any towel or table runner will do. Candle holders are self explanitory.

Red Flags In Pagan Circles
I've seen a lot of younger, inexperienced members of the pagan (and witchy!) communities fall into some traps set up for them by people who wish to harm them. It saddens my heart to see this happen, as a lot of newer practitioners join these circles so they can learn! And because they're new, they often get taken advantage of.
So I'm creating this non-comprehensive list of some red flags in pagan and witch circles. Again, this isn't comprehensive. I will be updating this as time goes by, so I recommend checking in on this. For each red flag, I'll give a brief explanation as to why it's a red flag. As always, feel free to add your own in the replies and I'll add them to this post!
EDIT: 11/15/2022 - since there's been some people misunderstanding some of the things in this post, I've rewritten a lot of it so hopefully it makes more sense! Apologies to any confusion that's been caused. I also added some of the additions people have reblogged as well!
Usage of the terms "black" and "white" magic:
While this doesn't always mean someone is racist or xenophobic, within occult spaces there's this tendency to use this. The association of darkness/black things being evil isn't always a racist thing (we as humans are naturally afraid of the dark), but it did play a part in the Atlantic slave trade by associating dark skin with animalistic, evil ambitions and light skin as being pure and good. This isn't 100% a red flag, but it's good to keep an eye out when it is used! Another issue is that "black magic" was often used to refer to African traditional magic. It's why you'll often see hoodoo and voodoo portrayed as evil.
Argues that anyone can practice whatever they want, regardless of the status of it being closed or not:
Closed practices are closed for a reason, specifically because these practices have had their people murdered, their land stolen, and their practices made illegal for many years. The reason they are closed is so that outsiders cannot just come into their sacred spaces, take what they want, and bastardize it. The belief that you can join these closed practices without being initiated/born into them is rooted in colonialism and racism. This is one of the biggest red flags. Some examples of closed practices are hoodoo, ATRs, Native American beliefs, brujeria, and santeria. Some plants are closed as well, so please do your due diligence.
The belief in folkism/volkism: that open pantheons should only be worshiped by those with their blood:
This is the complete opposite of the above. Open pantheons are open because they have not been passed down to us in a single line, and they are currently being revived. As such, these practices can't really be "closed". People who argue that open pantheons should only be worshiped by those with their blood are partaking in the same beliefs as Neo-Nazis. Please watch out for this especially in heathen/Nordic spaces! These people ARE NAZIS. The specific dogwhistle here is "go back to your roots". (Thank you to @chrisasiaheartman)
Offers to teach advanced practices (baneful magic, deity work, etc.) to newcomers:
It's true that everyone is on different parts of their practice, and not everyone will progress the same way. However, there are certain practices that newcomers should not be doing until they have the basics down. This includes baneful magic and deity work, as you can open yourself up to disastrous consequences if you don't take the proper precautions. This isn't too much of a red flag as often the people doing this do mean well, but it's still something to look out for.
They use the terms "witchcraft" and "Wicca" interchangeably:
They are not interchangeable! Witchcraft is a practice, and Wicca is a religion. These types of people often believe you must be Wiccan to practice witchcraft, which you don't.
They refer to Wicca as an "ancient" religion:
This is false. Wicca was founded in the 1960s. If they do this, it could either be tongue-in-cheek, or it's just blatant misinformation. I would be careful.
They act as though baneful magic is evil.
It isn't. Baneful magic can be a form of protection and self-defense, it is not always a bad thing.
They act as though the "threefold law" is the end-all-be-all of practicing:
Not every witch believes in the threefold law, nor are you required to. This goes back into my point about them believing you must follow Wiccan teachings to practice witchcraft. You don't, period.
The use of racial or cultural slurs, even if they claim it's in a non-discriminatory way:
They are racist. If they're mentioning these slurs in an educational way, that's fine. But if a witchcraft space is just dropping these slurs casually in speech, it's a good sign of them being racist.
They push a specific diet:
You don't need to eat vegan or vegetarian to be a witch. No one has to. Some witches might think that's the best way to practice, and that's fine! Some witches might not subscribe to that idea, and that's fine too!
They push pseudoscience and/or anti-science ideologies (anti-vax, etc.):
This is extremely dangerous. Witchcraft and science can work together just fine. People have done this for so long, and pushing these ideologies can be extremely dangerous to peoples' personal health.
Enforcement of gender binaries:
This is things like the divine "masculine" and divine "feminine". Often times these people will also claim that the womb/uterus should be worshipped as well, and the people who do this are often TERFs/transphobic. Not everyone neatly fits into a gender binary. (Thank you to @hagstone-enthusiast for this!)
They promote the idea that only witches can be female, or that male witches are called warlocks:
Witches can be any gender, and the term warlock is actually derogatory as it means someone broke their oath.
Promotes the idea that mentally ill/neurodivergent witches that that way because they have a strong intuition:
This is very dangerous because being neurodivergent/mentally ill isn't a special thing, and it often is a detriment to many people. People who claim this often believe in indigo children/starseed children. In addition, look out for people to claim that neurodivergent people are that way because they "don't have a position attitude" (thanks to @urchinbeans5000).
