heâs about to take a look around them to find anything in the dark that could help them break the door in â itâs a good thought from her, sheâs clever. it will make things quicker if they donât have to search for another entrance â but before reaper can move even an inch the glass next to them shatters into thousand little pieces at the hands of a bullet. the sound rings loudly in his ears but it happens so fast, so sudden that reaper can hardly react to it. the girl is quicker than him, already trying to shield him with her own body even though sheâs smaller than him, even though she could never fully cover him.
oh boy, sheâs a selfless one. it will be probably her end one day.
all reaper does, though, is to lift his arms over his face to protect it from being cut because thereâs no bit of instinct inside him to try and keep her safe in return. ( itâs not true. he often feels like protecting others. too often. ) once the immediate danger is gone, reaper whirls around to look for the person that aimed at them, needs to know their position and he hates whatever they gave them because his sight is so fucked up, his senses are so slow; itâs an embarrassment because reaper usually reacts a lot faster than this. the girl already pushes him inside the building, though, the glass shards crunching underneath their feet.
he slips into a crouching position next to the entrance right away, hidden away by the wall but still ready to attack should someone try to enter the building. more shots are fired. itâs loud, it makes him flinch a little but it also causes adrenaline to rush through his veins. his heart beats so fast. âguess they found us,â he says as a wicked grin slips onto his lips. heâs excited. he probably  wouldnât be a true member of vermilion if this cruelty wouldnât get his blood boiling with hot delight in some way. âthings are starting to get fun around here, huh?â
laughter slips past his lips as he slowly gets up, upper body still lowered in caution and his eyes flicker away from the entrance to search for her. âi am,â he tells her, âand you? are you bleeding anywhere?â he carefully takes a few steps forwards. they have to hurry before whoeverâs out there gets inside here. a quick hand gesture is thrown at her to tell her to keep moving. âsearch for your weapon, we have no time to spare.â once heâs next to her behind the pillar he looks her briefly over, takes a look at her face but there are no cuts. his hands lifts to pull a shard of glass out of her hair. âis it in the back? iâll make sure youâre safe while you look.â
he had a weird sense of humor, but at least he was fine. if their senses werenât enhanced glass would have bet the laughter was just something in her head, and certainly it wasnât coming from someone in a life or death situation. maybe it was another drug effect and it reminded her to dry the sweat from her forehead. her hands were still shaking, too, and she could only hope it wouldnât affect much on her efficiency with the whip or else they would be damned.
âno, iâm okay.â her feet moved a little bit to the left to give him some space behind the pillar. they didnât have much freedom of movement if they wanted to keep themselves protected, but it would have to do. she closed her eyes when his hand moved towards her head, unsure of what would happen, but opened them again once he removed it. glass couldnât help but give him a smile. maybe people got to be a little happy even in moments of stress. âthank you - and i think so. iâll make it quick.â
the girl turned around, not wanting to waste any of their time. she simply went for it, hoping the pillar was still hiding her position as she jumped over the counter. it seemed to have worked, so she let out the air from her lungs before starting her search. her head started moving around to try and spot her cylinder, but it only took a few seconds before it came to a full stop. she narrowed her eyes, wishing her mind couldnât be right. it probably was, though, and glass let out a sigh before accepting it. âdamn it.â
she crouch walked towards a trashcan not too far away, scared of how right it felt. her hands slowly removed the trashcan lid, placing it on the floor even more carefully so it wouldnât make a sound. it would have made sense for her to just throw her hand inside of it too, hunt for her weapon just like her life depended on it, but as her fingers waited to reach inside she lost the courage. no one could be sure of what was inside of it.
so glass turned the entire bin over instead, revealing all of its contents to her like a disgusting open book. âfinally.â as if they had decided to stop shaking just for that exact special moment she dug through some pieces of disgusting food before she managed to grab her cylinder. she stared at it on her hands for a few seconds, allowing herself a grin. the form turned itself into a long, brown whip, just waiting to be used - so she cracked the whip confidently, the sound almost echoing in the room. âand the game has changed!â she said from the other side of the counter, hoping the other knew what it meant.
