You do not work with the Fae, the Fae works with you
Of course, anyone can work with whatever they want. Though, that do not mean they should. After all, ones safety should come first. Though, first and most importantly: you do you, just respectly and hopefully safety
If you have fae in your home
They probably don’t want to hurt you. Someone likely invited them to stay and they believe this is their home as much as you believe it is yours
They may be tutelary, or fae who have lived with a family for several generations. This is more likely if you have a history of witches in your family. They want to help you.
If you think you are being watched, don’t worry. They’re just curious.
If you haven’t been in a room for several days, they’ve probably been “hanging out” there. Calmly ask them to leave you be and stop moving your things.
Sometimes, appliances will suddenly stop or start working. This is normal. Don’t pay attention to them.
Do not hurt the spiders.
Candles make good storage units. The fae will keep your items safe there.
They will bother your animals. Your animals will get used to it. Some may befriend the fae.
Do not accept items from fae unless they are explicitly stated to be gifts.
Do not stand in faery circles. They do not belong to you.
Collect shiny things for them and they will let you work.
If you write about your experiences with them, they may try to stop you. Take a break. You’re sharing their secrets.
If your house gets messy easily or descends into chaos, don’t worry. Just clean up after them.
When you suddenly get a rush of energy at 3 am or feel like a child again, just for a minute, you’re being faeriestruck. This is normal.
Play music with constant rhythms. Don’t play fast music unless you want to be faeriestruck.
You may speak to them verbally, but they will not respond.
When speaking with the fae, do not give them your name.
They may give you their own, but it’s unlikely to be their real name unless they trust you.
If you work with deities, demons, spirits, or other entities, be cautious. You may be tricked by a fae calling themself the wrong name.
When pulling leaves, petals, or any other parts from plants around your home, thank the plant and it will be more willing to help you again.
Fae follow seven, not five, elemental correspondences: earth; air; fire; water; life; light; and magick. When working with the fae, make use of all seven.
Most fae are much larger than the length of your hand.
Most fae are not humanoid.
Most fae are not “pretty.”
Do not be alarmed if you see a faery and they look strange.
If you have worked with fae for a long time, you may find that you know things about them without thinking.
Fae eventually know things about you, too, without being told. Do not panic if they learn your name.
They do not have a set sleeping schedule. They hate sleeping and have a habit of keeping you up to let you know about it.
Befriend your fae or they will never stop bothering you. They are chaotic, powerful, brilliant toddlers in a constant state of boredom.

There is always DOs and DON'Ts with the fae, be cautious but be happy !
DON'T
🧚♀️ give your name, use a pseudonyme. They might use it against you.
🧚♀️ be disrespectful ( with human beings too, don't be mean guys ! )
🧚♀️ say thank you, they might think you owe them something and that ties a contract.
🧚♀️ step in a fairy circle, or folklore says you will dance to your death, or you will be tied to the fairy realm.
🧚♀️ accept gifts, again will tie you to the fairy realm.
🧚♀️ eat or drink what they provide, they will drag you in their world.
🧚♀️ portray them as good or bad, they might get offended, they have different points of view than us.
🧚♀️ put offerings for no reasons, they might get confused and frustrated, they may trick you after.
🧚♀️ blame them, if you think they did something ask politely or make a trade to have your thing or situation back.
DO
🧚♀️ leave consistant offerings if you work with one, it is always appreciated.
🧚♀️ meditate, use divination to communicate with them, but always protect.
🧚♀️ listen to the messages they want you to hear, it might be important if a fae comes to you.
🧚♀️ little altars for them if you are used to work with a specific one, but prefer not next to iton.
🧚♀️ honor them and nature with your daily actions, they will think you are a good human.
🧚♀️ research ! Research ! More and more.
🧚♀️ write your own discoveries, or make a faepedia, it is really handy.
☯️CONTROVERSIAL☯️
Fairy doors : many people demonize it but if the fae invites itself too easily in your home, making one with a filter sigil will prevent bad entities from coming in AND will force the fae to go through the little door instead of random parts of your home. That way you know who is inside.
Should I work with the fae ? : I would recommand baby witches not to work with the fae ( I am not a baby witch antmore but sometimes I still struggle ) they are trickster, as a baby witch you may not have all the cards in your hands if something bad happens to you. Be cautious they are not sugar creatures only ! That being said, do what you want, that is your craft.
Honey and alcool : they are said to make the fae drunk BUT, like people, every fae is different. so get to know your fae before giving some, it is more cautious, plus it is not an obligation.
Always protect yourself, stay safe !

Firstly, I’m not saying I use this or not for legal reasons, but…there’s this little fancy site called pdfdrive.com which has an abundance of ~fae~ books and witchy content.

Things to keep in mind:
🌊 Fae is really an umbrella term! The fae isn’t all cute, dainty faeries. They’re not all female either! Male fae are common as well! And can look anything from humanoid elves to bits and sparks of floating orbs!
🌊 Children have an easier time interacting with the fae and seeing into their realm! (I would know, I’m still a child at 14!) it gets harder to interact once you lose your sense of childhood.
🌊 Always have good intentions! They can sense it and be mean if you don’t! :’))
🌊 They don’t like it when you’re pushy! Don’t pressure them to give you a name or be ‘friends’ right away! I made this mistake many times, I never got an answer or got pranked :’))
🌊 Some fae prefered not to be refered too by “fae” or “faery” think about it, it’s kind of weird….imagine if someone just called you ‘human’ constantly! I prefer to call em’ “Fair folk” “The good people” or just…”guys”
Types of fae really depend on what you believe! There are tales of elves, will-o-wisps, dryads (tree spirits), faeries, and many, many more!
🌊 The fae isn’t like us! They are protectors of nature and spirits with their own way of living. All of them have a different morality than us, and can either feel or not feel our emotions the same way! Make sure to be respectful
🌊 Seelie Fae isn’t necessarily always good and Unseelie fae aren’t always bad! They’re all also more than those two courts! Those are just the most popular! They don’t have the same moral code as us, they enjoy pranking sometimes and teasing. It doesn’t make them evil, they’re usually morally grey!
🌊 A lot of fae have strange…arcane wisdom. They may talk and reply in half-truths (though can never lie, they’re amazing at twisting words!), poems, rhymes, or strange language. Their English may be a bit broken as well! Remember, they have their own little spirit world/society we’re not apart of!
🌊 Never give the fae your real name unless you 100% trust them (the fae can be deceiving)! Names have power, they say if you give the fae your name – you’re basically giving them power over you! This works vice-versa too though, if a fae gives you their real name, it’s seen as a sign of trust – since it’s very rare!
Now then, know you the basic tips? Let’s see how to attract em’ and get those great folk into your life! (Also if this post blows up, I shall make a fae etiquette follow-up post!):

- Leave offerings, (this is obvious, but it works!):
🌺 Different types of fae, enjoy different types of food – but from what I’ve heard they like sweet things. I usually offer half-apples with brown sugar on top, sugar cookies, hard candy (make sure not to leave where birds can get sick!), and honey in a little butterfly dish.
🌺 They also seem to enjoy singing as an offering if you have nothing to give. I sing a lot to them; I also got a little fancy playlist if you want some witchy/fae song ideas. Sharing meals is also good – (just not leftovers, some fae take that as a sign of disrespect!), but eating at the same time. (I make little fae picnics where I eat and talk to them at the same time!) 🌖 🌗 🌘 🌑 🌒 🌓 🌔🌖 🌗 🌘 🌑 🌒 🌓 🌔🌖 🌗 🌘 🌑 🌒 🌓 🌔
- Things you may also offer them besides food are:

I make origami faeries, I saw a Youtube tutorial and they were taken really fast!)
, buttons, old jewelry you don’t want anymore, seashells, sea glass, pressed flowers (
don’t give freshly cut flowers! It can be disrespectful since you’re basically killing nature and giving it back to them…like a desecrated corpse
), coins like pennies, letters to them
(you may write on fallen leaves and cast them out into the wind!)
, and anything hand-made! (store-bought is fine too! I recommend esty for some nice things!)

Things to make to attract/and make for the fae!:
🍁 Fae doors! These can be placed in front of trees usually, they say these can act as a little portal from their world to ours! Fae will likely appear more near these, back and forth! These can be bought off of sights like esty, or created! (I really wanna make one myself – I always meditate in front of this tree when I try to talk to them!)
🍁 Fae houses! These can be easily created with a birdhouse, you can leave these in your garden or in the woods for them!🍁 Links for things to attract fae are here:
- 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Though you may make a spell bottle or grow marigold in your garden, they love bluebells, marigold, bay leaf, picking up trash and caring heavily for nature helps a crap ton (not to mention makes you feel nice!) They don’t like people with negative energy, so it’s good to be playful and in a good mood when trying to interact!

I just saw your post about the fae, what did they look like? I was curious when you said they aren’t all humanoid
There are tons, so there are a lot of different looks! I really recommend Brian Froud's art, he has a lot that tends to span the spectrum from humanoid to the types I like to call "that's a ball with a face!" and "that's just energy!" (He also has a lot of books, though I only have personally read the accompanying book to the Faerie Oracle, just that is chock full of incredibly useful information! I've heard that his other books like Good Faeries, Bad Faeries are really good, from people whose opinions I trust)
I'm not 100% sure if that's just how they are choosing to present themselves to me, but the ones I interact with most are more humanish in the sense that they have two arms, two legs, and a head in the same places we do, but their faces are more animal-like? But again, there are a few that are most definitely Ball With Face.
I think a lot of people mistakenly think of the Fae as just one species, when it's more like an entire separate kingdom(animal, plant, fungi) in that they are incredibly diverse.
