Edgecumbe Outline, Mr. Edgecumbe, Sitka, Alaska © 2017 Glass Half Delicious (glasshalfdelicious.tumblr.com)
In 1974, local prankster Oliver "Porky" Bickar and his friends flew a load of old tires into the crater of this dormant volcano and set them alight as an April Fool’s joke.
Fine for setting an Alaskan mountain on fire in 1974: $50 Convincing a whole city that their dormant volcano is not so dormant: Priceless.

Colors Of Downtown Vancouver, Vancouver, BC © 2017 Glass Half Delicious (glasshalfdelicious.tumblr.com)
When you spend a lot of time walking around a city, it’s easy for your mind start writing certain things off as repetitive and ordinary. I find myself most guilty of this in the downtown core. Just another skyscraper, I think. Just more run-of-the-mill straight lines. Just another uninspired plate glass facade.
Then again, sometimes you walk out onto the deck of a really big cruise ship and find yourself face to face with just how different all that supposed sameness actually is.

Canada Place From The Emerald Princess, Vancouver, BC © 2017 Glass Half Delicious (glasshalfdelicious.tumblr.com)
Once you’ve done your waiting inside the sails, of course, the more traditional view of them becomes immediately available...if perhaps from a slightly higher vantage point than one is generally accustomed to. Just slightly.

Star Trails And A Sneaky Aurora, Yellow Point Park, Ladysmith, BC. © 2017 Glass Half Delicious (glasshalfdelicious.tumblr.com)
Time stack of 53 30-second exposures, and my first real attempt at star trails. Didn’t come out too badly at all, but darn it, just leave it to me to be surrounded by trees on a rare night when the Northern Lights are actually visible this far south!

Katie © 2017 Glass Half Delicious (glasshalfdelicious.tumblr.com)
Another unfortunate case of people misguidedly trying to keep wild animals as pets, Katie the American kestrel is in perfect heath but cannot be released back into the wild due to imprinting on humans when she was very young. She is a lovely girl whose quirky antics always bring a smile to my face.

Flinger & Nelly © 2017 Glass Half Delicious (glasshalfdelicious.tumblr.com)
Two more resident beauties of the O.W.L. Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society.
Flinger (top) is a female roadside hawk who was kept illegally as a pet (no! no no no! bad people!) and arrived at the society extremely ill and malnourished. Sadly the long term effects of human contact and multiple health issues made her unreleasable, but thanks to O.W.L. she has had a safe home and proper care for twenty years and counting.
Nelly (bottom) is a female peregrine falcon who was discovered in a chicken coop with irreparable corneal damage to her left eye. Due to the severity of her injury, she too has found a forever home with O.W.L.

Sonsie © 2017 Glass Half Delicious (glasshalfdelicious.tumblr.com)
Portrait series of O.W.L. Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society’s magnificent permanent resident Sonsie, a male bald eagle. Sonsie was rescued at only a few weeks old in 2002 when a couple found him being attacked by crows. Unfortunately under their care he became too accustomed to being fed by humans and was subsequently unable to be safely released back into the wild.
